interesting. it does nothing for me. buttons on a platter is not like djing. Not into mash-ups and these techno type djs. when i think dj i think Roc Raider an Q-bert. This game is not a great arcade simulation of djing in the same way guitar hero is for guitaring. This is more for the hipster music scene. one turntable and and buttons on the platter just blow me away. have the creators ever really rocked a crowd before. They got some hip-hop artists for the token mash ups but you'd never hear this stuff in a self respecting hip hop club. Then again hip-hop is basically dead anyways so it hardly matters. But Daft Punk is a different genre of dj. It's for others but not for me. Plus playing this doesn't feel like when i dj'd.

Just because it's not truly like scratching doesn't mean it's not worth a look. Us Gran Turismo really like driving a car? Is COD really like shooting people? I think you get the idea.

And personally, I think they did the best they could with a game to simulate the real thing. I have a hard time believing you have ever even seen a turntable, yet Aline used one.

Don't even suggest that Guitar Hero is a "simulation for guitaring." That comparison alone tells me you have no idea what it feels like to play a guitar or for that matter, DJ.

You're talking turntablism and not DJing. Two very different things. And "techno" and hip hop are siblings -- no matter how much you hate that.

And I highly doubt you've ever had the conviction of Roc Raida (correct spelling) to have absolutely no social life so you can train day in and out on scratch techniques to even call yourself a turntablist. Token hipster scratch DJ.

@ddub,

Quit being absurd. Did you just want to tell joystiq that you've DJ'd before? Was that the point of your rambling? The fact that you think that Guitar Hero is a "great arcade simulation" of playing guitar suggests you've never been in the same room with a real guitar, let alone held one. No, it's a fucking terrible simulation... but it's not meant to BE a simulation, just like this isn't. They're fun arcade rhythm games. Make no mistake, Guitar Hero has more in common with DDR than it does actual guitar playing; and the same is true of DJ Hero.

Now if you'd like to sit on your high-horse and pontificate, you're more than welcome to. But I'll tell you what I told all of the guitar purists who can't stomach guitar hero. You sir have fun up there alone on your high-horse, the rest of us will be having fun down here with the game, because unlike you, we're not confused, we KNOW it's a rhythm game, made for fun, not a training sim. ;)

Damn, this looks and sounds awesome. I really want that Renegade Edition, but it's $200. And I've already spent enough on gaming this year and still have a ton more to buy. Maybe that's a good thing, though. My $200 will go to better publishers than Activision. I will still buy this when it's cheaper, though. We all know it will be. These games drop pretty quickly.

Why do people hate activision? someone answer this for me. From what I've seen they made a mint off of selling plastic guitars to idiots willing to buy 5 or 6 of them, they then turned that money around and gave us Modern Warfare. Now they have DJ hero hitting stores. Did they pee on your couch or something?

It's more of how Bobby Kotick treats his employees and company. I'm all for capitalism, but he takes it in a perverse direction. You don't have to agree with me and you're free to think how you want of the company, as am I. Respect my opinion and I'll respect yours.

Anyways, I have no interest in another CoD. I'm willing to admit it's a great franchise that garners a lot of critical praise, but I've played enough CoD in my day and enough FPS's. Time for some originality.

That's just the head of the company man, I'm sure the rest of them are decent people. That's like when the rest of the world hated americans because the bush administration was taking capitalism to perverse levels.

It has nothing to do with it being "cool". I like many things that are trashed because it's "cool" to trash it. I don't give a flying hoot what's "cool" or not "cool".

Kotick is good at what he does, which is making money, but he's still a grade A jackass. His comments paint an industry that loses all of its freedom of expression and creativity. That I do not want to support in any way, shape, or form. Sorry.

And Bush didn't take capitalism in a perverse direction. He abandoned capitalism. And that's the reason most of us more independent conservatives, or libertarians, jumped of that train before it crashed.

The reason:

"With respect to the franchises that don't have the potential to be EXPLOITED every year across every platform with clear sequel potential that can meet our objectives of over time becoming $100 million plus franchises, that's a strategy that has worked very well for us."

Straight from the mouth of Bobby Kotick.

People are hating Activision for the same reasons people hated EA last-gen. Music games are rapidly becoming the WWII games of this gen.

Look at last-gen. EA's 2015 developed the Medal of Honor series which was extremely popular. Then when the devs felt it they were being treated unfairly, they left. Those people partnered with Activision, formed Infinity Ward, and launched the Call of Duty brand.

Now do whatever swap EA with Activision, MoH with GH, Cod with RB, and IW with Harmonix. It's history repeating itself.

I would argue that starting a war based on falsehoods so that your company can build military compounds and charge the military $100 to do a load of wash is THE definition of perverse capitalism, but even if I'm wrong.... the analogy still stands. don't hate the company just because the boss is a selfish d-bag. just hate the d-bag. activision employs a lot of talented people

@space really? they needed the guitar hero money to make Modern warfare? Don't talk about stuff you don't know. It's actually more likely that some call of duty money made guitar hero (as an Activision brand) possible than the other way around.

And why is Activision being hated on? Because Activision (the corporate part) is trying to milk out every franchise they own. Without looking at the need for another game or the quality of the game that can be achieved in the time they want it to.

Ontopic:
Love daft punk, love justice but it sure as hell doesn't convince me to buy the game. I rather buy a cheap real dj set than this kind of stuff.

Well, a few years ago, Activision was a company that basically guaranteed innovation and excitement. It made great, original IPs like Guitar Hero, Call of Duty and the Tony Hawk series, as well as great licensed games like the Spider-Man games. Now Activision is known for raping those same franchises to absolute staleness and looking for the big bucks by screwing over many smaller, promising projects.

Activision had the original rights for both the newest Ghostbusters game and Brutal Legend, and they decided to scrap both projects because they thought they wouldn't be lucrative enough. Both projects found other companies to publish them, Atari for Ghostbusters and EA for Brutal Legend(ironic in that the opinion that people have about Activision now is the one they had for EA a few years ago...). Suddenly, both games start garnering a LOT of buzz as they near release, so what does Activision do? They sue the developers of both projects, claiming compensation for the original ownership. Classy. Of course, the courts called bulllshit on that, thank god, and we had two of the most fun games released this last year.

The part that pisses me off the most is that Activision doesn't need to sue anybody and can risk developing original ideas. After all, THEY OWN FUCKING WORLD OF WARCRAFT. That's a CONSTANT million-dollar income right there, they could fund their own space program if they wanted to(not literally, it's called a simile).

I'll give you not the best band ever, but they are very talented, and just awesome musicians. They put on the best live show I've ever seen, even if they aren't the best DJs out there.

Also, if you like 'loads of music', then you must like something else in the genre. Name some DJs you like, and that will obviously be superior to Daft Punk.

This is all, really, really dumb.

I don't know why Phizzy thinks he needs to share what music he hates with everybody and why Space needs to put down "machine-gun bass drums and or lightening quick arpeggios". It isn't as if electronic music doesn't have its fair share of clich’es.

Hardcore metal HAS become completely stagnant and derivative and pretentious, as Phizzy just proved. Metal musicians think they’re all creative and original, but for most, nothing could be further from the truth. If the genre doesn’t evolve, it’ll die a lame death and nobody but pale middle-aged metal heads will miss it.

Also, the hardcore metal growling/screming/cookie monster thing is a hilarious joke.

At the same time, I've heard a TON of dudes who spent about a summer learning how to scratch a record and put a "Hey, I'm DJ Douchebag" sticker on their backs. If, in terms of musicianship, those dudes think they deserve to have their names placed in the same sentence as dudes who play "machine-gun bass drums and or lightening quick arpeggios", they're fooling themselves. It took way more practice, way more natural ability to get where they're at than the average DJ.

Metallica are pretty shit too. All their songs last about 45 minutes and tend to sound the same. Would it shock you to hear that I like the Beatles? Gasp! They're not heavy metal bass explosion arpeggio clusterfuckers, as would be indicated by this brush you appear to have tarred me with.

I tried this last week at a gamestop in Philly and honestly, it was pretty boring to play after about 5 minutes. I'd consider buying the soundtrack's professional mixes on a CD or something, but I can't imagine paying over $100 to play this game.

Then again, it's probably still more fun than watching 9 out of 10 DJ shows, with basically the same results.
