The marketing leading up to Brütal Legend's Rocktober 13 release date (hey, that's today!) has been unlike any Tim Schafer game to date -- a steady stream of content from the game on top of the occasional live-action short. And now, Schafer's biggest project is taking the marketing machine to the boob tube (we've embedded the ad after the break, via YouTube) with a 'Hell yeah!'-laden ditty.
The bad economy paired with Brütal Legend's same-day release alongside Uncharted 2 means EA needs to get the word out. Hopefully Eddie Riggs' repeated phrase will do the trick.
This game looks interesting. Definitely want to see some reviews before I get it (not something like CoD:MW or Dragon Age that I want, like, yesterday), but it could be a fun game nonetheless.
NBC is butt buddies with MS that's why there are so many references to Bing and why every single time they show a game box it's the 360 version. So it's no wonder he was only able to spend like 30 seconds talking about Uncharted Despite having had it all weekend... Funny, he didn't treat the release of a game that's as cinematic as a movie like a movie that way he was claiming, did he?
I think word is getting out on both these games very well, with a lot of elp from late night shows. Like last night Jimmy Fallon was talking about what he did over the weekend and he said he was entranced by Uncharted 2. I don't know if he was paid to say that or if he legitimately liked and played the game.
I picked up both Brutal Legend and Uncharted 2 last night at a midnight release and Trust me you don't need to be paid to say that your entranced by Uncharted 2 it will just happen. I'm just pissed that I have to work late tonight. If I get any sleep at all tonight I'll be amazed I have been alternating back in forth between both games and to be honest Uncharted 2 is really hard to take out I probably would have just stuck with it but my 2 year old son hit the eject button this morning and handed me the brutal Legend case.
Well, I'm excited. For the longest time I've been looking forward to Fallout 3:GOTY and Brutal Legend was a maybe. Within the last month they've switched.
I'm assuming (since I can't watch youtube videos at work) this is the same commercial I saw on Sunday on Fox . If so I thought it was pretty weak. They definitely need to play up the comedic dialog as the main feature of this game, not shots of mediocre looking gameplay.
Damn it! If only I had kept Halo 3 instead of giving it to my friend last year. I could have traded that and Prototype...since I'm not sure I'll ever play that again. Great game but I got 100% already.
Yeah, my friends and I are finishing up the metagame achievements this week so I can hock Halo 3 and Left 4 Dead (which no one I know is playing anymore!). Considering it's two games I'm done with (and I have the Halo 3 Multi disc from ODST), it's a sweet ass deal!
This game was a "wait for a used deal" item for me until I played the demo. It's freaking brilliant. I hope that this is just the tip of the iceberg for this IP.
Can only be Brutal Legend for me, though I'm finally gonna Fallout 3 (GotY - as it has all the content) I won't see the advert, as I'm either gaming or working out in my own time - I only watch Doctor Who, which has no breaks..
I dunno. The dialogue in this game is so goddamn good. They could have highlighted the whole Jack Black being hilarious thing more. And the song was kinda... :/
I feel like they could have done better, as far as ads go. I really, really want this game to sell.
I stood in Best Buy for about 20 minutes at lunch today with Uncharted in one hand and this in the other, and finally walked out with Brutal Legend. Sure, I'll pick up Uncharted 2 eventually, but after getting Psychonauts 3 years too late, I owe Tim Shafer this one. Meanwhile, I'm sure Uncharted will do just fine without my week-one help.
I saw this on TV last night. Such a lame ass song for this game. It immediately reminded me of the wanna-be metal that Eddie mocks in the opening cinema.
Picked mine up at gamestop earlier, there was a bunch of people also getting this. Looks like not 1 copy of uncharted 2 sold there which is pretty sad.
That ad is terrible. It reminds me of something I saw between episodes of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back in the early 90's on Saturday mornings. Who is this marketed to? Kids?
This game really needs to be a hit. It's a shame that none of Tim's classics have ever gotten the mainstream appeal that they deserve. Sadly, Brutal Legend is getting an astounding amount of hate on the internet by posters on just about every hate. Tim can never win. He finally receives some recognition from the mainstream, and all the "hardcores" bash him, I guess because they're afraid that their little indie love with Schafer is over and they can't accept the mainstream appeal that this game has. I hope Schafer nothing but the best, and I also hope EA nothing but the best for sticking it to Activision and getting this title out the door and taking a chance with it.
