TripleSpeedRunners take on Nintendo trio for charity
Harnessing the power of Nintendo franchises for charity, the folks at TripleSpeedRunners will be spending 48 hours this weekend speed-running through games from the Donkey Kong, Star Fox, and Kirby series. Live streaming of the event will be handled on the crew's website, with live commentary and chat available to cheer the players -- or jeer 'em if you're a player hater.
All proceeds from donations during the event will go to DC Outreach, an organization that provides worldwide support to families affected by Dyskeratosis Congenita. Last time TSR got together, it raised $1,140 for the DC charity, but we know with the full support of the Joystiq BioMass behind them we can help them double that. Right, folks?
The speed-runs kick off this Friday at 7PM ET sharp.

As they say:
Don't hate the player, hate the game.

What ever happened to Star Fox?? You think with the Wii Nintendo would want to get them out there... it seems the series just died? one of the many reasons i sold my Wii

I just want a new Donkey Kong Country for the Wii... :(
SoshiKitai @ Oct 14th 2009 3:13AM
It ain't dead. I would say it's dead once the new system comes out and it still didn't come out for the Wii.
It came out for the DS, early on, but it was still on the system. So Nintendo's late on it, they're usually late.

Nintendo seems to be ignoring a lot of potentially good games. Remember when Pit was announced for Brawl and everyone was hammering for a new Kid Icarus? Still no word if that'll ever happen...

It's a lack of internal development capacity. They don't want to farm out too many franchises anymore, i guess (Other M being a special case). Though there's rumblings that that's what Retro's working on.

I can't imagine any of these series would be too hard to speed-run.
Unless Kirby's Dream Course is included.
FJ 2036 @ Oct 14th 2009 2:35AM
YES! what happened to that series to :(..

6 hours for them to get 100% completion on Kirby Squeak Squad.
Kirby and the Amazing Mirror...might be hard to speed run, that game is long. Same with Kirby Super Star Ultra.

Um. Why won't they just join Extra Life this year? It's also a gaming marathon, and it is also happening this weekend.
den-69 @ Oct 14th 2009 6:46AM
Yeah how much you giving to them for charity Ben?
Yeah thought so...
Ben Gilbert @ Oct 14th 2009 7:01AM
If I gave to every single charity that we wrote about on our front page, I'd be giving out an awful lot of money on a pretty regular basis. The idea behind my comment was to say that us drawing attention to the charity should help raise more money. Sorry if you thought it was a directive or something! I'm strongly considering donating $5 just for you though, so you know.
Mr Khan @ Oct 14th 2009 8:38AM
Odd that they've chosen three franchises that Nintendo's been persistently ignoring as of late.
Liquid man @ Oct 14th 2009 10:37PM
but Kirby did have superstar ultra last year........
the other two however are just sitting there, unless Nintendo has them coming to 2010's E3 which would be awesome but highly doubtful......
FJ 2036 @ Oct 14th 2009 1:52PM
Nope... it was just you that failed. Learn to spell
