BioWare would 'love' to revisit Jade Empire (so would we)
Speaking to Stragety Informer, BioWare's Mike Laidlaw had some simultaneously pleasing and disappointing news for Jade Empire fans. When asked directly when we would see a sequel to the Asian fantasy RPG, Laidlaw opted for the always handy -- and always frustrating -- PR Jedi mind trick, stating that BioWare hasn't made any announcements regarding Jade Empire 2. On a brighter note, he added that the game is a "staff favorite," saying, "We'd love to revisit it at some point." He then quickly switched gears back to disappointment, noting that the company is currently focused on Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2.
Dear team BioWare, you are most assuredly not the only ones that would love to revisit Jade Empire. Grab a sticky note and write that down, tuck it under your pillow and think about it. Think hard. Thanks.

sweet! I loved the asian style but it felt kind of like a watered down KOTOR... I hope in the future they can make it at least as good as mass effect.
Hopefully no identical Chinese cave for every sidequest though?
gordo @ Oct 13th 2009 10:12PM
I hope its nothing like Mass Effect. I hope its like Jade Empire.
AoE @ Oct 13th 2009 10:27PM
I'll second hoping it's not like Mass Effect. Mass Effect was a big step down compared to Jade Empire.
SolidSnakeX @ Oct 14th 2009 4:01AM
Sad that video game companies today are slacking off.. Please make a Jade Empire 2 for if not this year 2010!!!!!!! I Predict that the Video Game Revolution will end in 2012...

Hey, BioWare. This is great and all, but could we get a Kotor III somewhere in these grand plans? Thanks.
BTW Uncharted 2 is awesome.
Einhanderkiller @ Oct 13th 2009 10:08PM
It's called The Old Republic.
Dr. Bradwart [100% Reagan Conservative!] @ Oct 13th 2009 10:09PM
No, it's not. A stupid MMO will never live up to what KotOR III could have been.
Mabui @ Oct 13th 2009 10:12PM
If KoTor 2 was rushed out the gate uncomplete - then Kotor 3 could achieve new levels of unfinishedness! Perhaps it is even ready right now!
jmood88 @ Oct 13th 2009 10:30PM
KOTOR 2 wasn't made by Bioware.
Anyway, I really hope they do make Jade Empire 2 sometime soon, it's one of my favorite games I've ever played.
Massmass @ Oct 13th 2009 11:19PM
Theny definitely need to revist Kotor. After taking a dump on 2 by giving it to the wretched Obsidian people and then making the MMO the series is in much need of a reboot.
Although, I can't say I'm interested in Jade Empire 2 unless they start to evolve on the formula they helped create/refine (more open story, character paths, open dialog, etc)
After: Kotor, Kotor 2, Jade Empire, Mass Effect, Fable, Oblivion and Fallout, etc (yes different people made these...) the formula is getting a little tiredsome and by today's standards not open or intelligent enough.
Still, a Jade Empire 2 that's much of the same wouldn't be the worse thing in the world.
Riley @ Oct 14th 2009 2:26AM
It wasn't Obsidian that fucked up 2, it was the fact that they had to rush it because LucasArts pushed the release 6 months ahead.
I think they did a fantastic job with the game, the only thing that kept it from being better than the first one was that it was unfinished.
Reader @ Oct 14th 2009 3:00AM
"No, it's not. A stupid MMO will never live up to what KotOR III could have been."
Unfortunately, Bioware says it is, so you're not gonna get a KotOR 3. Jade Empire was awesome.
Snowblind @ Oct 14th 2009 4:49AM
Too many people are bashing Old Republic because it's an MMO, despite the fact it seems to be very much KotOR 3. It's not trying to be a traditional MMO, and for the most part the story still seems to be single player.
You only team up with others at specific points, and even then I don't think it forces you to.
Let's at least wait for it to be released, before writting it off as untrue to the series.
Mabui @ Oct 13th 2009 10:10PM
Baldurs Gate 3.. pls.
ballistic3188 @ Oct 13th 2009 10:38PM
uh throne of bhaal ended the series. really there is nothing left to write about the character you ascended to god hood or are a human demigod. i think that kinda finishes at that point especially because of each charcter has a epilougue.
even then WOTC is will only allow 4th ed material so it won't be close to same system.
Blank-Mage @ Oct 13th 2009 11:07PM
God of War had no problems with that.
PCIV @ Oct 13th 2009 11:08PM
Explain God of War to me.
Blank-Mage @ Oct 13th 2009 11:15PM
Well, see, you're this dude. And you, um, kill stuff. With swords. On chains. Which are, for some reason, rubbery. You know what, forget about that. Not important. So, you're this dude, right, and you're killing stuff. Only, your teacher, who is a god, makes you kill your family by accident, and you really liked them, so you're pissed. Then you spend alot of time going places and violently killing things to get more things to violently kill with. You still with me? Okay, so now that you've got all these things that you kill with, the god dude stabs you to Hell. Only, you're SO good at killing you KILL YOUR WAY OUT. Then you get the BEST KILL-THING YET, and it makes you super-huge, and you kill the big scary man in a REALLY annoying battle. Then you get all God-like and everyone's happy. Except you. And the things you killed violently.
Blank-Mage @ Oct 13th 2009 11:23PM
Part 2.
So the other gods decide they don't like you, and you get stabbed again after you follow some really bad advice. So THEN you decide that your life sucks, and you decide to go back and make that not happen, via killing moar stuff. So, you kill your way back to life again, and THIS time you murder in the general direction of three chicks who mess with history. (Only one of them is hot, but you kill her anyway.) Then you kill history. Yeah, I'm not sure what to do with that either. So, you kill it dead, then you hop back in time and ALMOST kill the dude that killed you. Fortunately, Back to the Future rules apply, so nothing bad happens. Bad dude (who is your father, go figure,) gets away, and you ride on a giant (but NOT hot) chick in a war to end all wars. In a way, Part 3 will *Finish the Fight.* Oh, and you killed your friend, too. She was kinda hot. But green. And explodey.
Mabui @ Oct 13th 2009 11:23PM
See, it is totally possible to continue it - that said they should never make it into anything remotely that. I'll have to wait to see if dragon age (A) runs on my laptop (B) Is anywhere like Baldurs gate.
Also, I'd take a remake of Baldurs gate 1 & 2.
choffy21 @ Oct 13th 2009 10:12PM
The first was one of the better RPG's I've ever played. I thought the story (while predictable) was good, and the combat was fun. I'd much rather see this than KOTOR III (although I'm almost certain I'm in the small majority).
doc j @ Oct 13th 2009 10:20PM
I also really liked the game, but I think they needed to do more work on the combat system (which has been improved in their recent offerings). The game essential became "Turn into a giant jade demon and smash everything".
If you used that "style" (can't remember the nuances of the game at this point), the final battle against what's-his-name was shorter than the boss battle in Uncharted 1.
TriviumSuffocationTheBlackDahliaMurderLambOfGod @ Oct 13th 2009 10:19PM
There aren't many western RPG's that do the asian-style culture so well, but Bioware nailed it with Jade Empire. I know Jade Empire is usually the least liked Bioware RPG, but it's one of my favorites for how unique and compelling it was. It wasn't another sci-fi or dark fantasy WRPG, which is welcoming. Although, I still love those styles of RPG's.
Hey, anything from Bioware is welcome with open arms!
Clinton @ Oct 13th 2009 11:08PM
i agree one of my favorites from them up there with kotor and mass effect
Bakaneko @ Oct 13th 2009 11:40PM
I was fine with the story and the setting. I just felt massively let down by the game play systems... Character development some, but especially the combat system. If they revisited Jade Empire I would hope they'd start afresh with that, and either admit they're not interested in making a "fighter" or really step up their game on that quite a bit.
Dr. Bradwart [100% Reagan Conservative!] @ Oct 13th 2009 10:19PM
If I don't get a KotOR III, you don't get a Baldur's Gate III. Or a Neverwinter Nights III.
I'm afraid ME3 will never be released...
ignfan69 @ Oct 13th 2009 10:21PM
STRATEGY INFORMER?!!?!
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 13th 2009 10:25PM
Jade Empire was a big step in the right direction for Bioware, ditching that crappy D&D system to combat you could actually control but it was still a little rough around the edges. An improved sequel on current gen consoles, with the experience they have with Mass Effect....I would really enjoy that.
syroch @ Oct 13th 2009 10:26PM
Oh how I wish they could revisit Jade Empire. It's really the only game I pick up every single year for a play through, and I never get bored with it. I do believe it might be my favorite RPG and I would _love_ to see them go back to it.
Until then... *sniffle* I'll be waiting.
Clinton @ Oct 13th 2009 11:11PM
yea i beat it about eight times before i had to retire my original xbox, i remember trying to get to higher levels, and more moves/weapons/styles each play through. one of the only games ive played that much
ybfelix @ Oct 13th 2009 10:28PM
Joystip, mmmh...
Twist @ Oct 13th 2009 10:40PM
I would love to see a Jade Empire 2... right after they make a KOTOR 3. The Old Republic looks pretty good for an MMO but I hate MMO's and the only way I will even give it a shot is if they port it to Xbox 360.
ballistic3188 @ Oct 13th 2009 10:45PM
jade empire2 i still want. i like the narrative of it. though since you killed the water dragon shouldn't that have caused a drought to occur again?
any way i am all for a new jade empire as long as they greatly improve the combat system. seriously leaping tiger and paralyzing palm pretty much owned everything.
Blank-Mage @ Oct 13th 2009 10:58PM
I love all the Mass Effect, Jade Empire, KOTOR, Dragon Age goodness, don't get me wrong... can we please get another Sonic: The Dark Brotherhood? I've been hanging from that cliff you left me on for a while now...
Premature ejaculation man @ Oct 13th 2009 11:06PM
Jade empire was good, however unlike most of its other games (Kotor 2 is the exemption) the story was bad. What made up for it was the strange adventures and places and the fun combat.
Premature ejaculation man @ Oct 13th 2009 11:12PM
Despite that, I think its time to play the game again. Thanks Joystiq for reminding me :D
Blank-Mage @ Oct 13th 2009 11:08PM
Although Dark Wayne said this just earlier, I can't help it but
what is this i dont even
Blank-Mage @ Oct 13th 2009 11:09PM
Oh, and about Jade Empire 2? Moar Fox, plz.
Clinton @ Oct 13th 2009 11:13PM
i loved jade empire, you dont get alot of good martial arts games these days and the game was unique. i had to be the only idiot how did think the story was predictable.
Blank-Mage @ Oct 13th 2009 11:27PM
Um, not to nitpick, but that last sentence made no sense at all.
Clinton @ Oct 14th 2009 6:38AM

Well, ya got me there.

That's great. I'd love to see them revisit this game....with a better gameplay system and a better written story. Otherwise I still enjoyed it.
My most anticipated is easily Dragon Age: Origins though.
For me at the moment in terms of hype:
Dragon Age > Mass Effect 2 > Jade Empire 2 > KOTOR 3 in terms of priority. I just didn't think KOTOR was as good as their other efforts.
Charlie_Six @ Oct 13th 2009 11:56PM
I really enjoyed the fresh setting and art of Jade Empire. The gameplay was really shallow. If they could make a God of War or Ninja Gaiden style combat system to attach with their amazing storytelling skills.. damn that'd be great.
I've read a lot of comments from American gamers that they didn't like the non-white racial setting though. To them, "if it ain't white, it ain't right!" apparently.
Hakaisou @ Oct 14th 2009 1:06AM
I second this motion. Jade Empire is awesome and could only get better if you say... gave it an open world instead of paths.
Riley @ Oct 14th 2009 2:29AM
this needs to be a petition, i will sign it (possibly multiple times)
why not the LS2LS7? @ Oct 14th 2009 4:21AM
The game was awful. And there are strong arguments that it is racist too.
Let it die, Bioware.
Blank-Mage @ Oct 14th 2009 7:43AM
The only racism I saw was John Cleese, and that was FANTASTIC.
