Xbox removes Nov. 17 release date for Twitter/Facebook from UK site
There are few things we hate bearing more than bad news, but, well, it's kind of our job. So, here we go: Hey Champ. Remember how excited you got when you heard the UK Xbox site had listed a release date for the 360 Fall Dashboard Update, which will bring Facebook, Twitter and a whole slew of other services to the platform? Yeah, November 17 -- that's the one! Well, it looks like Microsoft has decided to strip the site of its specificity. Now, it simply reads "service launches Autumn 2009," just like all the other regional Xbox sites.
Aww, come on, Sport. Dry those tear-flooded eyes. The update may still come on Nov. 17, but now it'll be a big surprise. Don't you love surprises? Well, here's one: You're adopted. Makes that whole "disappearing release date" thing seem pretty trivial, doesn't it?
Oh, man, you're really crying now. Fine, we'll contact Microsoft to see what's going on. Just ... just don't tell your mother about the whole "adopted" thing.

I'm not really that upset.
You know what I'd like to see? Make these clients optional, the way Home is an optional download. You can update the console, but have the option NOT to install Twitter and Co.
Please, Microsoft?
CouchPotato99 @ Oct 12th 2009 10:51AM
Why does everyone think these will be mandatory? I'm pretty sure that they will be optional downloads just like Netflix, 1 vs. 100, and the Photo Sharing Party app...
Alex @ Oct 12th 2009 11:37AM
I wish Avatars were optional.
I wish that we could design our own Themes, instead of downloading one that is almost certain to suck.
I preferred the 360 back when the was none of this 'Let's try to attract the Wii audience' business.
Dr. Bradwart [100% Reagan Conservative!] @ Oct 12th 2009 11:38AM
Amen.

Because everyone looks at the negatives before the positives. A few years ago I was passing out energy drinks. At the stand I placed out about 20 plastic cups lined up for anyone to grab. An hour into my shift this 500 lb fat ass rolled in on a scooter with a full bag of McDonalds in the trey asking if the drinks were free. I answered "yes". This tub-o-titty sat by me for the next 30 minutes stuffing his face with 5 double cheeseburgers, 2 big macs, 1 quarter pounder and 2 supersize fries then decided to drain it down with 3 energy drinks.
Midway through the last energy drink he asks me whats in the cup and I tell him "____ it's a energy drink". The guys eyes gets wide and he tells me he has high-blood pressure and out of nowhere the guy crashes to the ground and shaking uncontrollably. Eventually he stopped because he passed out and shit himself...
Now I lost the moral of the story... But it's in there somewhere...

That story was brutal.

Haha, internet superhero told couch potato the story of a fat man.

The Sky Player is meant to be coming to the UK before the end of October. They've been showing adverts for it and it was mentioned in the Sky Magazine. Facebook and Twitter might arrive with the Sky Player update.
ElWaster @ Oct 12th 2009 12:46PM
I hope so, i've seen these ad's too! The Sky player is what I'm really waiting for :)

If they do anything like AT&T with the MMS for iPhone and said "Summer 2009" and ended up being 4 days AFTER Summer was officially over then we can expect it around Christmas....
LegendaryRedass @ Oct 12th 2009 10:44AM
I think I'll manage to pull through, Joystiq. If any of you need a shoulder, I'm here for ya.
Dr. Bradwart [100% Reagan Conservative!] @ Oct 12th 2009 10:46AM
Sure. I'm positive I can sell that shoulder on the black market. *pulls out hack saw*
LegendaryRedass @ Oct 12th 2009 10:53AM
So long as I get a "cut". I've got a spare kidney too. Christmas is coming, I gotta plan ahead.
CheeziePotato [Has finally become a Super Saiyan] @ Oct 12th 2009 10:45AM
Microsoft, please make it possible to customize the Xbox Dashboard. I don't want to see your damn advertisements on the main menu of my console. I just want My Xbox, Friends, Netflix, and Game Marketplace tabs. That's all.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Oct 12th 2009 10:54AM
LMAO!!!
Good Luck with that...

But...but...how will people know how terrible I feel without the Facebook add-on??
I lovez me some Twitter, but has anyone else noticed just how much of a pity-party of Hypochondria Facebook has become lately?
"________ is sick."
"________ my neck hurts. Anybody got any meds?"
"________ Doesn't feel like going to work today!"
It just scares me that now this sort of twattery will now be available on the 360. Or...maybe I just need new FB friends who post more funny/cool stuff. Or maybe I just need to avoid Facebook.
What's that? "Go outside"?? Ha, good one.
Rever Zero @ Oct 12th 2009 11:40AM
Umm... You probably could have just read the subject line. Or was that too much work?
Hiroken @ Oct 12th 2009 12:41PM
Maybe all your friends are just whiny little bitches.
XBL: xGeneral DEATHx PSN: Deeth82 [Planeteer | Power of General Hostility and Angst] @ Oct 12th 2009 1:27PM
@ Reverend: Reading?? No one reads on the internets!!!!
@ Hiroken: Probably. *Hangs head in shame; begins search for new friends*
Hithere @ Oct 12th 2009 11:27AM
Ugh. Can you stop with the stilted jokes in these posts and just tell us what's happening? It would be nice to not have to skim through them for actual information for once, and this seems to be getting worse, not better. If I want comedy, I'll go elsewhere.
ybfelix @ Oct 12th 2009 11:30AM
Joystiq is first and foremost a comedic site then gaming news
Rever Zero @ Oct 12th 2009 11:47AM
Ack, my comment above was in response to Hithere's comment. Read the subject line, move on. It's that easy.
Hiroken @ Oct 12th 2009 12:44PM
You've got it backwards. If you just want news, you can go practically anywhere fucking else.
I come to Joystiq for writing like this.
XBL: xGeneral DEATHx PSN: Deeth82 [Planeteer | Power of General Hostility and Angst] @ Oct 12th 2009 1:30PM
Most of us do it for the lulz. You may leave now.

Is that how bad your reading comprehension is?
Smoke_me_a_Kipper @ Oct 12th 2009 11:45AM
So, outside certain countries you have to pay for Last.fm. How is that going to work for the Xbox version?
Smoke_me_a_Kipper @ Oct 12th 2009 11:47AM
Never mind found the article

XBL: xGeneral DEATHx PSN: Deeth82 [Planeteer | Power of General Hostility and Angst] @ Oct 12th 2009 1:34PM
LOL...nice.
Enzemo @ Oct 12th 2009 3:44PM
I still don't see the point of having Twitter like it is, why not make them pop up like notifications so you can play and get Twitter feeds at the same time?
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Oct 12th 2009 1:10PM
And who was dissopointed :)
