Two years of Dragon Age DLC planned; expansion packs considered

BioWare is planning DLC for Dragon Age Origins to stretch out over the next two years. TheGameReviews spoke with executive producer Mark Darrah, who said the DLC will include small things like "item packs," as well as "larger quests that might last an hour or two, up to even fully fledged expansion packs."

Darrah expects that the DLC will make it onto all platforms, except for the mods toolset, which will likely be PC-only. We'll maintain cautious optimism about Dragon Age DLC until BioWare brings the goods to market. The developer is lucky that Mass Effect took place in space, because the lack of DLC (support and testing) certainly made us want to scream.

The 2 pieces of DLC were released in a 2 year time frame. They never said *how* much DLC would be made available.

Oh, I don't know how much BioWare promised for Mass Effect. I was just pointing out what 'two years' could mean.

Obviously people don't dislike tmac as much as they seem to dislike you...whoever you are.

This game seems too linear for DLC to be usefull. I'm sure it isn't though. I'm not even sure if it is open world (No invisible walls).

If anything this article made my decision on what game to buy next 1/3 simpler.

I'm so worried about it, I've never not enjoyed a bioware game immensely but this one seems like it's just teetering on the edge of failure

It reminds me a lot of an Obsidian game, really. And Obsidian games are usually lower-quality Bioware games. It just concerns me that the only unique thing I've seen about it is how blood splatters on your character and MORE SEX SCENEEEES.

It also, from what I can tell, hasn't had as much dev time as most Bioware games. It seems like sort of a side-project to put out until Mass Effect 2 is done.

Of course, I would love to be proven wrong and see how great it is, but I'm not really expecting the best.

It better just be insignificant DLC for the first year. Otherwise, there is absolutely no reason why it shouldn't already be on the Disc. Or they better do like AA and give it away for free which won't happen, but one can hope.

why? They didn't say it would be available the same day as the game's release. If it comes out two months later why should it be on the disc?

Here's the deal - if I can educate one person, than I've helped. Let's assume you have no project management experience, OK?

You have a team (graphic artists, sound engineer, programmers, etc.) and you have a date that a project must be done. Now, on top of that, this project has to be tested by people you have no control over, pressed on discs by people you have no control over and advertised and shipped by people you have no control over.

Do you see where I'm going with this?

Sure, I would say some company's PURPOSELY make items solely for additional money (DLC) but don't think for one minute ALL games are made by Blizzard (it's done when it's done) and can afford that model.

Game company's go under all the time so don't think it's a magic formula. If I put you in charge of a game company tomorrow for only one title, I bet you'd shit your pants by the 2nd week... every day.

Supposedly you can get 800 hours out of this game. I think that's plenty on one disk. We've already had this discussion over dlc and what should be on the disk. It's old. If you don't want to pay for it, if you think it's a rip off, then don't buy it. If you think it's not fair, send them a message by not paying for it.

If operation anchorage had come out the same day as fallout 3, we'd be hearing the same complaints. Despite fallout 3 being one of the best values is gaming.

Ok, couple things:

1) Perhaps, a year is a little long to wait for new, quality DLC and I apologize for apparently offending many. However, if quality DLC is released within 2-6 months that most likely means it was in development with the game itself. So, again, why isn't it on the disc?

2) Many a games release date has been pushed back to a later date. You don't need project management experience to know that. Particularly, this holiday season with the release of MW2. You are telling me these games are not still undergoing additional development as a result? So its not inconceivable for Bioware to do this itself on occasion and I doubt they will suffer any harsh repercussions as a result.

3) If the game does indeed have 800 hours of game play than fine. I rarely finish a game of that magnitude and so I will not require the DLC. Nevertheless, if this discussion has been argued before and you tire of it, feel free not to contribute next time.

No wonder publishers dont like new IP's. What can possibly go wrong here guys? Bioware makes new fantasy rpg...... and I was SOLD.

No sense getting GotY'd or Super'd. Best just to wait for the Ultimate HD version.

You all shouldn't wait for the GotY. It'll either A: Be in that 'ugly as sin' Greatest Hits case or B: Not include the vouchers for the DLC shipping day one.

What is with people a video game case? It's not like you'd be looking at it all day or something. It's not that fucking serious!

It matters to a lot of collectors/people with OCD's. I don't like the GH design. It also usually screws up the game art. Haven't you seen the Halo 2 GH case? *shudders*

I'm sure there are plenty of people who thought covers were so ugly, they designed their own.

It's amazing how such a large game already quite possibly has the most DLC already planned and good to go.

Anywho, my only issue with this fantastic game is the controls. I really haven't heard much to as how it feels on the PS3. Sadly my PC blew up so I won't be able to play it the traditional way, but really hope the experience on the PS3 works out because it would be a shame to miss out on a game BIOWARE put so much heart into. This is what gaming is all about imo.

Is this game going to be a point and watch your guy fight or like Mass Effect where you do the fighting?

Hmm, should I just wait for the GOTY then?

Guess I won't be selling this after the first play-through after all...
