Borderlands gameplay ad flaunts art style
With five days to go until launch, the game's success is one of the bigger question marks this holiday season. Thankfully, for Borderlands' sake, so many big games have left the arena that a new IP (no, not internet protocol) just might stand a better-than-average chance in the marketplace. At the very least, the box art is sure to grab attention on retail shelves. Go on, Claptrap, we believe in you.

Holy shit. I always associated that song with Borderlands in my head for some reason. It's like they read my mind.
NickAVV @ Oct 15th 2009 7:10PM
Or maybe it's because they've used it in their ads before.. >.<
lol, it's still a good song, and a beautiful game.
Sly @ Oct 15th 2009 7:22PM
yeah, i freaked out the first time i heard it in their ads. it fits the game perfectly.
Riley @ Oct 15th 2009 7:09PM
I think this may be one of the best video game commercials of all time
CzAr @ Oct 15th 2009 8:08PM
Of all time!
Saihna @ Oct 15th 2009 9:57PM
Yo, yo, I'mma let you finish but....
Rob @ Oct 15th 2009 7:11PM
Its amazing how much of the hype im buy'n. I really cant wait to play. Looks so damn fun
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Oct 15th 2009 7:11PM
That robot voice at the end sounds really familiar. Like it could be the voice for any number of talking robot toys from the 90s.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Oct 15th 2009 7:19PM
Autobots, Roll Out!
TheBrainninja @ Oct 15th 2009 8:12PM
It sounded like Gir, to me.
drumwiz86 @ Oct 15th 2009 11:21PM
sounded like someone from reboot...not sure who, but that's just what hit me
shadowhowl1900 @ Oct 15th 2009 7:12PM
id give it a go if it gets decent reviews
HighFiveJesus @ Oct 15th 2009 9:28PM
think for yourself, boy!
Kevin Lowe @ Oct 15th 2009 7:13PM
Except that the splatter of image across the top is supposed to be his mock-blown-out brains. With the hand moved back down to the side, it just looks like paint. Hopefully that's just altered art for the wussier retailers.
That said, props for Cage The Elephant. Can't wait to see them in a couple weeks.
Jonathan @ Oct 15th 2009 7:17PM
Yeah, I really hope they stuck with the original cover. With the hand down, it loses almost all of its edge and coolness.
It was supposed to symbolize that the game will blow our minds.
RANDOM G [XBL: NYMZ777, PSN: NYMALICIOUS] @ Oct 15th 2009 7:32PM
Did you guys watch the trailer? He moves his hand up to his head.
reversecycology @ Oct 15th 2009 7:17PM
Man this is going to be fanstasmic for everyone. I can not wait a minute to get it on the lead platform, the Xbox 360.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Oct 15th 2009 7:19PM
Oh, you mean the PC?
Because every preview I've read says that the PC version has the best graphics and the inclusion of a development kit for it's users.
It's OK, I could see how you would be confused.
PCs tend to also break at times.
Dr. Bradwart [100% Reagan Conservative!] @ Oct 15th 2009 7:24PM
Sadly, my PC is more reliable than my 360.
PC versions are generally better. Why would a game for a console that had less RAM than the typical gaming PC did at the time of its launch be better?
Exemplar @ Oct 15th 2009 8:07PM
one trick ponies... end up as dogfood. your xbox fanboy act is getting stale boyoh, I think we're gonna have to put you down.
Nobledevil @ Oct 16th 2009 1:13AM
Dr. Bradwart:
As far as I've heard, if you set everything to be on par with a console, as in 720p and most (though not all) settings maxed, Borderlands just naturally looks better in a lot of ways, such as color depth. Usually a game is better on a PC that is bulked up a bit and everything turned up, but this time it seems to just outclass the concoles from the get go.
Which is why I'm getting it on PC. Nothing like a flat-out superior product to entice me into a purchase. And the possibilities of cool mods.
B3astofthe3ast @ Oct 15th 2009 7:19PM
I saw this on south park last night.
Faceman @ Oct 15th 2009 7:21PM
I'm still on the fence for this one.
Mr Mobius - the wandering artist @ Oct 15th 2009 7:24PM
Are you border-line about buying it?
adolson @ Oct 15th 2009 7:22PM
$39.96 for the PS3 or 360 version in Canada (check WalMart and FutureShop).
Day-one for me.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Oct 15th 2009 7:24PM
If this is true then EBgames will try to compete with this. Which is good for me.
They did the same thing with the launch of Batman: Arkham Asylum.
adolson @ Oct 15th 2009 7:26PM
It's definitely true. It's in the WalMart flyer and on the FutureShop website. I tipped Joystiq but they didn't post it yet.
Wardo @ Oct 15th 2009 7:28PM
If it's true, I'll definitely have to pick it up now!
finnith @ Oct 15th 2009 7:55PM
This trend of cheaper games in Canada (first Batman: AA, now this) is one that should be continued. Most new games go for $70 here, which is $90 when taxes are included.
Mr Mobius - the wandering artist @ Oct 15th 2009 7:25PM
Urgh. Terrible ad. Too much gameplay footage in the ad.
Exemplar @ Oct 15th 2009 8:03PM
Urgh. Terrible comment. Too much idiocy in the comment.
Jimbodawg @ Oct 15th 2009 8:25PM
Ughh. Terrible reply. Too much laughter ruined my keyboard.
BigD145 @ Oct 15th 2009 8:26PM
I see what you did there, Mobius.
Mr Mobius - the wandering artist @ Oct 15th 2009 10:41PM
err... maybe I should have added [/sarcasm] as Joystiq apparently can't distinguish proper trolling from spoof trolling.
MRLN (The Comment God) @ Oct 16th 2009 1:13AM
Nope, I definitely couldn't tell sarcasm from that.
I was going to add constructive criticism, but it sounded condescending, and even comment gods should avoid that tone.
fred @ Oct 16th 2009 7:33AM
I actually got it but I voted you down cause I like to follow trends. I'm so sorry.
Wardo @ Oct 15th 2009 7:27PM
Since I'm tight on cash, I'll have to see some reviews before picking this up.
iJames99 @ Oct 15th 2009 7:33PM
Why is the box art different in the ad?
Sly @ Oct 15th 2009 7:36PM
wow, i just now noticed that. it had better be the one that we've known for a while, and not the one in the ad.
johnny @ Oct 15th 2009 7:39PM
they probably had to change it because of society and their morals. why cant we all be free and have no censorship, damn christians
Quiggy @ Oct 15th 2009 8:02PM
It's not. Watch the whole thing and you'll see the dude put his hand up to the side of his head to blow his brains out, just like the original boxart (unless you're referring to something else that I'm missing).
Oh, and johnny? Completely uncalled for attack much?
iJames99 @ Oct 15th 2009 8:29PM
Ohhh. Should've actually watched it before commenting.
Sly @ Oct 15th 2009 9:02PM
heck, i watched the ad before i said that, and i didn't even notice. haha.
Bubbameister33 (Confused by Fanboyism) @ Oct 15th 2009 7:51PM
More like Bonerlands! Day one purchase.
FrodoT-Baggins @ Oct 15th 2009 8:13PM
Claptrap?...sounds like a term for a hot girl with clamidia.
LameDuck @ Oct 15th 2009 8:31PM
Om nom nom nom nom nom... :3~
Reddrive @ Oct 15th 2009 8:39PM
I have been pumped for this game for a while now. I have my copy paid for.
Quick question, anyone else seeing ads that say 10.21.09?
ripslymemc @ Oct 15th 2009 8:50PM
wow, I was gonna come in here and bitch about how they changed the box art. (the still in the video didn't the guy holding his hand-gun) and then at the end of the video it was there, and it was even animated. this ad is so sick.
TriviumSuffocationTheBlackDahliaMurderLambOfGod @ Oct 15th 2009 9:05PM
Thank god they changed the original artstyle. It looked like any other boring and generic FPS. Now it looks clean, original, and the fun graphics match the fun look of the gameplay. I can't wait to pick up my copy of Borderlands on the 20th.
Liquid man @ Oct 15th 2009 9:31PM
awww yeah! I can't wait to try out all of the bazillions of guns they mentioned
Day-one buy for me
