Former Super Mario Bros. Super Show star 'Captain' Lou Albano dies

For many gamers in their twenty-somethings, "Captain" Lou Albano is best remembered for his portrayal of Nintendo's titular mascot in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show. We regret to inform you that Albano has passed away at the age of 76.

Acting on numerous tips, we were led to details on PopEater, which reports that Albano passed away at his home in Mount Vernon, NY. Family members confirmed on Monday that Albano was under hospice care for an undiscovered condition. Albano leaves behind a lasting legacy in the wrestling world and fond childhood memories of doin' the Mario for many Joystiq staff members.

For many gamers, he is best known as a manager for some of the most famous professional wrestlers of all time. May he rest in peace and find eternal happiness with the dear friends who departed before him.

Do the Mario was my ring tone for a bit. Plus this show is on netflix streaming so I have been watching an episode here and there. Sad to see him go.

One of the most epic images from the 80's was Capt Lou Albano sitting in a chair sporting his rubber band beard with potato chips all over him and his nasty gut. I know, I had that WWF sticker on the side of my fridge for YEARS.

That's a shame. I never watched the show, but I can tell that everyone here loved him.

This is sad. I remember watching this as a kid. I was also a fan of wrestling, so that made it extra awesome. Everyone is dying off. :( We need some good news. To everyone who has recently passed away, R.I.P.
