Blaze unveils Wii-like motion controller for PS3

The subset of people who really want motion control on their PS3s yet refuse to wait for Sony to actually add it is pretty small, but never let it be said that peripheral maker Blaze is willing to leave money on the table. The company has just announced the Motion Freedom 3D controller for the system, and it looks unmistakably like a Wiimote for the PS3.

The release promises the "all new device opens up unthinkable gaming possibilities," which we're taking to mean that no one actually thought to make any games for it.

Okay, fine, Blaze says it at least works with Sega Tennis and Tiger Woods, but we can't imagine that such a retrofitted solution would be worth investing in before Sony's official offering arrives.

I dont see how a tacked on motion controls could possible be better than nativly designed motion controls, and by that I mean not only the wii but the sixaxis and motioncontroller. The only thing I can think of is if it's meant to be a weirdly shaped sixaxis but I'm not sure sony licensed their tech for third parties so it cant actually be used to play something like lair or a driving game very accurately.

In short it's going to suck.

That HAS to be copyright infringement.

I think the d-pad is (TM) Nintendo at lest isn't it?

change that and I don't think it would be though

If the Sony motion control was like the Wiimote, I'd be more than happy to actually use it.

Since Sony's Motion Controller hasn't come out yet and nobody has actually played with it then I assume you are just referring to the aesthetics of the device. In that case since you just want a device that looks more like a Wiimote regardless of functionality then you can get the controller from Blaze which aesthetically looks exactly like a Wiimote. That should satisfy you.

Archi it's mos def more like the wiimote than Natal. I'll remain open-minded, but for the most part I have zero interest in Natal but am looking forward to PS3's motion control plans.

Umm, its more in aesthetics were I wouldn't mind something like the Wiimote.

Though I do like the the original design.

That's such a Wii copycat controller. I'll wait to see the final Sony controller. This won't go anywhere and will only have a few games compatible with it. Seems like a waste to me.

was that the final one? i thought that was the latest version. i thought they were gonna add analog next so that you wouldn't have to hold the DS3 in one hand to move around.

@Prof. Von: Read the article again, it's a whole seperate product from the Sony motion controller.

The button is analog.

Protip: Analog doesn't necessarily mean a stick.
