The 41,000 member group formed to boycott Left 4 Dead 2 has reached its end, following Valve's pledge to add more content to the original game (which is already being made good on). As of October 21st, the collective will be disbanded after succeeding in its quest "to get Valve's attention and have them support original L4D."
Fresh from his free studio tour (courtesy of Valve), group co-founder "Agent of Chaos" wrote, "Our goal wasn't to steer people away from L4D2, it was to get Valve's attention and have them support original L4D." So, by utilizing a boycott that wasn't intended to keep people from buying a game, you managed to force Valve to do something they certainly would have done anyway.
Dear Internet: You are getting predictable.

Eh I was a member of this group, but then Valve had a firesale and I picked up a L4D2 preorder for 33.75. I'll pay that price for a glorified expansion pack with a smile. They won me over.

I wish I could find a deal like that for the 360...why would you boycott a great game in the first place? If they came out with L4D 3, I would gladly fork over the money if its a great game.

I'm not sure these people actually understand the meaning of the word "boycott" here.

This whole thing was disarmed from the beginning. All the 'boycotters' would have bought the game anyway and Valve was going to support the game anyway. We're left with a hollow threat and an obvious course of action.
Is this whole thing not just a waste of time?

Exactly. Hopefully Valve implements one handed controls in L4D2 to make these whiners happy now too. How else are they going to enjoy their successful campaigning while playing L4D2 with all the 'patting themselves on the back' going on.

I agree with inchworm, fuck them.
It's all a bunch of whiners spoiled by the amazing support TF 2 received. I bought L4D, and was VERY excited when L4D2 was announced. Sure...I felt it was a little early, but I didn't really care because it was MORE L4D.
They gave us another mode (with new maps), and another Campaign...FOR FREE. That's damn good support...Sure, it's not TF 2 support, but there's not many games that get even that much support.
Bottom line...Fuck them.

There's no such thing as L4D 3 coming out too early!!! I love the series and can't find any zombie game that can compare with it's greatness. People need to stop being cheap bastards

I completely agree. It's easily one of the best zombie games out there, and it's worth every cent.
I mean, sports games re-release every year, and they have even less improvements to show for it than L4D...This was really nothing to get excited about at all. Valve always does quality work. whether it's on a sequel that comes a year later, or 10 years later. IT WILL BE WORTH THE MONEY YOU SPEND ON IT.

Let them have their victory. At least Valve humored them and created the illusion that something big was accomplished. Which is basically vidya games in a nutshell.

I am starting a group boycotting Joystiq until they make a new thread... Of course, this group will be hosted on the joystiq site and we will have to visit joystiq to post on it. My hopes are they they get the point that we demand MORE THREADS on game news...

How about a boycott about the censored version being released in Australia? I'm sure a few Austrians would like some gore on their zombie apocalyse.

Hey! Let's boycott George Lucas until he apologizes for ruining Star Wars! And he agrees to remake the Prequel Trilogy with 100 percent less Jar Jar!

No. I want vengance! I want Jar Jar Binks to commit seppuku live during the Super Bowl...and I want George Lucas to beg for mercy. Also, I want Hayden Christiansen incarcerated for life.

That would be most awesome. Here's my alternate choice: pick up No More Heroes 2. It'll be much better than any of the Star Wars spin offs.

If anything I think the boycott has shown what a stand-up company Valve really is. They were willing to listen to them and took the boycott seriously. Flew out the two dudes for tons of publicity but I think they genuinely wanted to prove L4D2 was worth the money and that they listen to the community. I think what might've helped this would be if they could have somehow allowed owners of L4D to import the 4 campaigns into L4D2. Doubt that's possible though.
