Blur gets blocky in Lego Rock Band
Lego Rock Band is quickly becoming a who's who of famous musicians who don't mind having their hands rendered as cylindrical claws. But until recently, for a game called Rock Band, it's been heavy on the solo artists and suspiciously light on the actual bands. Queen will be brickified for the game, but the first musical combo to be fully shown in LEGO form is Blur, best known for that one song with all the "Woo-hoos" in it. Rolling Stone has the first footage of the band performing that song in-game. You might as well watch it, since the song's already stuck in your head now.

Didn't know Harry Potter was in Blur.

Apparently, so is ron weasley.
Discotheque @ Oct 15th 2009 1:15PM
WTF? Why is Lego Rock Band getting so many awesome people?
Iggy Pop
David Bowie
Blur
I'm starting to think I have to buy this game. If this means more Blur songs are on the way I'm in. Universal FTW!
Demaar @ Oct 15th 2009 7:04PM
They have the master version of There's no other way and a cover of Beetlebum in the store already, so this will make the third Blur song :)
Man, this is pretty awesome. I mean, I don't even care if you think I'm a hypocrite; THIS is the way you digitalise artists. Vaguely reminds you of the real deal without being creeped out.
romanticterror @ Oct 15th 2009 1:18PM
Also, Damien is in Gorillaz. Go figure.
Discotheque @ Oct 15th 2009 1:22PM
I would endorse a Damon-Albarn track pack whole-heartedly.
Featuring songs from Blur, The Gorillaz and "The Good, the Bad and the Queen".
Quina @ Oct 15th 2009 1:47PM
@Discotheque
If that means we get "Your Woman" I'm game. Hell, I'll get it even if it doesn't!
Riley @ Oct 15th 2009 6:07PM
speaking of which, isn't there supposed to be an eventual follow up album to GBQ? Paul Simonon said like 2 years ago they were in the process of recording it
Discotheque @ Oct 15th 2009 6:44PM
I was hoping there would be. But Albarn is busy with a new Gorillaz album and also that Chinese Opera he wrote last year. Not to mention the fact that he's rumored to be directing the London Olympics opening ceremony in 2012. Busy man.
Riley @ Oct 16th 2009 1:48AM
Yeah I know, but if it's already mostly recorded it could still be released :( maybe someday
Ryan @ Oct 15th 2009 1:19PM
Blur?
So we can play what, 2 of their songs?
"Song 2" irronically will be there.
Dirty @ Oct 15th 2009 1:21PM
Coffee and TV please.
Curtis @ Oct 15th 2009 1:28PM
Well, I do lie, and I am easy. Guess I am more excited about this than ever...
Shagittarius @ Oct 15th 2009 1:30PM
Does anyone actually recognize who blur is to begin with? You could put anything there and I think most people wouldn't know the difference.
MystileArmor @ Oct 15th 2009 1:39PM
Now I want Liam Gallagher in there too, so we can have a proper LEGO Britpop Battle. Dueling 2 little LEGO characters would be perfect.
MystileArmor @ Oct 15th 2009 1:40PM
Not sure why my comment ended up here...? But to steer it somewhat on topic, Damon Albarn and Liam Gallagher are arguably the most recognizable frontmen in British music today.
Markusdragon @ Oct 15th 2009 1:45PM
I'd just about recognise Graham Coxon, because he's the guy on the 'Missing' poster on the side of the dancing milk carton from the video for 'Coffee and TV'.
I THINK the minifigure on the far left is supposed to be him. Possibly.
Nicholas Muldoon @ Oct 15th 2009 1:56PM
Not everyone lives in the States, Shagittarius, in the UK Blur is pretty instantly recognizable with 26 singles in the Top 40 over a decade and 4 albums that have gone multi-platinum, I mean nearly every music game seems to require Nirvana and yet they had nowhere near the cultural impact of Oasis and Blur in the 90s in Europe.

"I mean nearly every music game seems to require Nirvana and yet they had nowhere near the cultural impact of Oasis and Blur in the 90s in Europe."
That statement can be reversed for the US. And since Harmonix is in the US (and I think Neversoft is too.) it'll probably stay that way. Sad, but true.
MystileArmor @ Oct 15th 2009 3:11PM
Best of both worlds?

I want a Pentium II now.
VaultBoy @ Oct 15th 2009 4:06PM
Why is it that when GH uses likenesses in any fashion its an automatic foul, but when RB does it with legos its perfectly legit? Im not getting it.
Discotheque @ Oct 15th 2009 4:19PM
The Rock Band vs. Guitar Hero debate is over. It's clear that every year they will be emulating each-other in some shape or form.
Old argument. Activision will always be more evil...er though.
captainprotonx @ Oct 15th 2009 4:20PM
Are you talking about the Kirk Cobain fiasco?
He's music's Jesus Christ. He died for our sins. He's too sacred.
GH6 will be patched to remove holy images.
VaultBoy @ Oct 15th 2009 4:26PM
Don't even joke about that. Kurt Cobain was a giant douche, and although I don't agree with having ppl virtually perform other ppls songs when they are dead and can't say anything about it. I'm not even religious, its just bad taste to equate a whiny self-indulgent full-of-shit heroin addict with the icon of one of the worlds leading religions. Kurt is more like L Ron Hubbard, got a lot of ppl to believe his bullshit and now hes dead and cannot admit he was making the whole thing up.
VaultBoy @ Oct 15th 2009 4:36PM
To finish the first thought, I thought that the Kurt Cobain thing was blown way out of proportion. As a matter of fact I don't have a problem with the Lego RB renditions either. Making Ozzy Osbourne sing Coldplay is as hilarious as it is sacrilegious.
Spike (GT: SitriStahl) @ Oct 15th 2009 4:43PM
could be that freddie mercury won't be singing a cannibal corpse song, and will most likely stay to his own songs, since HMX actually cares about the musicians, but then again, they are legos

Best....idea....ever!

Ughhhh god, stop fucking ruining lego, please.
drew @ Oct 16th 2009 12:24AM
I like how the featured artists are actually flesh colored versus the traditional yellow color legos are. Kinda funny.
Dreganfyre @ Oct 16th 2009 9:00AM
I think they do that with all Lego these days. As in, even the real life ones.
drew @ Oct 16th 2009 8:31PM
Oh really?
Then why aren't just all of them flesh colored then?
bm @ Oct 17th 2009 6:39AM
No they don't. They're still yellow, as they should be.
IHateBioshock @ Oct 16th 2009 5:01AM
Only in the US are they best known for that 'whoo hoo' song.. here in the UK, they are known for a string of very good albums and stunning live shows. And having spent an evening with Blur after a gig (in a bar not 'like that') can confirm they are all top blokes (apart from Alex who is a bit up himself) Damon is cool as fuck, and something of a genius.
Shame I can't stand all this fkin rockband/guitar hero shite that is put out constantly but good to see blur getting some PR.
Matthew Perry @ Oct 16th 2009 8:50AM
Ugh, what a waste. While I'm not particularly a Blur fan, I'm upset that all these artists are being featured in a game where they look like Legos. Why didn't they make Bowie a character in GH5, where it would ACTUALLY be David Bowie and not a Lego piece?
partner @ Oct 17th 2009 2:42PM
It gets worse. I have heard that there are games where they made the characters from Star Wars and Indiana Jones into Legos, and even Batman - BATMAN!!!
Is nothing sacred?
drew @ Oct 16th 2009 8:27PM
Oh really?
Then why aren't just all of them flesh colored then?
partner @ Oct 17th 2009 2:49PM
The real question is: why aren't they the plastic yellow Lego color that Lego people normally are?
