Remember when Valve announced that the
Left 4 Dead 2 demo would launch
on October 27th? It turns out that date is actually the early access date for those who pre-order the game on Xbox 360 or PC (via Steam). Starting November 3rd, the demo will be available to all PC players and Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Xbox Live Silver members, as usual, will have to wait an additional week to demo the game on November 10th. Then again, if you only have a Silver account, you probably aren't too excited for a predominantly multiplayer game anyway.
The
Left 4 Dead 2 demo will allow up to four players the opportunity to survive "The Parish" campaign. The PC version will be playable online or through a local network, while the Xbox version will feature the same options -- plus two-player split screen. Valve notes that the demo includes "all the new boss infected zombies and all the new melee weapons." So, please, do yourself a favor: grab a
katana and start
cutting fools down.

"Then again, if you only have a Silver account, you probably aren't too excited for an exclusively multiplayer shooter, anyway."
Is there still local co-op in the game?
uncle jesse @ Oct 15th 2009 12:47PM
"...the Xbox version features the same options plus two-player split screen."
Sounds like it.

I don't care about all the BS surrounding this game. I seriously cannot wait to play it and I'm looking forward to this game more than any other this year.
roger @ Oct 15th 2009 2:16PM
I had it on preorder but after viewing the videos I just don't see enough to make it that much different from last years game. I changed mine over to AC2 since that looks like an amazing jump over the first one. That's not to say I wont play L4D2 since I have it on my Gamefly Q, I just do not see it worth an extra $60 especially since any DLC would have to be paid for and not free like on the PC. Sorry Valve but I don't have a PC to play and unless we get the DLC for free than I just won't give you my $60, I know MS is really the culprit but in this instance you're guilty by association.
Chalky @ Oct 16th 2009 9:55PM
Wow roger, you know this isn't DLC right?
It's a whole new game, with new characters, new levels, new engine, new weapons, new enemies, etc etc.
I don't see why a large product like this wouldn't cost as much as it does.
That said, I won't be getting L4D2 right away... too many games, not enough money.
We'll see when I get the chance, maybe when there's a sale on steam.
BlaqueBeird @ Oct 17th 2009 1:20AM
It's still the Source engine. But all new content and coolness.
Dr.House @ Oct 15th 2009 12:48PM
Should of put a banjo in the game as a melee weapon. Guitar is ok :/

Man, I totally agree - IBM basically had a monopoly, thanks in part to their System/360. Thankfully Apple and Microsoft came along to put Big Brother in its place!

suppose I should go ahead and pre-order on Steam then....as much as everyone loved the first one I'm excited to get my hands on the second
johnnynumber5 @ Oct 15th 2009 1:28PM
In my opinion the game felt more like a Half Life 2 expansion/mod than a full retail game. It was fun but it wasn't worth anywhere near $60 imo. Hopefully the second one has more to it than the first one did ... otherwise it should have just been added as DLC to the first game.
JXCgunrunna @ Oct 15th 2009 1:44PM
It really depends on who you know that plays it. I have 4 copies of the first one and we(brothers and friends) all play at my house and its a lot of fun. On the other hand i was the only person i knew who had it on the xbox and it was not as much fun cuz i normally got suck with people who were not good or just shot me a lot.
AsherR [Planeteer | Power of The Hoff] @ Oct 15th 2009 1:48PM
Oh you'll be playing L4D2 on PC Chris? Mind if I add you for when the game is released? Can never have too many people to battle the zombie apocalypse with.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Oct 15th 2009 4:26PM
yea Asher.add me on Steam.....
d889 @ Oct 15th 2009 5:51PM
i have to agree with johnny on this one ... the game just doesnt seem like a $60 game ... i mean the gameplay is decent but its still the aging source engine and basically relying on multiplayer only...
its almost like when they took over counter-strike and started charging for it .... anything for a buck i guess
Martin @ Oct 16th 2009 10:59AM
@d889 -- I suppose the game just isn't for you then. The whole point of the game is that it's pickup and play fun. The best part of it is playing with people you know and working as a team, as well as trash talking screw-ups.
TriviumSuffocationTheBlackDahliaMurderLambOfGod @ Oct 15th 2009 12:49PM
Gotta love those pre-order demos! Not.
I have it pre-ordered, though, so I'll definitely be checking it out come Oct. 27th. I'll definitely be buying L4D2 no matter what all the complainers say.
Geist @ Oct 15th 2009 1:30PM
Pre-order demos are good in my book. If you're willing to pay for the game early, then you should get an early shot at it.
Access Granted [No one can stop Mr. Domino!] @ Oct 15th 2009 12:51PM
I WILL preorder to kill zombies with the guitar early and save five bucks!!! w00t! w00t! :)

Oh and get that all star American Baseball bat! can't have l4d2 without some great American pastime. here bata bata bata! *woosh* homerun! =)
URM0MLIK3SME @ Oct 15th 2009 5:58PM
Do you know if we have to preorder it from A specific retailer to get the early access to the demo??
ballistic3188 @ Oct 15th 2009 12:53PM
awww was wanting to have the 8 player versus included. want to see how the new zombie control and how to strategize how to kill people.
Avatar @ Oct 17th 2009 1:26AM
That's the beauty of the PC version, you can set up a server to allow as many people as you want. Too bad there's no dev console for the 360.
Alex @ Oct 15th 2009 12:56PM
I love L4D and still play it all the time. I am really looking forward to L4D2 but have come to the realization for a lot of games that it is best to wait 6 months and get the game for half the price to make up for buying the DLC.
(won't be buying the next Gears or GTA on day one either)
uncle jesse @ Oct 15th 2009 1:24PM
I understand waiting to get a discount, too. But really, you can't be that excited for the game if you wait 6 months before you buy it.
johnnynumber5 @ Oct 15th 2009 1:31PM
There are a lot of games releasing in the next 6 months ... just because he is being frugal doesn't mean he isn't excited.
roger @ Oct 15th 2009 2:27PM
I know what you mean, heck with MW2 I can EASILY wait for either L4D2 to drop in price or for it to arrive from Gamefly, not to mention I'll have AC2 as well.
Alex @ Oct 15th 2009 3:37PM
I still play Left 4 Dead several times a week, so I can be patient. Regardless, I don't like how it is becoming "acceptable" for games to come out with $20-40 worth of DLC often quickly after the game is released, much less $40 of DLC for a $60 game that is often very short or obviously incomplete. I can wait and pay $60 and get all the DLC included (i.e. Gears of War 2, Game of the Year packs, etc) or wait several months and get the game for $30 to offset the DLC. Not everyone is a fanboy.
pat_boy2008 @ Oct 15th 2009 12:57PM
lol I still think of this http://i25.tinypic.com/2yowg2c.jpg every time I see that picture.
Erluti @ Oct 15th 2009 1:24PM
LOL @ pre-order demos.
Trying to convince those guys to buy it?
Geist @ Oct 15th 2009 1:33PM
Sounds more to me like they're trying to get others to pre-order. Hence the 'pre-order' bonus.
Arturo @ Oct 15th 2009 1:29PM
I already have both versions preordered yay can't wait! :)
AsherR [Planeteer | Power of The Hoff] @ Oct 15th 2009 1:44PM
Both versions? Dang man you must love some zombie killin'.
dark_inchworm (stronger than never, ever before) @ Oct 15th 2009 1:49PM
Hey, I have both versions of the original L4D. Then again, the PC version was a gift and the 360 version was marked down to 12.48...
Asmerom (PSN: neon6plz) (Steam: neon6669) @ Oct 15th 2009 1:33PM
D-d-d-damn! Another week to play the public demo. Well, atleast I should be grateful since they're releasing it at all.
ripslymemc @ Oct 15th 2009 1:30PM
australia got ownedddddddddddddd
Vcize @ Oct 15th 2009 2:01PM
Does it matter where we preorder it from on the 360? I don't see the words "Gamestop exclusive" in there any way so I'm imagining any preorder will do?
Not that it matters for me since I'm buying it day one anyway, but if it is the case that you can preorder anywhere Amazon doesn't charge for a game until they ship it, so you could preorder there to get the demo early and then just cancel your preorder.
Gripman @ Oct 15th 2009 2:02PM
CUT 'EM UP!
jrhawk42 @ Oct 15th 2009 2:03PM
demos are for people who haven't bought the game...
previews are for people that bought the game, and want a taste early.
I'm interested to see how increased melee combat changes gameplay in this series.
Preston @ Oct 15th 2009 2:05PM
Does anyone else get the the impression that the guy in the photo with the cricket bat is a lot like the Scout in TF2?
ducttapeBigSexy (PSN&XBL: ducttape12) @ Oct 15th 2009 2:53PM
Seriously, Joystiq, posting a screen shot like that? You guys are so racist! How about showing the zombies killing humans for once!
Johnny Neat @ Oct 15th 2009 3:48PM
I love the zombie genre when done right especially in movies like the Dawn of the Dead remake, 28 Days & Weeks Later series, but I always felt L4D could have been better and I hope L4D2 has that extra push I felt L4D was missing. It just feels to me a bit too outdated PC. Not that I'm hating on it as it's damn fun & like I've stated I love the whole zombie shooter thing, just saying that it never felt next gen or even as good as the shots they always show in third person.
So anyhow I have a quick question, Why can't we play this in a third person view like Gears or GTAIV? I would enjoy the game a bit better if it was like that as an option at the very least.
Octane @ Oct 15th 2009 6:50PM
Yes, you can on PC using the thirdpersonshoulder command. I don't know about the 360 version.
