I have been curious to see what people who have actually played the game have to say. This is exactly how I envisioned it being. Music cool, but gameplay boring. Im still curious to try it out formyself though!

I had an awesome time playing it last Sunday. Played the three song demo for about 2 hours, mastered Hard Mode but they had Expert locked :-\ Thats the only thing Im not sure on yet is if Expert will be hard enough to keep the life of the game going for me. A big selling point for me on this game also is the fact that someone can pick up my guitar hero controller and play with me while I play DJ Hero. I tried this feature at Gamestop and it works fairly well.

First thing Ima do after playing the game till my hands hurt is put teh game in soundtrack mode and record all the songs so I can listen to em on my MP3 player. Hopefully the crowd can be completely turned off.

Those commercials sucked, why are they only 16 seconds? I dont know what they expect people to take away from them, there wasnt enough time to get hyped about the music or the game. The 2nd one is especially bad, wtf was that?

Prestige edition will be $150 in 6 months at Best Buy, and the regular edition will be $60 at Target in 7. Just wait. BB now has a whole aisle dedicated to GH/RB big box bundles, and I'm sure they getting sick of it. Target has even less game space, so they keep 1-2 copies of the big box games in stock, at least in the months after release. So just be patient.

You're free to your opinion, even if it goes into conspiracy theory territory. I didn't support the war in Iraq. I also voted for Kerry in 2004 (another jackass) as a pissed off independent. Bush gave up capitalism in favor of bailing out banks, among other things. His free market "principles" were abandoned.

I never believed he was a true capitalist, though, unless it was him or buddies pulling in the cashola. At least I was ready for what Obama would give us, because Bush set him up perfectly. Politicians... sigh.

Anyways, back on the topic of Bobby Kotick, I can feel however I want to about him. He has some great employees, but I'm not going to support the hostile takeover of the industry and dumbing it down to only sequels. He's the man at the top, thus pulling in more than any of his employees. I won't be giving him my $60 and your posts won't make me or many of the other people who do not condone Kotick's actions.

Daft Punk is cool and all but where are the Prodigy and Chemical Brothers? They were just as influential and important to the dance-music scene in the 90s.

I'll buy this game when it gets cheaper. But my purchase will also be dependent on whether any of these guys make it in:

More Eminem and Jay Z
Boys Noize
Prodigy
Chemical Brothers

Dude Daft Punk is the best they are the kings of their genre. Even so that Kanye had to use samples of the song harder, better, faster, stronger to make his hit "Stronger" work. If any band or hip-hop group should be in this game it should be goralliz and MC FrontLot

The difference is that Daft Punk is still influential and important to this day. (I love Prodigy, but I know it doesn't compare to Daft Punk.)

I see what you mean Ashitaka. But I'm willing to go one step further (and prepare to get bashed by the Daft Punk fanboys) that the Prodigy were more important in the 90s. Their albums were HUGE, and really put electro/dance in the charts. Daft Punk only really hit huge status when One More Time came out. That song was drilled into my brain.

Anyways. Considering this is DJ Hero I would have liked to see alot more electro/dance artists in here. Daft Punk = good, Justice? please why did they get in here but millions of other artists didn't. They're good but not THAT good.

Daft Punk is the only reason I am getting this game. Sad to see how mainstream they are but oh well the more Daft Punk the better. I heard they're also doing the soundtrack for Tron 2. If that's true- I'll see that movie at midnight just to hear the music. I think it's great that Daft Punk are being featured in the ads rather than more lame rap.

THIS IS WHAT I DON'T GET. Seriously, I hate people like you or at least that think the way you do.
Like a band being widely known and recognised would somehow diminish their talent, their work and their music.

That one dude needs to relax. All I said was how it's weird they're in a video game now but I'm still happy, I am getting it, excited they're doing a soundtrack for a Disney movie, and even said "the more Daft Punk the better" So chill out. I am happy for them gaining more fans if that's what DJ Hero does. It's not about being popular somehow diminishing their talent- not at all. But sometimes when you like something and suddenly everyone else does it can make long-time fans worry they will change. But that's because our love is strong, mein freund.

Hey, I'm relaxed, I didn't mean to offend you. If I did, sorry about that.

It's just that some of my friends truly act like that: if a band/musician starts to make its way up the charts, they suddenly stop listening to it just because it's popular. I guess hating on the cool is the new cool.

They're still my friends but man, I hate that attitude.

Ok. A Few...points:

1. For the "DJ's" out there that seem to think this is "nothing" like what they do:

You are dead wrong, on several levels. So much so, that I am willing to bet that within 3 months, someone will have these things hooked into ableton live as performance controllers.

Unlike say, GH Guitar/Bass, on Hard and Expert there is a 1:1 correlation to what is being heard, what is happening on the xfader, directional scratches and the sample triggering scheme.

Sorry.

2. Complexity, actual gameplay

If you've never used the xfader on a dj mixer, this is going to be about 30% - 45% harder for you to play. For reasons likely to be related to actual DJ involvement with the production of this game, the crossfader works like real one and has almost zero resistance at the midpoint; it does NOT click into place or auto-center. You really have to "do" it and it will infuriate the hell out of the "gamers" because it requires doing it by "feel"...a very analog sensation.

The game is VERY UNREWARDING on "Easy"...like other games of this sort, if you are musically inclined it will be HARDER on easy than Medium+, mostly because it is too slow, and well, boring. It will be "off" and you will hate it :)

3. "Tracking"

Yes. Very nice. Unlike the IDIOTIC crap in the GH series where you know, they add an extra buttons for the *exact same notes* when a distortion section comes up (I mean...really...c'mon) DJH works like this: as the difficulty ramps up, the speed and frequency of what you have to do gets closer to 1:1. You can't really "see" this in the gameplay footage/screen stuff as much as you can in videos (or watching people playing IRL) of what is going on with the controller. Unlike (again) some of the GH "wtf"-ery we are used to, the tracking is logical, directly correlates and makes sense.

As for pricing...well it is pretty much on par isn't it with all the other "plastic instrument" games...$60 first party controller + $60 "next-gen" game MSRP.

I would recommend folks that have a doubt or two not related to the music (If you don't like the kind of music, there is nothing here for you...*shrug*) to go to Best Buy, set the thing on medium or hard and try it out...or get one of your pals from activision to let you mess with the full title. If you can :)

@ Kai Cherry Really really good points... however for the DJ comment there are different DJ's that this game not depicting like radio dj's and the ones who do wedding's and graduations who just hook up there laptop to speakers and just push play...

I am a radio DJ and we do not use turntables at all which makes me want to experience what it feels like to play this game and how the experience of using a turntable feels like and how the mixes sound mixed together.

Spencer: Exactly.

The "problem" with DJ Hero, from a purely technical standpoint is that it sort of mixes styles, so for say a purist 1200's-style DJ (and leave us face it, in this day and age, most of them that are performance dj's are using Serato, Traktor or Torq on the backend) it is a "perversion" of sorts, but for folks that basically do "live production" style mixing it isn't *nearly* as far as a leap...but for them, scratching is a very small part of what they do, but what is "classically" associated with a performance DJ.

I personally think it achieves a pretty good balance, tho if you aren't a fan of scratching, it might be a bit much. It is meant to be a game and not a "DJ Simulator" but my previous point still stands and DJs that actually touch the thing will reluctantly agree: it is a LOT more realistic than pressing 5 colored buttons to "simulate" chords.

The letter I got in the mail with Guitar Hero Van Halen said "We hope you have as much fun playing these games as we do making them."

Bobby Kotick said he wants to take all the fun out of making games.

Hmmmmmm.

I'm actually pretty surprised that DJ Hero looks really fun. I might consider getting it sometime after launch if I can find it cheap. Activision peripheral launches are terrible and overpriced.

To be honest, DJ Hero is a pretty poor emulation of DJing. Club DJs, mix DJs, mash up DJs, EQ DJs, entertainment company DJs, scratching DJs, battle DJs, duo DJs, VJs. DJ Hero doesn't emulate any of those categories particularly well. It's obvious by the fact that there's *buttons* on the platter for christ's sake.

But honestly, as a real DJ who fits into a couple of those categories myself, it doesn't bother me. If you look at Guitar Hero/Rock Band, it's the same thing. With guitar you replace frets with buttons and strings with a strummer. On drums you lack things like a hi-hat, the obvious bounce of a real set, and playing at varrying volumes. On vocals, you're just pitch matching, you're not actually singing and performing.

With DJ Hero, you emulate an idea of DJings, but you're not emulating DJing. If it's fun, then who the hell really cares right? Though at $120, I'm gonna wait this one out, lmao.

Yeah. I'm with this DJ goo fellow. It's not at all like real DJ'ing. I can relate, because f#cking a hooker in GTA IV and then running her over to get your cash back is NOTHING like the real thing. The proof is that you're pressing *buttons* instead of nipples or accelerator pedals. I mean, it's just so unsatisfying.

I'm not trying to sound like a Japan eliteist (sp?) or anything, but I think I'd still rather play beatmania III or beatmania IIDX over this. Maybe it's because I'm lucky enough to have an arcade near me that had an up to date IIDX machine, but I still think the game is superior to this. Although, DJ Hero's tracklist is pretty sweet.

Could they have come up with a better name though?

Hopefully GameStops will have. DJ Hero setup for people to try out like they did with GH. Spending that much money on a turntable for a game seems like a lot. Then again, I have over $400 worth of arcade sticks for 3 different systems so who am I kidding?
