The 41,000 member group formed to boycott Left 4 Dead 2 has reached its end, following Valve's pledge to add more content to the original game (which is already being made good on). As of October 21st, the collective will be disbanded after succeeding in its quest "to get Valve's attention and have them support original L4D."
Fresh from his free studio tour (courtesy of Valve), group co-founder "Agent of Chaos" wrote, "Our goal wasn't to steer people away from L4D2, it was to get Valve's attention and have them support original L4D." So, by utilizing a boycott that wasn't intended to keep people from buying a game, you managed to force Valve to do something they certainly would have done anyway.
Dear Internet: You are getting predictable.

If he doesn't have a silver one as well, he must've lied to get it.

Gabe Newell honestly looks like a very jovial fellow. Like someone who always seems to be in a good mood.
I wish i could be more like that.

It's easy to do. Just make a ton of money and you'll smile like that all the time.
I guess you could cut your face up...but that would be painful. And you'd likely be a bit weird after that.

Honestly, I hate to be so frank, but people can be very idiotic at times. Has Valve ever let us down? No. I mean, sure, some folks won't like every game they put out, but as a whole, I think it's fair to say that Valve knows how to deliver the goods.
I'll be honest, though. L4D didn't come with that much content out of the box for full retail. Luckily, PC owners were able to get their hands on some freebies. I wish Microsoft would allow console owners to have the same luxury with L4D content.
But with that said, L4D delivered a fun co-op experience unlike any other. There were so many "oh shit" moments in that game, which made it worth the price of admission, at least for me.
L4D2 will be no different. It'll be the original, but vastly improved and with tons of new content added to what made the first L4D so enjoyable.
I know I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel. What say you?

I've gotten a different vibe from this whole thing then most, I feel. As a disclaimer, I haven't played much of the original L4D (though someday I reckon I'll hop on board with the sequel), but I didn't get a whiny sense of entitlement from these gamers. I got a fairly understandable sense of dismay at their investment possibly turning into annual, sports-game releases.
The main problem seemed that L4D is an almost purely online game. A sequel less than a year later, and the people who dropped the money on the original feel like their game will be obsolete, and the servers will be desolate. While, with 41,000 petition signers, this is obviously false, I think people here could associate a least a little bit with that sentiment.
Yes, it was a less than stellar way to make that point, and a boycott IS supposed to stifle sales, regardless of what they say. They chose the wrong way about it, but the real concern seemed, to me, about invalidating a purchase from some loyal valve customers. And that did need to be addressed.
That said, I'm glad it's over and we can move on. Cricket bat? I think I'm on board for the sequel.

As an owner of the first game, it's a pity that multiplayer got really boring really fast. I really can't bring myself to pay for such short lived enjoyment in another installment. Sorry Valve.

I would have much rather them NOT support L4d, than the wallet raping of $7 dollars I recieved for 2/5 of a level. When they were talking about it, they made it seem as if it was a full scenerio and a half. Sorely disappointed, I should get $7 off L4d 2 for that nonsense.
