Japanese hardware sales, Sept. 28 - Oct. 4: Orwellian edition

Perhaps the other consoles could have experienced similar boosts with the same treatment. We bet the Doubleplusgood Xbox 360 would garner a huge sales increase, as would the Goodplayful PS3. Though nothing can be done for the Doubleoldful PS2, we're afraid. It's about time Big Brother sent it to the Ministry of Love to be bathed in his ever-shining Tripleplusgood light. Or fed to rats. One of the two.

The PS3 still beating the Wii, the PSP is selling good but i wonder what the Go sales look like and the 360... um...well, maybe Griff should start another "Underdog" article lol.
The PS2 will never die BTW

The PS2 has become like a cockroach with Wolverine's healing factor.

Long live PS2
makimak22 @ Oct 11th 2009 10:18PM
Actually, the % of PSP Go sold in Japan is ZERO, because it is not yet available.
The Japanese won't get the PSP Go until Nov.1
Jocaju @ Oct 11th 2009 10:25PM
@Makimak22
Exactly, Joystiq made a mistake. Like you said, the PSP got better sales not because of the Go, but because the PSP 3000 got a price cut.
JoeTheBlow @ Oct 12th 2009 5:28AM
Sony will NEVER released Go numbers. Its incredibly convienent for them to combine it and boost the whole PSP image.
In other news, even with a new Wii Fit the Wii still falls behind the PS3?!
Thats got to making Nintendo go "WTF Japan!?..... Just WTF!"
makimak22 @ Oct 11th 2009 10:08PM
Dear Joystiq,
Just a small nugget of fact....
PSP Go has not yet been launched in Japan. Their official date is Nov.1.
The PSP sales spike is probably due to the drop in price of the PSP-3000 model (19800 Yen to 16800 Yen).
Please get you facts straight.
Chromekreeper @ Oct 11th 2009 10:25PM
BAM!!!
but you are saying that joystiq is imperfect so
BOO!!!
Wes @ Oct 12th 2009 3:24AM
I know you were /scarcasiming but Joystiq is imperfect. Haven't you ever tried to use the reply system on comments? Broken for at least 2 years and counting. The developer listed on their staff must be the worse coder ever. Even with zero knowledge after 2 years he should have learned enough coding if he spent 30 minutes a day to be able to fix that issue.
Silicon Siren @ Oct 12th 2009 8:57AM
@Wes
Any self respecting member who's been here more than a week knows how to work the comment system. If you post a comment and then later want to reply you must hit the reply button twice, if you don't post a comment then you only need to hit the reply button once.
Newbies' minds = blow.

workaround discovered doesnt equal fixed problem.
CheeziePotato (PSN: talic10 | XBL: InfiniteMovie) @ Oct 11th 2009 10:14PM
PSP and Wii are doing much better this week. Maybe some big PSP or Wii games came out in Japan.
Jocaju @ Oct 11th 2009 10:26PM
Both got a price cut.
Mr Khan @ Oct 11th 2009 10:29PM
If you break down Wii Fit Plus sales, upwards of 90% of them come from the software standalone, which indicates that there are either severely misinformed consumers, or it isn't selling hardware. It's all about the price-cut.
Sly @ Oct 11th 2009 10:32PM
"which indicates that there are either severely misinformed consumers"
that describes it perfectly. most wii owners fit in that category.
CheeziePotato (PSN: talic10 | XBL: InfiniteMovie) @ Oct 11th 2009 10:43PM
@Sly
Except me. I like the Wii, but there are no good games right now. I want to get NSMB Wii, but probably not, because it's going to be too easy considering the DS was easy, this looks the same. Nintendo, when the fuck are mah new Zelda and Metroid games coming out, bitch?
Alton Brown [ XBL: LordToastington] @ Oct 11th 2009 11:04PM
Actually, NSMB Wii looks to be a good deal harder than the DS version, if previews are any indication.

Yeah I hope it is.
Sly @ Oct 12th 2009 12:03AM
@Potato
i said *most* didn't i? not all. i'm pretty sure all the wii owners who come here are informed well enough.
CheeziePotato (PSN: talic10 | XBL: InfiniteMovie) @ Oct 12th 2009 12:26AM
My bad Sly I must have accidentally misread your comment. Yeah it is true that most Wii owners are clueless when it comes to games. That's why video game companies make shovelware.
Mr Khan @ Oct 12th 2009 9:49AM
It was a facetious comment, in the sense that yes, there are a good number of uninformed Wii owners (though that's true for electronics consumers in general), but i'm saying 90% of these people couldn't possibly have thought they could just buy the standalone software and expect to play it. Pretty sure Nintendo would make it painfully clear on the box.

Reuben @ Oct 11th 2009 11:23PM
Lame ending? I think not! I felt that it could have ended no other way.
Dr. Bradwart [100% Reagan Conservative!] @ Oct 11th 2009 11:35PM
Try reading Atlas Shrugged now. Much better than 1984 (and much more applicable to today's world) IMO.

Ayn Rand is a bitch.
rooshma @ Oct 12th 2009 12:51AM
I think that might be the point. It'd kind of lessen the impact of a tyrannical, all-seeing, oppressive government if it could be beaten by a thirty-nine year old with an ulcer on his ankle and his hoe.
N3M3515 @ Oct 12th 2009 1:05AM
The ending was perfectly appropriate. There's no happy endings BS in that world.
Chromekreeper @ Oct 12th 2009 2:07AM
i thought the ending was quite shallow and pedantic
TC @ Oct 12th 2009 5:17AM
I'll spoil the ending for all of you: 1985
Sly @ Oct 11th 2009 10:20PM
1984 reference FTW
rooshma @ Oct 12th 2009 1:19AM
1984: Makes you intelligent.
Mr Khan @ Oct 11th 2009 10:32PM
Rather wild that PS3 still outsells Wii in the week of it's price-cut, though i think it's a possibility that Tales of Vesperia PS3 is helping to arrest the fall from their high.
Either way, things are set up to be quite epic, though neither system is getting really heavy system sellers until starting in November (though i'm unaware of Tekken 6's release date)
makimak22 @ Oct 12th 2009 5:16AM
Uncharted 2 is coming out this week....
makimak22 @ Oct 12th 2009 5:19AM
Tekken 6 is supposed to be end of October (29th).
