Same here. The more I see of this game, the better I feel about that decision.

You answered your own question. A lot of people (including me) liked Mass Effect because it wasn't like Baldur's Gate. I can't stand that old combat system where you just click and just watch your guy slash while a dice roll determines your hit and damage.
It's a similar answer to the people who say they don't understand why they like GTA 3 through 4 instead of 1 & 2. It evolved, and in a positive way.

yeah it's been a while since i played a good D&D western style rpg, mostly cause every damn pc rpg is an mmo now, cause obviously we can all play 20+ pay for play games, and none of us enjoy a good single player yarn anymore. i really hope this lives up to my expectations though, which are baulder's gate 2 high. ie, the action looks fantastic, but will the storyline, character interactions and development be able to keep up, is it a deep game, or just some spectacular blood and gore.

@ Tmac,
I see so its gameplay fits you better. I guess i am RPG kinda person at heart what i saw in Mass effect was better combat system but it weakened everthing like about bioware game mainly story, side characters, and side quests.

Not really Gobo, the horrendous combat system ruined it for me. Just like it did with Planescape, Baldur's Gate, and Fallout 1 & 2. I like to control my character, and when I hit a headshot, I don't want a magic dice roll telling me I didn't.
That's 1 reason why I'm excited for Borderlands (not really a normal RPG, I know), because a hit depends on your actual ability to aim a weapon and shoot. I think the amount of damage you do is controlled by a roll, which I'm pretty ok with, as long as my ability to hit is based on my skill.

Mass Effect needed only three things:
1. Fix the texture pop-in and other engine problems.
2. Get rid of the Mako.
5 (three, sir) 3. No more elevators.
That would have made it perfect.

It got delayed what ... 2 weeks past the 360 version? It's a curious delay indeed but should dissuade you from buying the game.

You guys are nuts, I've been waiting for a game like this for years. The last good old PC style RPGs I remember playing are Baldurs Gate 2 and Fallout 2.
Also, this trailer was leaked some time ago, though EA was rather militant in getting people to remove it from their sites (saw it getting removed on youtube four times

As far as I can tell the combat has evolved quite a bit from the BG2 days (it's real time for starters), and since Bioware has proven in the past that they're capable of crafting a good RPG experience I think this game will turn out quite well. Don't really get why people are being so negative about it.
That being said, I really need to lower my expectations since I'm way to hyped up over finally getting my hands on some of that old school RPG gaming o_O

Demon's Souls is cooler.

Serious questions (not criticism):
1) How much would a trailer like this cost?
2) How much time would it require to put together 8 minute segments as a web broadcast?
3) How much would Bioware charge for each episode?
4) Would the writing be acceptable, and would they use the folks who wrote the script for the video game for the show?

Ugh. This is the Baldur's Gate 2 spiritual successor we've been waiting for? It's just ham fistedly bad writing, even worse coive acting, and the whole thing is covered by the most stupifying and immature levels of blood and titties they could ram in.
So that's one lost sale.

Uhh... Baldur's Gate's writing is better in your memory because it was so long ago. You just have fond memories of that game and it blurs your memories of how good the writing was. VA's were bad too.
"BUTT KICKING FOR GOODNESS!"
It's kind of how everyone says the new star wars acting/writing was horrible. Go back and watch the originals without bias, the dialog and acting were pretty B material. Don't get me wrong, I love them, but they definitely aren't Oscar material.

yes she did, and she and the red head with bow and arroes are your two possible female love interests in the game, so ask yourself which chick would you want you character to nail, the chick that turns into a giant spider or the chick with the bow and arrows?, personally i'll go with the red head just cause i am deathly afraid of spiders!

I'm considering trading in Fifa 09 (which I don't really play anymore) and Far Cry 2 (which is just plain boring) for this game.

Looks great - gettin' me even more excited for the release next month! Nice to see magic used to this extent in the trailer.
Re: Demon's Souls - looks great (really scary too), but really, it's more of an action/Diablo game than an RPG. I prefer a game like Dragon Age where I can control a party of adventurers, the strategy in that setup is of way more interest to me. Dragon Age appears to have more story and actual role-playing than Demon's Souls (sorry, simply levelling up a character does not a role-playing game make).
Apples and Oranges and I know my preference!

Everyone is basing their assumptions about a game I've yet to see ANY gameplay on.
If you're going to base your assumptions on anything, base them on the fact this is the same company that made Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire and Mass Effect: 3 of the BEST non-JRPG's I've ever played during my lifetime.
If you're saying you're going to pass on this game, then you're saying you don't like fantasy games because you sure as helll have no clue what the game is like, do you?
