Interesting comments but in a way I agree with Reggie. Who is this system geared towards? The hardcore gamer maybe but to be honest hardcore gamers are well knowledge enough to know what are the pros and cons to this device.

The new gamers in the market are not going to jump on this so much only for the simple fact of the starting price tag. Its hard to buy one when you are at the store and the PSPGo is right next to a PS3 unit and you can visibly see the price difference.

Second alot of retailers are not pushing this device as much. If anything the few stores I have been to are pushing more the PSP 3000s rather than the PSPGos.

Sony has a tough road ahead of them.

Please can I have Scribblenauts on iPhone? Or on DS but for cheaper? Now that I have my iPhone I find it very difficult to spend $30 on portable games.

If that's the worst game you've ever played, then I don't think you've been playing games for very long.

Just saying.

So, basically I get a device that has 16GB of memory built in, but no UMD, so my games are worthless. But I can do the same on my Slim. CR-5400 + 2 8GB MicroSD cards gives me the 16GB, and for less than 50 dollars.

Someone explain to me the pricing on this again? It's not a terrible idea, but it would have to be CHEAPER than the existing systems to even be remotely of interest. As someone already stated, something coming in around the $99 mark might do well, and would have been smart for Sony, because the ensuing digital downloads could help them recoup some of those losses.

Reggie's got this one right. It's aimed at people who either have to have the sleekest looking tech, or those that just don't know any better. That's probably not a good business model. Not saying that Reggie's always right, though (please don't come kill me now!).

No, I've been playing games for a while. Scribblenauts is a great idea and all, but it's just that :/ I don't want to drone on and on about the controls again, but come on, they're just horrible. And the difficulty level is ridiculous. I got to the beginning of World 4 (took me 2 weeks) and just gave up...

I own a Go, I disagree for the most part.
I just don't understand why Sony wouldn't put G wireless in the Go.
The Go isn't fail, its just not for most people in the world.

No you are not. I bought one as well *serious movie narrirator voice* and this is my story.

I bought a launch PSP back when they forced you to buy it bundled. So I got stuck with about 5 games I didn't really want. So I never really got into the PSP (and it kind of made me hate UMDs). I play it usually when new features came out. When the PSN network sold PS1 games, I downloaded them to my PSP from my PS3 and had alittle fun there.

Long story short; I hate my bundled PSP games so much that I traded them in (along with all my old ps2/gamecube games sans MGS series that is) and with the store credit I bought a GO. Buying the GO felt like I kicked those stupid bundled UMD's in the face and it really did make me feel better (as wierd as that may sound)

Also, I basically bought it for MGS peacewalker.

"The Go isn't fail, its just not for most people in the world"

That's the marketing definition of fail right there, especially with a device that IS for plenty more people in the world (The PSP-3000) right next to it in the shops :P

Everyone is pretty much right about the various reason to get (or not to get) a GO. The same goes for the DSi though for the most part. Even though they added functionality (2 cameras [wtf? why 2?]), it's still pretty much the same DS. The same COULD be said about the Wii if it wasn't for the Wiimote... And that they duct taped two GCN together.

@Mr Khan
Those non gaming "games" have been around for a long time with the DS. In fact that was the reason for a lot of their early success. There were Japanese kanji trainers back when the iPhone was nothing more than rumors.

@Dummy I think you raise valid points, but, as aggie stated, no one is going to buy an iPod touch/iPhone for the express purpose of playing games. Will many of them play games? Probably, but that demographic is very different from the traditional DS/PSP demographic. Will there be some crossover? Of course. But as a developer, I would want to spend the bulk of their time, money and energy on the device that people bought to play games on, not the one that lists games as an extra feature.

What the fuck is Reggie talking about?
Scribblenauts could've been made in flash for PCs, just substitute d-pad and stylus with keyboard and mouse.

As a matter of fact it would've been BETTER on PC because of larger screens, typing with a keyboard, higher-res graphics, and updates to add words and levels.

The Go is a waste of time and resources on the part of Sony. Sure it might just be an "experiment" but given the current economic climate they don't have the luxury of "experimenting."

It doesn't matter what you think of Reggie, because he is completely right about this. "What's in it for me?" That's absolutely right, nothing. It's just a lame attempt on the part of Sony to cut out the second-hand games market and "lease" games to you. You can't trade them in, and you don't own them. This is all done for Sony's benefit, not the customer's, whether you already own a PSP or not. It's a joke, but not one that customers are laughing at.

Sony needs to stop pissing away what little goodwill they have left and fruitless waste of resources and money, or it's gonna bite them in the ass down the road, and sooner than you might think.

Forget the PSP Go. Look at last week's sales figure in Japan for the (reduced price) PSP-3000. It is now the same price as the DS Lite (16800Yen) and is threatening to overtake the (more expensive) DSi. Not worrying....

....maybe this Nintendo guy's real worry should be the rampant piracy of DS and Wii games. But hey, the hardware is selling well, stuff the 3rd party software developers!

The real test of consumers willingness to buy these is when they start doing the DSi/PSPgo exclusive system seller/AAA titles from the big names Rockstar, Square-Enix, Konami etc...

But I noticed they're being very slow to try this out even though they said they'd eventually would.

My problem with the PSP Go is, how to get UMD games I already own onto the system? I don't understand how that's done. You download them via the Playstation Store, which is okay for buying new games, but what about games we already own on the UMD format? I read on Wikipedia that it's impossible to do that and that we'd have to re-buy the games again if we want them on the PSP Go.

And don't get me started about the battery. You can't remove it. Re-chargeable devices slowly lose their battery capacity the more they're charged. My Nintendo DS (a Phat, the one that came with the Metroid Prime Hunters First Hunt demo, just so you can guestimate how often I've had to recharge it over the years) only lasts 3 or 4 hours on it's battery, when it used to last 8 when I first got it. Soon I'll need to order a new battery. Now, what happens if the PSP Go's battery capacity slowly dwindles? Send it in to a repair center to have it's battery replaced and risk having the PSP Go lost or stolen or damaged on the way?

With these issues in mind, I certainly agree with Reggie, "Who's it for? What's in it for me?"

I'll stick with my PSP 3000, thanks. If Sony ever hopes to crush Nintendo's handheld devision with their own, they better not ever consider scrapping the UMD-based system, or the people who have been supporting Sony since the PSX days will suddenly stop.

Well, I see what Reggie is getting at. But I'd rather have the newest version of the SAME platform (keyword) be completely cross compatible and optional so I do not have to buy the same hardware twice. Simply put, I don't need to ditch my 2000 to play everything the PSP has to offer. I cannot say the same for my DS Lite.

Gameboy has baby games and that is perfect for Nintendo's targets audience. Parents can rest knowing that their kids are being babysat by that thing. On the other hand, psp and pspgo will carry ass kicking games. No pun intended.
And look at the gameboy. It looks cheap.Blocky, cheap, plasticky junk. And you think Nintendo doesn't have the money to make a sleek device? Yeah they do. LOADS. But hey, the gameboys looks kinda like some lego shit. Non threatening .

lol Reggie may talk like Nintendo isn't looking at the go, but truth is they as well as other game publisher want to see how the all digital psp does. The PSPgo isn't for everybody that's one of the reasons the 3000 is still on the market. Why is there so much for the device if you dont like it dont buy it the 3000 plays the same digital downloads as the go. Sony may have made some mistake with the go keeping the hardware the same older systems, but they are showing signs of what future psp may offer. Plus all this attention (negative/postive) sure has got people interested in the psp again ...... there sure are alot of new psp games being released too. I'm sure nintendo is taking notice.

Reggie is the gaming industry equivalent of George W. Bush, but he finally aid something that makes sense.

A non-hackable PSP with no UMD drive and download-only games that cost MORE than retail UMD discs(gotta kill off used game sales, eff the consumer and all that) is a complete waste.
