Earlier this year, Microsoft had to release longtime Flight Simulator dev team, ACES Studio, from the nest. Since then, Rick Selby and Kathie Flood have been working to start up a new studio -- and now that hard work has come to fruition. Enter: Cascade Game Foundry, the duo's new Washington-based studio that will aim to fill the gap in the hardcore sim market left by ACES' closure.
Selby and Flood both offered some comments in a press release via the company's site, stating that those hardcore sim fans who are now flying blind will become the new company's "critical foundation," but by no means do they want Cascade to stop there. They envision the company catering to simulation junkies craving experiences outside of flying planes or conducting trains, offering examples such as "Scuba diving off Hawaii, traversing the Andes" and "hiking the Great Wall of China."
The company is now working to get a demo in order for its first project. We'll keep you posted.

Could this studio work with MS on continuing the Flight Simulator franchise (like what one of studios formed out of the Ensemble closure does)
I'd think it'd great if they could create a innovative iPhone and NDS/PSP/Wii/PS3/Xbox/PC flight simulation type game-perhaps taking advantage of 3GS and the latest technologies.

They can, like Microsoft is doing with the Halo series and Bungie, and the Mechwarrior series and Smith and Tinker

There was no "gap" left. We still have X-Plane, which is still developer, supports Mac, Windows, Linux, and even the iPhone. Is much more of a true flight simulator (actually simulates the physics of flight) as opposed to MSFS' flight MODEL simulator. X-Plane is even FAA certified (same software, but with very specific configurations and licensing) for training and logable simulator time. Many within the true "hardcore" flight simulation community consider MSFS to be more of a mass-market toy with X-Plane the serious simulator.
If they really want to make an impact, they should join Austin Meyer and work to further improve X-Plane and integrate some of the things that made Microsoft Flight Simulator the more popular product (official support from Boeing, Cessna, etc.; Better graphics rendering; large collection of high quality commercial add-ons; etc.).

And for the record, no, I have no affiliation with Austin or with X-Plane, but have been a Flight Simmer for well over a decade, used both MSFS and X-Plane and while I have enjoyed MSFS, I felt the need to point out that not only is X-Plane doing quite well, it's superior in terms of simulation (has been used to successfully design and test REAL experimental aircraft, the way it's simulation is done, a few parameters can be tweaked to simulate the gravity, atmospheric density, etc. for potential atmospheric flight on Mars, etc.). Thus, true "hardcore" simmers are more interested in X-Plane anyway.

I wish these guys would make something for the 360. I can't believe there is literally not one non-combat flight sim on next gen consoles.
