Hollywood effects studio Digital Domain getting into games
In these days when studios seem to be closing faster than we can write posts about them, it's nice to see someone new getting into the game. Digital Domain, a Hollywood effects studio that's worked on films like A Curious Case of Benjamin Button, has opened a Florida expansion (cleverly titled Digital Domain Florida), which it says (via Variety) will focus on "videogames, animation and even military simulation graphics."
DD (can we call you DD?), since you're new here, we're going to offer some free advice. A Curious Case of Benjamin Button: The Game would be a huge, huge hit. It would, as we say in the video game biz, "sell a lot of copies." ... No, you can trust us on this. We're a website.

The first word in what will later become an EPIC POST.

They can make a guy age really well, but I'm not sure that qualifies them for the design and production of video games.

I Wouldn't say a Game ABOUT Benjamin Button would sell good...but a story similar will.....I could see Team Ico REALLY getting the most out of that story. Having the kid/old man hybrid getting younger as he gets older and of course dying(turning back into sperm & egg.....that in itself would be CRAZY to see!!

I don't know....I truly hated Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which I thought was hugely overrated and seemed to exist only to show off technology, much like Jumanji. In BB, the effects only worked part of the time. Oh sure they aged him well and for 60% of the movie he's old (and I'm sorry, creepy), then for a brief time he's himself, then they try to digitally de-age him, and that effect really doesn't work at all. Then it's like, okay, bring in a child actor. It was as if they ran out of time and money to make him look younger.
I'm sure ANYONE, effects studio or not, can create a video game where someone ages.
But as far as a game based on the Benjamin movie--- pass.

I've never understood why more special effects companies don't get into games and why more game companies don't get into doing CGI for movies.

Old man Brad Pitt looks like David Letterman or that dude from Food Network with the glasses - Alton Brown.

Technically, this is at least the second (maybe third) time Digital Domain has entered the games space. Previous attempts were shut down.

Benjamin Button was one of the worst movies I've seen in my life. Did any guy seriously enjoy that movie?
