Darius Burst trailer is explosive

The trailer for Darius Burst seems to hit the highlights of the Darius experience -- namely, spaceships and giant robot versions of aquatic creatures. And it looks hot. Hot enough to send us back through the series in anticipation of the December 24 Japanese release, and for us to send our sincerest wishes to Taito parent company Square Enix. Sell this to us!

Hope this comes to Europe too! Also would love to see more of this genre. R-Type, Tiger Heli, Hellfire, Raiden etc. Love them!

I'm all over this. Gimme! There aren't enough 3D poly/2D plane shmups anymore, and if for some reason I'm missing out on some, someone PLEASE tell me, the last good one I got was RType Final.

There's the R-Type Dimensions for XBLA, not sure if it's on PSN as well. It's pretty solid, R-Type 1 and 2 in both old school graphics version and polygon reskin.

Oh man, I played darius twin on the SNES for years when i was younger. I'm glad to see a revival. I hope it's a little less hard to beat now though. over about 4 years I never once beat darius twin. Only snes game i never beat (that I owned). ahh, the nostalgia. Stupid fish shaped alien ships.

Why cant these types of games just be PSN games so they can be played on both psp AND ps3? Huge fan of shmups but playing them on a handheld is shortchanging the games.

I like some of the Darius games, but I don't think I've ever played a bad one - usually if they're not great they're still playable, but just bland. Oh, and that tune is tasty.

The official website for the game: www.taito.co.jp/csm/dariusburst/ . Interesting tidbit from the main page: the download version of the game will be 4000 yen, compared to the 5040 yen for the UMD release (but 4284 yen at Amazon.co.jp). Also, the site notes that you can counter an enemy Burst attack with a well-timed Burst Counter, which sounds pretty much like a return of the beam dueling from G-Darius. Found this TGS trailer as well: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bVK0ibrMj8 . It has a lot of Japanese text, though, basically a short timeline of the series saga.
Can't wait!
