Assassin's Creed 2 producer sees franchise expanding beyond a trilogy, maybe into WWII
When asked whether or not the Assassin's Creed series would be getting a third installment, Assassin's Creed 2 producer Sébastien Puel thinks the answer almost goes without saying. "I'm often asked if we're doing a third game after ACII... I mean, we could do 35 of these," he (hopefully) exaggerates to Xbox World 360 in the mag's latest issue (via CVG). When the game's creative director told us the second game would be ending with a cliffhanger, we didn't know he meant we'd have to play 35 games to resolve it -- that's approximately 35,000 assassinated fools, by our estimations.
Explaining his hyperbole further, Puel admits that a female assassin isn't out of the question, even confirming "We've had discussions on that very topic." Still, the Ubisoft producer doesn't want to switch the protagonist's gender without a good reason. "World War II, the economies in England and France were run by women because the men were off fighting ... we don't want to just decide we want to change and have a female hero, as the first inspiration is always the time period." To read the full interview in its original context, pick up the latest issue of Xbox World 360 (if you're in the UK, that is).

If I remember (been awhile since I played AS1) a machine connects to long dormant dna thingies that access the memories of past incarnations of the person. If my memory holds true that does leave the possiblity of a woman.
Hyams @ Oct 13th 2009 9:15PM
Not past incarnation, ancestors.
At least, based on my understanding of the first few hours of the game. Perhaps there's a 'reincarnation' plot twist somewhere along the line.
mgsrocks1 @ Oct 13th 2009 9:28PM
No past ancestors not past incarnations. So basically Desmond is controlling past ancestors in dormant memories in his DNA to solve the mystery of the Assassins-Templars war.
PharaohSteve (XBL) @ Oct 13th 2009 9:06PM
Had no idea there were 1000 assassinations per game.
Hyams @ Oct 13th 2009 9:10PM
There are if you play like me. Killing random people is the funnest thing to do in the game.
Ben Gilbert @ Oct 14th 2009 7:21AM
Hyams response was more or less exactly what I would say.
RKN @ Oct 13th 2009 9:09PM
If gamers buy them, sequels will come.
solarshadows074 @ Oct 13th 2009 9:10PM
assassin's creed IV: modern warfare
216 @ Oct 13th 2009 9:16PM
u'd have to remove the Assassin's Creed part first
Sly @ Oct 13th 2009 9:16PM
i'd buy it.
Sora @ Oct 13th 2009 9:37PM
@216:No, you'd do that for the sixth game, which uses the same subtitle from the 4th game.
finnith @ Oct 13th 2009 11:04PM
Wouldn't that basically be Hitman?
TriviumSuffocationTheBlackDahliaMurderLambOfGod @ Oct 13th 2009 9:11PM
I'm not against more WWII if it's done in an interesting way. The Saboteur shows that you can bring something fresh to a worn out genre. I think, if done right, Assassin's Creed III could do well in the setting, as it's not the typical WWII title, which is an FPS.
macabrearts @ Oct 14th 2009 12:37AM
I'm in favor of a WWII, but let's have a female protagonist who walks around in her undies half the time and uses "eagle vision" to slow down time and become invincible.
Oh yeah- and let's make it terrible too.
Let's call it "Silk Assassin", no too corny, "Cotton Assassin?" nah, OH- I've got it! "Denim Assassin"
sony boy (6 years til sony man child!) @ Oct 13th 2009 9:11PM
why not the korean war???
willooi @ Oct 13th 2009 9:12PM
Maybe eventually we'll see an Assassins Creed: Corporate Warfare, where you are sent by, let's say, Google or Microsoft to sabotage enemy products and ideas. Come on now, parkour-ing up skyscrapers and assassinating corporate executives Sam Fisher-style would be awesome!! Oh.
Then the whole DNA virtual reality thing might actually make some sense.
GiggMan @ Oct 13th 2009 9:14PM
Nice Pic...
I would have changed the caption though. What badass says "i roll pretty deep"
Should have been something like:
"I'm rollin deep Bitches!"
*I understand though really*
Markez @ Oct 13th 2009 9:16PM
Maybe they can expand into labor disputes next! Teachers unions versus the government! Electrical workers local 205 refusal to wear well fitting pants! Woo hoo!
Hyams @ Oct 13th 2009 9:19PM
Should devs really boast about their plans to milk their franchises into dried-up husks of boredom?
Hyams @ Oct 13th 2009 9:22PM
Although I quite like the idea of an Assassin's Creed set in London, where you have to track down and assassinate five prostitutes.
'Assassin's Creed 29: Jack the Ripper' would sell loads.
Asmerom (PSN: neon6plz) (Steam: neon6669) @ Oct 14th 2009 11:32PM
I'd play that.
Special Agent Steve @ Oct 13th 2009 9:21PM

Sounds like Velvet Assassin done right.
Traceur_Ryuk [All Digital until December] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Oct 13th 2009 9:25PM
That would be a nice twist on WWII games, being an assassin instead of running and gunning.
Ark Angel @ Oct 13th 2009 9:39PM
what if.... one of his past ancestors was Sam Fisher
protofunc @ Oct 14th 2009 11:16AM
...or CHUCK NORRIS!
Mr.ESC @ Oct 13th 2009 9:41PM
I thought they were going to visit the Napoleonic wars before jumping straight to WWII.
Then again the animus is a powerful plot device that can eff all and jump to any period in history they want whenever they lack creativity.
rowd149 @ Oct 13th 2009 9:55PM
Why WWII? That's been done so much. Why not go with WWI? I honestly can't recall a game set in that time period.
Paul @ Oct 13th 2009 10:11PM
Red Baron anyone? :D
macabrearts @ Oct 14th 2009 12:39AM
I remember one (I just try not to)- Darkest of Days anyone? it's at least one mission.
Drew -- PS360: uphillbothways @ Oct 14th 2009 11:38AM
The Darkness? Kinda sorta during the second half of the game. If WWI was inhabited by demons 'n' shit.
coalman987 @ Oct 13th 2009 10:00PM
There is a lot of time to cover between AC2 and WWII, they should go for something in like the 1700s, or the 1800s, but I just can't think of what happened in those centuries????
Sly @ Oct 13th 2009 11:10PM
1700's - revolutionary war
1800's - civil war
GreywolfD35 @ Oct 13th 2009 10:14PM
Project Valkyrie anyone?
cylet @ Oct 13th 2009 10:33PM
why can't we ever have a complete story? i really think its pointless to sell half a game, it just makes you feel like you waited so long for an answer and in the end you feel stupid for eating up all of their BS.
Gibbeynator @ Oct 13th 2009 10:33PM
I would love it if the next game featured a mobster hitman in Depression-era New York.
WREturns @ Oct 13th 2009 10:46PM
Why isn't Ezio saying, "It's the network!"?
JCP @ Oct 13th 2009 10:52PM
As long as it doesnt get exploited with some sort of multiplayer, Im fine if they keep making it.
they need to do with the title what they did with splinter cell, get rid of the numbering and give it a sub-title (splinter cell: pandora tomorrow, splinter cell: chaos theory, splinter cell: conviction) I think that helps to make it feel a little fresher, BUT eventually, some franchises need to accept death :-\
Rawg @ Oct 13th 2009 11:00PM
When you are a terminator that drives a time travelling delorian and are sent to the past to fight criminals I'll buy this, until then I don't think I'll ever play this franchise again.
mars @ Oct 13th 2009 11:21PM
i'd love to see assassin's creed in a) the future (think blade-runner), b) the revolutionary war, c) the french revolution
LogicPlay @ Oct 14th 2009 1:04AM
*reads pic bubble*
I used to roll too...oh wait nevermind..
Gamer4Life @ Oct 14th 2009 1:29AM
I'm all for more Assassin's Creed games but not if they are based in WWII, I wont play them then.
Feedback @ Oct 14th 2009 6:00AM
I thought they said from the start it would be a Trilogy...
Faceman @ Oct 14th 2009 5:22PM
if they do a modern day assassin's creed, they can throw in some parkour.. not nearly enough of that in games yet,.
Matthew Nawrocki @ Oct 15th 2009 1:16PM
Hey I just noticed something funny about the picture... are those pro-lifers at the March for Life? That's odd...
