Figured Joystiq would be all over this. Took longer than I thought though.

At least they try to sound like they're being impartial. Because it's 'for the readers', I'm sure. Were the tides turned, and the 360 version inferior, we wouldn't hear a word of it.

Like others have said, it comes down to where development started... and, in this case, it was with the 360, which led to the way the game looks on the PS3. Had it started development with the PS3 in mind, it more than likely would've turned out drastically better, as we've seen what can be done with MGS4, KZ2, GoWIII and even Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, as it looks better on the PS3 than it does the 360.

The same can be said about GTAIV, DMC4 and others. Had they began development on the PS3 and then got ported over, they would've looked better on the PS3... then again, had they stayed PS3 exclusive, they more than likely would've looked better still, plus had more content.

At any rate, I rarely take differences in graphics into account unless its something really drastic... like NGII versus Sigma 2, for example. The only thing I'm taking into account with this game is I'm more comfortable with a Dual Shock 3 in my hands when it comes to action games - besides only owning a PS3 and Wii, of course. >.>

the 360 version is slightly better, which doesn't say much cuz they both look like shit to me...graphically at least....maybe I'm just spoiled by games like UC2, Killzone, Batman AA etc....something about this game just looks like it should've been released in 2006/2007.

You do bring up a good point. After playing it a few times the visuals reminded me too much of DMC4, which while good looking for its time, is not up to par with whats coming out now.

The difference has clearly been way over-exaggerated by the game media. Yes, the PS3 version isn't quite as nice looking as the X360 version, but the difference is small enough that I can't imagine giving two shits or a fuck when it finally comes out.

@ general audiences everywhere

Just to be clear It's cheaper to develop for the 360 for two major reasons,

First Microsoft throws money around like its cat shit, They can easily afford to go all willy-nilly with there budget something that Sony doesn't have the luxury of.

Second, the xbox 360 is just a windows pc, period Nvidia graphics card Intel processor, I bought an original xbox dev kit off of CL and it was literally a giant xbox shaped pc, the sames pretty much true for the 360. You don't need to learn anything new to develop for the 360 if you code for windows.

Saying that a game ported to a ps3 from an xbox should look better if the hard ware was really good, is the equivalent of expecting that WINE would run wow just as well as windows does on the same machine. It's naive.

I dont one iota over the differences.

What does bother me, is that devs these days are lazy bastards, and instead of putting in the hours, and actually learning how to control the architecture of the Ps3, and begin coding on that, and then porting to the 360, making life so much easier for themselves in the long run.

But.... nooo...they wanna do it quick-smart, and code on the pc, for the 360, and port the inferiour version to the PS3 and be done with it.

But, to top it all off (dev lazyness or not) GameTrailers are paid for media...... paid for by the publishers... I dont trust anything they say/do/show us at all.

Never have, never will. Much like IGN, they seem to biased towards people with large cheque books.

Considering Ghost busters and many previous multi console games I think it was quite obvious that the ps3 version of such a stunning graphical video game would have inferior graphics. The ps3 simply cannot handle that many textures at once due to the systems lack of ram. God forbid they ever had ported last remnant to ps3... the game ran horrible as it is on 360... if that made it to ps3 we would be seeing lag after every footstep.... geeze

My God,

Why do people believe in these conspiracies?

GT is one of the more heavily media-driven sites. Teey do probably 5 times the video that most other major video publications do. They're *bound* to mess up a few times. Sh*t happens. Move on. Like, what does GT get out of this "conspiracy"? I swear, a lot of video game fans just piss me the fuck off.

My favourite thing about these PS3 vs. XBOX 360 posts, is that everyone quickly jumps in and says "I'm not a fanboy, but...", or "I own both/all three systems, but...", as though to try and convince the rest of us they are unbiased, before they launch into a slavish defense of THEIR system.

Another interesting development, to me anyway, is how PS3 fanboys have developed this very Republican-esque need to accuse mnost video game media of being "anti-PS3" - which is about as childish as it gets, and is about as legitimate as accusing the mainstream media of having a liberal bias.

I'm pretty sure that it's the Republican Party that always insinuates really stupid things as well as pull of some really stupid and controversial stunts. While Sony has done some really stupid advertising moves before, none of its stunts have been as disgusting nor as hostile/offensive as what Microsoft has done.

Remember that BBC WatchDog report with the self-professed Xbox fan and Microsoft reporter called Iain Lee? Yeah, I'd like to see you argue that he wasn't biased with his reporting even if he did it as objectively as he could. Seriously, it's hard to argue against guilt-by-association when the guy himself works for MSN.

These threads always go the same way.

I chose the Xbox 360 because it had the most games that I personally wanted to play. Friends of mine chose the PS3 because it had the most games that they personally wanted to play.

At the end of the day, that's really all that matters. While I would certainly like my chosen platform to be more popular if it means more games are made for it, it really doesn't matter to me that the graphics are slightly different on another system.

And it really is slightly. Other than a tiny handful of shocking examples, most cross-platform games are similar enough that it doesn't matter which you buy. It's why DLC and add-ons are becoming more of a deciding factor - content is the only real way to differentiate between the two.

Yeah, I don’t see the difference, except for the brightness. PS3 video captures from GT are always brighter. Even if they’re right, that the PS3 output signal is brighter, in the end it all depends then on your TV settings doesn’t it.

background texture looks consistantly higher on 360 but how can you be certain when the video itself is a pile of poo to look at. It could have been pre-rendered ray tracing compiled on a super computer and sped up to 60 fps and it would still look bad on GT.

It's good thing that the game looks like a Devil May Cry wannabe geared at adolescent boys and that I have zero interest in it.

The 360 version does look better... by better I mean darker. It looks like there is a light haze over the ps3 version. While creating the version, I would think they would look at the two and try to improve the one that didn't look as good. I generally do not buy ps3 games at full price that aren't made to look as good as the 360 version. I can wait for this to drop down to 20 bucks on gamefly... which should be 5 months after it comes out.

With the rare exception, the difference has always been negligible. A difference? Yes. A deal breaker? No, not from my experience. What I usually do is if it's multi-platform, I get it on 360. I think the PS3 really shines when it's a console exclusive game i.e., Heavenly Sword MGS4 and the like.

It's weird that they would lead on the 360 when it's coming out in Japan first, where the PS3 is muuuch more popular. Even in America, I wouldn't be surprised if, say, DMC4 sold comparably well on the PS3 despite a smaller install base, though I must admit I'm far too lazy and don't care enough to look up the actual numbers.

Either way, it mostly just looks less contrast-y on the PS3 and that can be compensated for in settings.

@sk8monroe:
You obviously weren't being very clear about multi-platform 3rd parties. So why did I perceive you to be an ass? Because you asked for a list of 3rd parties who worked with Sony, I gave you that list, and you merely reaffirmed your own convictions instead of specifying that you wanted a more specific list, one that does multi-platform games.

-------

"it has been developers that have made games exclusively for the sony ps3 console. you even made a list that supported that fact. i dont see any developers that make a 360 game on there."

Ninja Theory used to be known as Just Add Monsters and made Kung Fu Chaos for the Xbox back in 2003. By the way, their next title is Enslaved and it's slated for BOTH the PS3 and the 360.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninja_Theory

Remember Okami for the Wii? Yeah. That was done by Ready At Dawn, which is clearly on that list. Granted, they just announced that they've made a new engine for their multi-platform development so it remains to be seen how that goes.

Oh yeah, remember Indigo Prophecy? That was made by Quantic Dream for the PC, PS2, and Xbox. You can even find it on the "Games On Demand" section for the 360.

And seriously, you completely discounted From Software. What the hell?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/From_Software#Xbox_360

----------

In terms of recent multi-platform games, there's Arkham Asylum (Rock Steady), Wolverine (Raven Software), BlazBlue (Arc System Works), Marvel vs Capcom 2 (Capcom), Resident Evil 5 (Capcom), SF4 (Capcom), and several more that I cannot remember off the top of my head.

In terms of third party developers that do a lot of multi-platform:
-From Software (Armored Core 4 + For Answer, Demon's Souls)
-Compile Heart (Agarest Wars, Cross Edge)
-Capcom (in general)
-Sega (in general)
-PopCap
-The Trine developer
-DICE (Battlefield series)
-Ubisoft (HAWX)
-Visceral Games (Dead Space)

Recently, the differences between the two platforms haven't been that big at all. Seriously man, go shoot yourself.

I've played both the PS3 and XBOX demos and the only major difference is the texture quality. Unfortunately, the textures on the PS3 is not nearly as sharp as the ones on the 360.

Other things I've noticed, is that reflective textures are much more vibrant on the 360. BUT, surface shadows were much more soft on the PS3; 360 shadows looked all jagged.

That's about it. Things you won't really notice when pulling off a torture attack while trying to fend off an army of angels.
