Splatterhouse opens its doors in Q3 2010

These new screens look pretty different from what we've seen, seeming to show a little bit of a cel-shaded effect and, for some reason, reduced muscle definition on Rick. We didn't really expect Namco to be messing around with the basic look of the game, but there it is.
The company also adjusted the previous "early 2010" release date we'd heard: now the game is slated for "Q3 2010." We're kind of hoping the extra time goes into the graphics. At least into getting them back to the state they were in last year.

Do they really think that beefing up Rick to the point of Roid Rage is somehow awesome?? I loved the original Splatterhouse titles, but they should take notes from God of War: Your protagonist doesn't have to be nut-crushingly huge to be considered "powerful".

He's always been pretty big, though...

Yeah, but Carnie Mirror big?! I remember he seemed most-ripped in Splatterhouse 3, but even then his proportions were still somewhat true-to-life until he went into that insane mode or whatever it was. The rest of the time he looked like a ripped dude, not one of the Joker's Titan experiments from Arkham Asylum.

Still not sure about the visual style of this game but I am curious about it. Loved Splatterhouse 3 on the Genesis even though I could never beat it. Awesome intro too.

I agree with the poster. Make it real. Make it really real. And bloody. Or keep the 2D look. Plus the blood.

Give me an downloadable HD remake instead of this trash.

You know what this Splatterhouse should have been like? A Condemned-style survival horror FPS. They also should have kept the disturbing imagery from the previous games intact.

So we're already starting to line up for Holiday 2010?
Damn.

You mean the post - holiday bargin bin sale. I want this to be awesome but I think it will more than likely be a disaster. I want a remake for xbla or psn.
Risky @ Oct 13th 2009 5:06PM
This looks like a pile of crap that will be in the bargain bin in a month after release. This should have been in the hands of a Japanese developer.

3rd quarter of 2010? Now, I'm no expert, but that sounds like a bad time to launch this title. Not only is 2010 jampacked with blockbusters, but this title was supposed to be out a lot earlier.
Now, I'm all for further polish, so don't get me wrong, but I just don't see this game getting the attention, and I also think it won't age so well. The graphics are already starting to look dated. And the gameplay doesn't exactly look as good as I had hoped.
The real bummer here is that Namco/Bandai took the game from BottleRocket and gave it to Surge. I found that as a very rude move on Namco/Bandai's part. And it also turned me off as a potential buyer early on.

can smell a potential fail in this one

I'm not giving up on this, having never played any of the previous installments, it's not going to bother me if certain elements are changed.
