So you pirated it on the PC then? Let's say you didn't have a PC, only a 360 or PS3 but it could play pirated games with full functionality, full online play, etc. Would you pirate on them instead?

Hi Joystiq, I was a pirate back in the PS2 days. I was a kid back then who had no ambitions to get a job and if I had a job, I doubt I would have spent it on games as there were other things in life that interested me. I didn't acquire such a library of games, but I had quite the amount. Oh, and I wasn't even legal to work. Right up when I got a little bit older and when the PS3 was released, though, I thought to myself "Oh shit, how am I going to pay for $59.99 games now?" because the PS3 was unhackable at its time. I thought this was a turning point to get my broke ass a job, and so I eventually got one and started paying for games. I'm telling you, it feels much more rewarding paying for games rather than pirating them, but at the same time I also felt the wallet when I bought a pretty shitty game. Well, there goes my two cents!

I remember the conversations in law class we had about justifying piracy.

Guess what, it's just not possible. No matter how hard you try, you will never be able to justify piracy. However, you can just ignore the consequences.

Wow, I don't think I will ever buy a CM game again.

First, they released the buggiest game I have played in years. THe game is basically unfinished, and multiplayer is unplayable.

How the FUCK are they even thinking about DLC without a patch first?

I honestly think there are just ArmA II fanboys (butthurt bunch they are over purchasing a buggy disgusting mess) are the ones trolling every forum on the internet claiming how buggy OFP:DR is. I have the game on PC and 360 but have yet to experience any lag, bugs or glitches (except one where a dead enemy didn't fall over). That is in singleplayer, co-op and multiplayer.

I honestly think you are full of ****.

1. I lag more on OFPDR more than any other game on my xbox. In fact, its the ONLY game I experience REGULAR lag on while playing over xbox live.

2. only a sample of the issues I have experienced with OFP so far:

1.Enemies in MP take 3-4 headshots to die

2. Vehicle physics are a JOKE. (hit a rock and bounce 15 feet backwards, turn at more than 30 mph and flip over every time.

3. floating bodies

4. invisible guns

5.HORRIBLE friendly AI (constantly getting stuck and they do not respond to my orders at least 50% of the time.)

6. poor enemy AI

7. HUD disappears and reappears randomly

8. constant disconnections and lag on MP

9. to put it simply, MP just ISNT FUN compared to OFP1. Especially with no mission editor on consoles

10. CM advertised 60+ weapons, when really there is only 20 or so, just with different scopes on each.

11. Where the hell are all the vehicles?

12. NO FREE ROAM, (god that pisses me off) even though CM advertised free roam on OFP2 over and over again.

Also, I am not an arma fanboy, having never played Arma 1 or 2. (my computer cant handle it). so dont go blindly calling people ARMA fanboys because they think this game is bad.

Hell, my comp can barely even handle OFP1 with max settings

the main reason why I am so pissed over this is because CODEMASTERS completely stole the OFP name from bohemia and then ruined the franchise, releasing a buggy, unfinished, piece of sh*t game. I do plan to buy ARMA2 asap once I get a new comp, which should be really soon.

So basically in a nutshell:

OFPDR is trash. Codemasters has royally pissed me off and I will never buy another CM product again.

If you have experienced ZERO issues with the game, I HIGHLY DOUBT you have ever played it. So GTFO.

This game was gimped profusely compared to the original for the PC and Xbox. Bodies disappear in seconds, no civilian activity, most of the vehicles aren't drivable and the Mission editor is COMPLETELY MISSING. This is like what Ghost Recon would've naturally evolved into if GRAW didn't release.
You get this massive world to fight in , but you can't go more than a few meters from where the mission is , or you get called for going AWOL. And in co op you're in this weird invisible barrier to keep you close, even though its supposed to be a military sim. I knew i should've just got Arma 2 but i figured they couldn't have messed it up this bad.
Compared to the original version, this game is shit. But on its own merits its like a 6/10. Either way don't buy it.

the original flashpoint was one of the coolest games i have ever played, huge maps, everything that moves you can drive, and dont forget the hours and hours of CTI games that were just the coolest multiplayer experience EVER.

/sigh ... all i wanted was CTI in this version

I also thought the game was a messy unfinished unplayable mess. I picked up the PS3 version without having every played any game in the series and it was one of the absolute worst games I've ever seen or played. The graphics were muddy and looked like dog shit, the color palette was that next gen combination or grey, brown and dark green and the menu system for issuing commands was unnecessarily difficult and it didn't have a true tutorial for issuing different commands. Not only that but the gameplay itself was beyond rigid ... it didn't feel realistic as much as it felt restricted and unfinished. I went to go trade it in at Gamestop for store credit and the store clerk told me he would return it as new just this once because he had played it as well and felt sorry that anyone would have to suffer through it! The game is just complete garbage on the PS3 ... can't see it being different on other platforms.

Codemasters lied pre-release about the content.

This game is like older Ghost Recon games. Which is far beyond being a bad game.

BUT!!!

It was advertised as a Flashpoint game, not a Ubi-Release.

No free roam!!!!
Not every vehicle is drivable as they promised.
Campaign is Infantery only, w/ a few chances to hop into a humvee.
No tank specific or helo specific missions at all.

Epic fail, codemasters

I played this over a friends house tonight. I didn't like it that much although he was trying to make me like it. It's not a bad game but just not my style of game I guess.
My main gripe was that the enemies where always too damn far away. Someone would be shooting at you from 200 meters away and you would be lucky if you could see them even with the scope.

I had an AI teammate run me over with a truck. As soon as I got the medic to revive me the same guy backed the truck back over me before I got up to finish me off. (Which was Hilarious) I think I may want to try the multiplayer (and DLC) though if the maps are as huge as the single player campaign.

I played the original and you die a lot. You had to stay hidden and let the enemy move first or you would die.

It was difficult to hit the enemy too, but for some reason the enemy could hit you no problem.

Making a realistic game does not mean giving advantage above and beyond what the player has. It was really difficult to spot the enemy, and then even harder to shoot them. They would be able to hit you from 1,000 yards though.

I have this game on the 360 and can tell you don't waste your money or time on it. A.I. enemies have the god like gift to kill you from 200 meters away. ( at 200 meters they look like a small freckle if they are not hiding in the trees on my 60 inch T.V. screen) multiplayer is pointless because kills do not count to rank up. Only games won do, 5 won games 1 rank up. No check points when in co-op. Lots of bugs and freezes. Modern Warfare 2 will be out soon so who cares about DLC for this game. Nothing like the first one. I'm I reviewing this game to harshly?

there's nothing wrong with game based ranking up, Halo does it and it works fine. You can get shitloads of kills by being and asshole and not helping your team with an objective, which is why getting rewarded only when your whole team succeeds is a good thing.

Sounds like you've never even played the game. I'm on a 32" screen and enemies 200 meters away aren't a problem to spot at all, just because this isn't COD where the game has a giant neon sign that says, "OMFG ENIMEZ RITE HUR GOGOGOGOGO" doesn't mean it's bad design. Not only that but co-op doesn't have checkpoints because they toss in a respawn system and if you still need checkpoints ontop of that YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG.

I keep hearing aboutt his paranormal god-like enemy AI but honestly I cut through them on hardcore without issue. Perhaps you should stop standing with your LMG running through the bushes shooting it in the sky, because when 15 NPC's see that and fire at you chances are you'll die within a second. I haven't experienced any cheep enemy shots in the campaign though I have died alot from being stupid but in a standard firefight I do get hit on occasion but I just move to cover, stop my bleeding and wait for a medic to get me back in fighting shape. And this bug issue... yeah on neither the PC or 360 have I seen any real issues save one instance where an enemy didn't fall over dead and clipped into a tree.

Sounds like someone is just mad because the game is "too hard."

stop being a fucking douche bag and accept that the game is a alright at best. No one complains that the game is "too hard" dumbass, the same thing is said about Demon's Souls and it gets high regards for that. The game suffers from bugs, terrible graphics for a game based on distance and limitations.

For a game that looks just as good as Far Cry 2 but with better character models I hardly see how it "looks terrible." It also has a 35km draw distance, find me another game that does that while looking as good as it does. People keep listing "bugs" as a glaring flaw but I've yet to hear/see any of such issues. Like I said I own it on both PC and 360 and have yet to experience such an issue.

And yes people complain it is "too hard." Making false accusations over the enemy AI being a perfect god-like shot is code for "too hard." They AI is perfectly fair and at 200 meters the shot spreads they have are entirely believable and relative to real life, and works both for you and the enemy AI. Now of course if you play it like a theatrical shooter like COD you're going to get buried and I can see how someone who is use to such a game would come to such moronic conclusions. The game does what it advertised and it does it superbly in a dying genre.

No need to be some combative over someone elses opinion on the damn game. I played and I had never played any previous iteration in the series. I bought into the hype about being realistic, unforgiving and taking place in an on-going war. The problem is that the island was barely populated, the squad commands were unnecessarily complicated, the graphics were muddy as shit, everything blended in with those colors of brown, grey and green and the game itself simply wasn't fun. I thought it was one of the worst playing and worst looking games I've played this generation. It was fucking terrible.

If you like it then more power to you ... but, just because others don't like it doesn't mean they are arma 2 fanboys (whatever that is) or because the game is too difficult. The bottom line for me is the game simply sucked.

I don't know on what planet that this looks as good as far cry 2. The game looked like shit and the developers compltely oversold and underdelivered with what was promised. The game simply isn't fun to play at all.

It's almost exactly like the old computer games from the pentium 3 days. Very complex game, so there are bugs in it. Once you get past that, it's a great game. I'm a big fan of realistic games though, and this is one of the good ones. spend a week with the game before denying it.

I hear that it's very good if played as as a co-op game with your buddies though, so I have some high hopes. This's not run-and-gun, so my friend with bad eyes can play it with me.

It's clocking in at just below 80% on metacritic; I think it's worth a purchase with TRU's buy 2, get 1 free deal.

"Nearly all of the problems though, and particularly the ones relating to squad orders, disappear when you're playing co-operatively; co-op makes Dragon Rising a delight.

The entire campaign can be played through with the entire squad of four being controlled by players. The squad leader issues optional commands, but with headsets on, the game becomes much more fun and fluid. Frankly, there's probably far more fun to be had here just finding three friends and playing the entire game through that way. "

The graphics are very monochromatic, which doesn't look good, and I am disappointed that there isn't any weapon customization.

People are being way to hard on this game, and are bashing it for what it isn't, and not enjoying it for what it is. And I have no idea where a lot of you are getting that "buggy mess" complaint from. I have this on the PS3, and I haven't run into any glitches - online is very laggy though.

I sent joystiq the info about how full the forums were of people (including myself) that believed CM straight out lied about the game... my original thread (which i can't read now except through proxy since i'm banned) can be found at the following link on the CM forums...

http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=387193

Yes... developers lie... but never has it been to the magnitude about lying about features being in a game that were in the original and now weren't... no other company has ever had to lie about its game even coming close to its original in terms of both content and features...

the boundaries (AO) are up in the game because they didn't spend time on content... not just campaign wise but in terms of populating the map with enemies, towns, bases, the "ongoing war" they promised we could go help fight if we chose to "ignore our orders"... sure fail the mission... but don't cut us out of the gameplay... it goes against what they promise...

read the quotes at the link... if you want to read them over at xbox.com here's the link to the same quotes:
