Gran Turismo 5's Kazunori Yamauchi says he could give you his studio's next entry in the venerable racing-sim series right now ... but he won't. Speaking with Famitsu last week (translated by 1UP), the Polyphony Digital studio head explains that while "We could release it any time we want," he's more interested in trying to give the game "that classic GT-style." And though "daily progress is slow," the Japanese developer assures us that "it's still going forward at a steady clip."
Unlike the PSP iteration's somewhat lackluster feature set, Yamauchi intends on going "way beyond gamer expectations" with GT5, even confirming the export of cars earned in GT PSP to next March's PS3 sequel. We're hoping he goes way beyond our expectations as well and delivers the game to other territories in a more timely fashion.

So what is progressing slowly? they probably scanned all the cars as Turn 10 did. by the look of GT-psp it has repeated models with different years slapped on.. and the cars look super-imposed over the road

Just so you know it took them about a month or more to model a full car with a detail. Not hating on you it's just that you talk shit like you know.
Here feed on this.
"In GT and GT2, both for PS1, a designer spent a day to model a car. In GT3 and GT4, for PS2, the same worker spent a month modeling the same car due to the increased amount of polygons. In GT5 for PS3, they require six months to do the same job," Yamauchi explained.
This is art, perfection. Sex on wheels. They make changes that make the next game significantly better than the last and yet not change it too much where the player doesn't lose the Grand Tourismo experience. Sorry, got into it too much. The point is, sorry to say this, but Forza is becoming the new Halo or madden ....

Just release it!!!!! A December release would of been a perfect time for it (since I could add it to a christmas list lol). I do understand perfection since I'm a artist myself but they unless its code that is so important to game play I don't understand the hesitation. I applaud them for wanting to add in every car they can but in this age of DLC it should be a non-issue. Guess like everyone else I'll be waiting for this to be released.

2 words.....Forza Three

and..... ?
Forza has nothing in terms of sheer depth that GT5 has.
GT is the true simulation. Forza is decent enough, but it doesn't quite have that Turismo feel to it.
I will still play both, as all driving lovers will (who own both consoles), but GT is the one everyone is waiting for.
It has the history, the dedication and overall, the class.

I'll admit - when you look at JUST the Forza 3 screen shots, it looks half decent, but when you compare them to GT5, the GT5 shots look SO MUCH BETTER!

I think for bragging rights, they should've released the game same day as Forza 3. If NBA Live and NBA 2K can do it, why not them?

Methinks Yamauchi is either trying to scare Turn 10 or retaliate against what one of the developers said about GT5 not coming out this year.
Kazunori: "Oh, we could release it RIGHT NOW...but we aren't ready yet. Otherwise a certain series that will remain anonymous *cough* Forza *cough* would have to watch out."

I believe him...5 months is just polishing time...making a fee tweaks here and there....my wife thanks him for not releasing it this year...of course she doesn't realize there are 5-7 games I want that come out in the first 4 months of the year..

You are comparing 2 unreleased games. Can I get some lottery numbers from you while you're seeing the future?

I only read the title. I'm so outraged I immediately want to drop my opnion "Well release it than! Cruel cruel man!"
Ok now that I'v had my say, let's read the article now.

"that classic GT-style."
Is that some kind of euphemism for "delayed again and again." ?

I find it hard to believe they would release AND CHARGE for a demo a year before the game is "finished". I'm guessing they can't get it to do something it needs to do. Probably has something to do with the OH SO FUTURISTIC AND AWESOME Cell processor.

That would be great if they taking the time to add "massive exploding cars ballet action" to GT5 when the automobiles take too much damage, like in GTA, but 10X sexier looking.

Meaning it's gonna either be a blockbuster if it's released, or a spectacular failure.

get those balls PD, release it now. o wait, you'd get pwned by forza 3.

Hopefully you are kidding. They probably don't even know what Forza is ... "Forza? That arcade racer where you drive around the city and paint cars?" obviously that game is Midnight Club LA (great game in it's own right) but the last thing PD is worried about is getting PWNED by Forza. Realistically they would be setting themselves up worse because the release of FF 13 (PS3 exclusive) in Japan happens in December ... Thats why it's been delayed. If they wait then you have two system sellers that don't step on each others toes. Tortoise beats the haire and they've waited this long making it perfect so a few more months isn't a big deal.
Let's see how well Forza sells compared to the other big releases ... we can compare sales figures after both have been released. My guess is GT 5 blows it away in terms of sales volume. GT 5 probably sells close to 8 million copies by the end of 2010.
Think about it ... Uncharted 2 then Final Fantasy 13 then MAG then Heavy Rain then God Of War 3 then Gran Turismo 5 then white knight chronicles ... thats different regions but it's a hell of a 6 month run of exclusives.

You never make any sense. I know that was supposed to be a joke but more than any other commenter on the site I never can understand what you are saying.

hypothetical question for all of you:
would you rather have an unfinished, but still fun game released now, and improved over time and numerous patches, or a game held until it's perfect?
would we be turned away from the game for a while and never get as deeply into it? would the metacritic scores murder its sales?
Whaddya think?

I would much rather have a perfect game released without the need for updates. I put in Brutal Legend yesterday, excited to play about 20 minutes before I had class (ultimately decided that Uncharted 2 would be too engrossing and end up with me missing class during midterm week. Yea responsibility!) only to find out that there was a 256 MB update on release day. Long story short, I didn't get to play until AFTER class. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but disappointing nonetheless.
It's also not just release day titles. Anytime I want to play quick game of something I don't regularly play, I have to either disconnect from the internet or sit through a number of updates. It's great that bugs can be fixed and content added post-release... but releasing something that isn't finished and needs constant updates is absolutely terrible in my eyes. I guess I just haven't fully embraced the digital age yet. =/
