Rumor: PS3 cross-game chat in next firmware update

Sure is, I hope they add voice messaging with it also.

so being able to party up with your friends via voice chat and being able to send voice messages. I really hope they put those all together.

I spent about an hour on the phone today playing Demon's Souls with a friend. THis will free up my phone time. Now I just need a better bluetooth headset.

I was concerned about the same thing w/party chat when it hit XBLive - we play Gears all the time - and yes, dead players can communicate enemy positions to live players - but since the other team can too everyone's on a level playing field.

Haven't messed w/the Uncharted 2 multiplayer yet, when you're dead can you free roam the camera around the map and see everyone?

I'm on Chapter 9 on the single player and I can't believe someone made a game this fun and this good looking.

As someone already said, it's still a level playing field since both teams can do it.

And I've noticed a lot less annoying draws in Gears since they added it. It was really annoying when the last 2 players waste all the match time just looking for each other.

The point isn't that you all sit in a party together playing separate single player games (though of course you could use it that way if you wanted to). The point is more that you log on and you see several friends playing other games, so you start up a party and then you're all talking together so you can say "hey guys, feel like jumping into a MP game of Uncharted 2 right now?".

Or if another friend jumps on he can just jump in the party and ask if there's room for him to join the game, etc.

Also, it works great in co-op games to keep the chat going since many games kill chat during loading screens.

Among many other uses.

This is big news if true, hopefully it's not just the direct 2-person chat though. Party chat is what we need here.

Im ready to bet Chris will say something about that on the next podcast. Something along the lines "The 360 has had it forever, I dunno what took sony this long to do it too"

This is true. I don't mind having people watch me play but I usually make it known that I need to focus on a boss fight, especially if I'm playing Demon's Souls as a Soldier.

Otherwise, I'm perfectly fine with showing people what strategies to use against certain enemies.

Ironically, everyone wears little headsets in Uncharted 2. Not sure why this one had to be 'shopped in.

Why in the world do you hate cross game chat? Too convenient?

I said this on another post......I hate it cause its nothing worse than being in a game with some friends who have people in the party with us that are playing a different game.....yelling and going on about basketball while I'm trying to shoot someone in the face is annoying....

thats pretty stupid, it sounds like you have really anoying friends that really doesnt have anything to do with the chat feature

their argument is "Its called Cross game chat, which means its cool to talk to each other even if we are in different games..."

Chris, why would use the feature when it would be annoying to use it?

You make it seem like you are required to be in a party with all your annoying friends whenever you have your system, even if you are playing a different game than your friends.

Use the feature when it's useful (e.g. moving with a group of friends between games that you are all playing together) and then don't use it when it would be not useful (e.g. playing your own game while your friends are playing other games).

I bet you would complain that cars are annoying because when you just want to get your mail, you have to drive your car for two second to get to your mailbox.
