Sad to say, but many people are simply taking this game the wrong way. This game was designed with a very specific target market in mind, and while it would have been nice to see massive amounts of revenue generated for Schafer for creating this game, I truly doubt that it was his main priority. It's very difficult for a large portion (not all) of the younger generations to comprehend that sometimes we do things not for profit or status, but simply because "It just feels right.". I'm sure that all of you noticed the "Don't you ever wish you were born earlier?" conversation at the start of the game in which our hero wishes he was born in the EARLY 70's, when metal was real? That's not just in there for comedic effect. I truly feel sorry for the ones playing this game that were raised on the ultra-high definition, endlessly-long-because-I-have-to-make-up-for-my-lack-of-plot video games. Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE high definition graphics, and even the occasional mind-numbing action game, but it's usually a story that keeps the game alive (at least for me). If you look at it from an analytical point of view, this game suceeds in many ways, as long as you are part of the target market.

Now I know many of you are wondering at this point, "Who exactly is this for?", and it's very simple. Lovers of metal and what I call "non-catagorical gamers". Yes, I know some of you are looking at your screens wondering what I'm talking about. A non-catagorical gamer is someone who doesn't fall into a specific "hardcore" type of gamer, such as a RTS, first-person shooter, or even a RPG fanatic, but rather loves to play ALL types of games, depending on their mood. This game offers a wide variety of entertainment depending on how you feel at the time. For example: Action? Check. Racing? Check. Real Time Strategy? Check. You get the idea. Now while this video game would appeal to me simply because of it's diversity, it also strikes a cord due to it's over-the-top metal atmosphere in which the game world was designed. This is going to cause almost all (I leave room for exceptions) metal loving, non-catagorical gamers in a state of jaw-dropping awe, while leaving most of the pop-culture, genre gamers truly hating this game with a passion. To those of the latter type, you should probably pass on this game, since the game really wasn't designed with you in mind in the first place, and you would probably have a much better time picking up the latest genre-specific video game of your choice. To those who are somewhere in the middle, I wish you luck in your decision, and remember that you can rent it if you aren't sure. Later, you can either choose to buy the game or not, according to your tastes.

Yeah, not what I though it would be (see I read that whole first paragraph). But Brugal Legbone is still awesome.

Having finished the game I can say this review was really poorly done, just about every complaint Randy had was bogus, I think he just didn't get Brutal Legend.

I gotta agree with the review. I played this for a couple of hours today and got bored of the saminess. I love Jack Black and the opening presentation is funny, but the combat is monotonous and that's basically the whole game.

This review is totally off the mark.

Basically, if you love Metal, you will love this game. If not, it's simply a decent game.

9/10 for metal fans, 8/10 for non-metal fans.

"The graphics and gameplay look terrible, so much so that if they offered it on PS2 that would be my console of choice to play it on."

Seriously, get a new TV, or glasses. This game looks amazing.

Become an epic hero in a Heavy Metal Fantasy World with Brutal Legend. When ex-roadie Eddie Riggs is drawn back to an ancient world of heavy metal by a mysterious power, he lands in a world where humans are subjugated by demons and he is the only one who can save them. Legendary game designer Tim Schafer strikes again with a story featuring Jack Black as Eddie Riggs. Filled with humor, awesome characters, and melted faces, you will be on the edge of their seats. Okay so I've beat the game.
One word: DECAPITATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've a feeling a lot of the negative reviews are due to unusually high expectations.
It did loose steam at the end and the final main battle was a bit of a let down. Very anti-climatic when so many RTS games have had epic battles of massive proportions (Thinking of Warcraft 3)

Still while the end game does take it down a notch I had fun with the game throughout. Not sure I'm going to revisit the multiplayer as the replay value for me is about a 5/10 but the game, and the ride was epic, the humor was spot on and the commentary about rock in it's purest form was killer for a guy like me.

Let me put it to you this way. If you at any time have wished a boy band would die of rectal cancer, this is your game. If the thought of Ozzy as a demonic lord who upgrades your ride is totally awesome, this is your game.
