With ostentatiously lengthy titles such as A Shantotto Ascension - The Legend Torn, Her Empire Born, we can't blame you for not being able to keep track of the expansions for Final Fantasy XI. By the end of this year, the game will have received seven content additions in the form of retail expansion packs and downloadable add-ons. Fortunately, Square Enix has decided to bundle all of these together in the Final Fantasy XI Ultimate Collection for PC and 360, which is set to hit North American store shelves on November 10 with a slim $20 price tag.
Seems like an odd move, considering one of these add-ons isn't even out yet. Still, with a new bundle of joy on its way, Squeenix is probably getting antsy about last year's model.

If they remade FF7, I'd get it. Never played through the original, but have heard nothing but great things about it.

If you do go into it don't go with super high expectations. It was a great game for it's time, but there have been a lot of improvements since then. It's still good though and worth a play through, you probably just won't enjoy it as much as those who it has a nostalgic value for.

FF7 was great. You owe it to yourself as a gamer to play it.

What does an FF7 remake have to do with the release of the FFXI Ultimate Collection?

Honestly, I liked IX better than VII, but FFVI is the best Final Fantasy game, IMO. But if you want a great RPG, get Chrono Trigger. The graphics are outdated, but it is still one of the best RPGs ever made.

Chrono Trigger: Highly overrated
FF4: Most people's go to game since it was their first FF
FF6: Everyone else's go to since it was the last of the "pure" final fantasy games.
FF7: Awesome game that gets hated on since it spearheaded the RPG in the US mainstream.
FF5: The best of the 16-bit FF games. FFX is probably the best traditional RPG gameplay to date. FF7 though has an amazing story (Behind all the engrish translations) and is well worth it's praise. I don't blame newcomers from skipping over it (try playing a 3D game from 1997 or earlier for the first time, it sucks) - But FF7 totally has merit to it. It does need a next-gen or PSP update. Playing through Dissidia and Crisis Core really show how much that could rock.

A good price, no doubt, but the online fee kills it for me. I'm not big on MMO's, but if I were to pay a monthly fee to play one, it surely wouldn't be FFXI. Not that it's bad or anything, just not my personal preference.

Welcome to all MMOs! Paying a monthly fee after you buy the game is an expected given in all mainstream MMOs. FFXI is 7 years old, it's quite obvious now.

There is a lack of online single player as well. You can't walk a step without a party.

@ Dom
For the past two years, FFXI has had an excellent solo system. Fields of Valor lets any player of any job solo levels 1-55, and Campaign lets players 55-75 solo.
You can solo all the way up.
I understand people's lack of interest in FFXI at this point, (it's only one of the most successful, longest-running MMORPGs of all time and is the only cross-platform MMO to date), but please don't spread misinformation.
I played FFXI for a long time (and still have my account, actually), but I don't know if I'll be going back. I'm too excited for FFXIV! In fact, I did a seven-part series on how FFXIV can improve upon FFXI over at www.somnambulantgamer.com. For anyone interested in reading about how FFXI succeeds (and fails), or what FFXIV should bring to the table, please give it a read.

At least the expansions still run on PS2.
I do wish they had made a PS3 version, though PS3's with BC can play the PS2 version just fine.
Guess I'll have to wait until FFXIV (which I'm looking forward to), but FFXI is still a fun game with massive amounts of stuff which I haven't done yet - perhaps they will come up with a discount subscription for people who want to play both games?

I dunno why people asking if there is an offline when people have already said there isn't... Also yes you can solo all the way to 75. You just got to know what you are doing. Also not all jobs can solo all the way to 75. Only complaint I have is that the people playing on free trials get all the same privileges that we do which isn't right. They should only get the original game and RotZ with the updates like level sync plus restrictions to who they can /tell. All the scams that happen on FFXI happen from people using Free Trials. Also after FFXIV comes out I think they should consider slicing the monthly fee in half. I can't tell them to remove it because it cost a lot of money to keep those servers up, but only having to pay 6.99 a month would be nice.

The game is dead simple as that no one will buy it ,you can add 100 expansion for 1.99 and it's still not selling. There's at most 1500 people on the more crowed servers and that is on prime times.
