The confusion over whether or not BioWare's second space opera, Mass Effect 2, is coming to the PlayStation 3 has been a fiasco of epic proportions. We've heard plenty of rumor and speculation supporting both sides of the heated debate, but as the game's release draws nearer, more savory indications of the game's possible Sony-bound trajectory have surfaced -- namely, a listing on the EA Russia site for a PS3 version of the upcoming RPG.
Gaming news site Just Push Start also noticed the PS3 installment on the site of an Australian game retailer called, appropriately, GAME. We put more stock in the EA Russia listing, though we suppose the publishing giant is no stranger to sending mixed signals when speaking about the exclusivity of the Mass Effect series. We've contacted EA and BioWare to find out what the deal is.
Update: As some of you already guessed, the "deal" is that the EA Russia listing was, in fact, erroneous. The PS3 listing for Mass Effect 2 (and Left 4 Dead 2, which we didn't notice) has been removed from the site.

I agree, I dont think that is correct...historically Russian websites have been notoriously ill-informed, and the last paragraph actually states that only the PC and Xbox 360 versions will be released in the beginning of 2010, it states nothing about PS3. Only the listing on the side states it will be on the PS3 platform.

There has to be exclusive games to a console to distinguish one from the other. It would be great if one console had every single game ever made, closest to that is the PC. Depends on the system you own, if I had a PS3, I would want ME to come to the PS3, hell, I'd want all 360 games to come to the PS3.

If anything it will be a timed exclusivity window. Thats if it comes at all but if you look at all the stuff thats been said it seems that it's possible it eventually comes to the PS3. As I remember Dragon Age Origins was once talked about being 360 exclusive as well ... who knows.

The PS3 already has plenty of exclusives the 360 will never get. But I understand the mentality that you want "your" system to get as many of the games as possible. I'd like all these 360/PS3 games to come to the PC, why don't I just buy the consoles and be done with it?
Where is the line where you want every game to be on the 360/PS3 and so what distinguishes one system from another?

No one is debating whether or not exclusives happen and are necessary. I'm just saying I could see this happening as a timed exclusive if it happens at all. It doesn't mean I want it to happen or whatever ...

I'm with Ballistic on this one. All I care about is this game makes it to the PC where it belongs. Slow elevator's in space be damned. I want my elevators to be the next best thing to instant teleporters in space!
Not to mention higher resolution, better aa, better af and better lightning but whose counting those pesky pc perks?

Perhaps it's just a clever scheme on EA's behalf, to grab some more cash of a terrified Microsoft.
It's perfect really, in the end they can just blame it on the Russians. Next time who gets the blame... EA Mongolia perhaps?

It's a sequel to a heavily story based RPG...
Sending the sequel to a platform that does not have the prequel is a little strange unless they're adding a little "catch up" sequence to the game.
But hey, Mass Effect is the best, everyone should play it.

Well, I thought Mass Effect was very enjoyable, but it felt like the dialogue-heavy sections of KOTOR to me. I will admit, though, that my opinion doesn't count for as much since I watched my roommate play it and then didn't have the desire to play through it by myself after watching it once.
Great game to watch while you're "studying" though - all those elevators make for a great place to get some work done.
I also want to throw in my opinion that Mass Effect isn't coming to PS3, but it'd be gravy if it did. I don't have a 360 available anymore since that roommate moved out, but I'd like a shot at ME2.

Exactly what I was thinking.
1) I want more people to enjoy really good games, so Mass Effect going everywhere is a GOOD thing.
2) It wouldn't make sense for Mass Effect 2 to go to the PS3 unless the first installment happened to be released for the PS3 simultaneously. (Which it could be?)

i doubt its coming, prob a typo but if it did i would expect Mass Effect to be released for the PS3 in early 2010 then they release Mass Effect 2 after summer, agian i'm thinking its more of a typo.
But agreed, i got this game for PC and i would have loved a console version to play in my room, everyone should play this.

The Game listing is EXTREMELY credible, its a close relation of the largest UK retailer.
The fact several sources have popped up the same title, and it's been rumoured for a very long time to to be coming to PS3, I think this pretty much seals it for me.
Lets hope it comes with ME1 (obviously without the crippling framerate, screen tearing and abysmal load times of the 360 version)...

Crippling? I mean sure it had some framerate problems but it was nowhere near unbearable.

I don't think I saw any screen tearing or framerate issues, just the occasional texture pop. If it's such an issue, meebe try disabling the Film Grain setting? Load times are near non-existant when you install it to the HDD.

I work in retail in Aus, and my job is to update releases dates and information for our companies web site. We have received no such information from EA! Now that could mean an exclusive deal with Game, but that's highly for one consoles version of a standard edition!
As for credibility, Game are notorious for getting shit like this WRONG!
Extremely credible indeed! Unlike your comments hey eeeeeeeeeeefe?

Wouldn't make much sense without 1 going too. I'll stick with the 360 version if it is just because...well, all my multiplatform choices are 360. Plus, knowing EA it will be a shoddy port.

My 360 can handle everything too, just install everything. But yeah, better achievement system, better online, better user interface, better friend communication and party system. It's a no brainer why me and most people go 360 for multiplatform games.

I think he means the 360 is less likely to die if you play less games on it, as opposed to you thinking he means the disc drive can't take the abuse of reading so many discs(I think that's what you're thinking since you're talking about installing games, but I'm not sure lol. I could be misunderstanding you, and if so, I apologize).
It doesn't really matter though since you can get your 360 replaced for free anyway, but dieing less often is more convenient at least.

I used to play all the multi games on my 360 as well, but I had it replaced once and my second is a ticking bomb with a tenancy to freeze on everything. I also constantly get this wonderful error: "Please insert this disc into an XBOX 360."
I now only play exclusives on my 360, and leave all of the rest for my PS3.
