Nintendo officially announces PokePark Wii

The game involves Pikachu competing and cooperating with other Pokemans in a sort of theme park through, according to Andriasang, "tag, battle, and quiz mini-games." The game emphasizes Pikachu's interactions with his new friends and includes a camera mode to allow you to photograph the Pokémon you meet.

Er....PokeWhat?
CheeziePotato [Has finally become a Super Saiyan] @ Oct 15th 2009 10:08AM
We want a Pokemon RPG on the Wii, not this crap.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Oct 15th 2009 10:35AM
To be fair, I was saying the same thing when they first announced World of Warcraft. "We want an RTS, not this MMO crap!"
I think we both know how wrong I was about that...
*logs onto WoW*
Rhamsey @ Oct 15th 2009 10:58AM
On the wii? Really? Friend codes are bad enough as it is now, imagine trying to play an mmo with them. I want it on the pc/360/ps3.
Rhamsey @ Oct 15th 2009 11:00AM
Sorry Cheezie, at first I thought you wrote MMORPG, my bad.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Oct 15th 2009 11:02AM
You seem to have completely misplaced the reason I said what I did.
I'm not saying an MMO should be on the Wii.
Re-read it.
Anthology @ Oct 15th 2009 11:09AM
A Pokemon Snap for the Wii would also be acceptable.
SoshiKitai @ Oct 15th 2009 11:14AM
If there's a Pokemon RPG, there's a good chance we'd expect a lot more from future titles of Pokemon - more than just new Pokemon to add to the list.
...and dear gawd, if we do that, we'll actually judge their games in a critical manner instead of just saying "It's Pokemon, what did you expect?"
Captain Planet [Planeteer | Power of Captain Planet] @ Oct 15th 2009 11:15AM
So it's Mario Party but with Pokemon?
Nintendo, you fucking suck.
rowd149 @ Oct 15th 2009 11:40AM
See, the thing about that is that by that time you'd already gotten several Warcraft RTS with the best graphics available at the time. We've gotten... No Pokemon console RPGs.
SoshiKitai @ Oct 15th 2009 11:44AM
"No Pokemon console RPGs."
You mean no GOOD Pokemon console RPGs.
The Pokemon XD games count as console RPGs, but they had SEVERAL THINGS MISSING that made it....... ehhhhhhhhhhhhh.
I enjoyed it, but then again, I didn't really expect much from it. :P
Platy @ Oct 15th 2009 6:49PM
People have to understand that if they release a pokemon rpg for wii with 3d graphics and mmo ideas of trading pokemon .... everyone in japan would die from starvation !
Harrie @ Oct 16th 2009 6:22PM
@Captain Planet
Pokémon is in the hands of Gamefreak, a 2nd party company
Never ever blame Nintendo for Pokémon games again
Gamefreak are the ones to blame for so few good and so many stupid Pokémon games
I wish they would stop making stupid Mystery Dungeon and other games and just focus on the main series
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 15th 2009 10:10AM
I guess even Pokemon's not safe from the shovelware bug. Disappointing to say the least.
SKI @ Oct 15th 2009 10:17AM
Pokemon has done this forever, Hey You, Pikachu! anyone?
mr nimblewick @ Oct 15th 2009 11:36AM
Kids like this sort of thing, and Pokemon is still geared towards kids, even though the first generation of gamers that played it are in their 20's now.
Mr Khan @ Oct 15th 2009 1:12PM
There's the early DS game, Pokemon Dash, too.
I wonder who's devving this. Is it Ambrella?
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Oct 15th 2009 5:03PM
holy shit I remember that game. He would never do anything no matter how much you yelled at him.
WINterfang ( Now with the power to piss you off ) @ Oct 15th 2009 10:12AM
I'm glad they are still releasing Dreamcast games.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Oct 15th 2009 10:37AM
You just made me imagine a true sequel to Jet Set Radio...
Damn you. I think I'm going to cry now.
WHY WONT THEY JUST....
WHY CANT THEY JUST...
Forget it.
mr nimblewick @ Oct 15th 2009 11:38AM
They won't release another one because the first two failed miserably? What kind of logic is that?
Reuben @ Oct 15th 2009 4:16PM
Jet Set Radio Future will always have a special place in my heart.
What totally kickass game.
Paul @ Oct 15th 2009 10:16AM
Thank God. I was just thinking that the Wii could use another collection of minigames.
Temidien @ Oct 15th 2009 10:38AM
This.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Oct 15th 2009 10:17AM
Pokemon RPG please...thanks....
Snowblind @ Oct 15th 2009 10:19AM
At the very least, the Pokemon here seem to have new models. The other games so far have been reusing the models from the N64 games or using the horrendous looking chibi ones.
But yeah, I've been waiting for a proper Wii RPG or at the very least a good update of the Stadium games. This is a little depressing.
Uncontrol @ Oct 15th 2009 10:33AM
i pretty much died when i was playing battle revolution and realized they were the same models from stadium
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Oct 15th 2009 10:42AM
That's like if Bungie were to release a Halo game using the same assets as the game before it, but instead you play as a 'different character'.
...Sh*t...
Snowblind @ Oct 15th 2009 10:58AM
Was that supposed to be a jab at ODST?
I fail to see how you can be comparing an *EXPANSION* pack for Halo 3 (a 2 year old game), to Nintendo recycling models from a decade old one.
nukee @ Oct 15th 2009 11:11AM
I'd hardly consider a $60 game an expansion.
Snowblind @ Oct 15th 2009 11:38AM
Full price and stand alone or not, it was still Halo 3: ODST.
It's not the same thing as releasing Wii games with N64 character models. That just shouldn't be acceptable, and like I said. I'm glad we finally have a more refined looking Charizard. His wings were literally flat in Battle Revolution, barley above being a sprite.
Zack11190 @ Oct 15th 2009 10:19AM
Oh for fuck sake! When will Nintendo realize that we want a console RPG? Not this crap! Pokemon Colosseum and Gale of Darkness were close to what we wanted, but not quite. Why don't they just remake Red and Blue for the Wii? That will please most people.
koehler83 @ Oct 15th 2009 10:35AM
They wouldn't be able to successfully exploit the consumer base by requiring two copies of the same game be sold.
Is that a screen of the game? It looks like a low quality PSP game. That's what qualifies as a first party Wii title now huh?
Zack11190 @ Oct 15th 2009 10:56AM
Well, there doesn't have to be two games. Just one will work. The only difference between Red and Blue was what Pokemon were in the game. They could just include the Pokemon in both games into a single remake.
koehler83 @ Oct 15th 2009 11:04AM
It's not about what you want, or what's necessary. You think they give a crap about progression? They've sold the same game in sets of two, what, like 12 times? The pokemon series is about milking the ignorant for financial gain.
Toasty Toaster Man @ Oct 15th 2009 3:55PM
They're called POCKET MONSTERS. Main entries will alway be on handhelds. As they should.
Babel @ Oct 15th 2009 10:31AM
Holy pandas, all I want is a console RPG that I can -
HEY, A BLUE CAR!
whylekat @ Oct 15th 2009 10:57AM
Wrong post? I'm sure you meant this "hilarity" for the previous post about ADD.
Rob S. @ Oct 15th 2009 11:04AM
HOLY SHIT! A BLUE CAR!
Babel @ Oct 15th 2009 12:06PM
Well, the opinion on the PokePark Wii was pretty much unanimous, so I just thought I'd incorporate the findings of the study a few posts back, along with a classic Simpsons quote. I didn't expect people to roll about laughing, I just thought a bit of gentle humour would be ok and permissible.
Clearly not :(
Uncontrol @ Oct 15th 2009 10:42AM
pokemon channel is the most hilarious pokemon game ever made
Mu93n @ Oct 15th 2009 10:47AM
i think we were getting a pokemon rpg for the SonMicroDo PlayWiiBox1400 somewhere in the year 2145 or so. at least thats what i heard..
JeezWhiz87 @ Oct 15th 2009 10:47AM
Give 'em a break guys. The originals for the game boy just came out 11 years ago, these things take time!
Rollins @ Oct 15th 2009 10:53AM
This isn't Pokemon Snap 2, guys.
WHERE'S MY POKEMON SNAP SEQUEL?
They -do- get how perfectly that would work on the Wii, right?
ZaxCG2 @ Oct 15th 2009 12:21PM
Pokemon Snap was fun...
This... isn't Pokemon Snap, though, is it?
bigrome @ Oct 15th 2009 5:20PM
Pokemon Snap Wii?
Bainge @ Oct 15th 2009 12:52PM
I have NEVER understood it. For years and years and years Nintendo has been sitting on an absolute gold mine and has never once acted upon it. We all sit and wait in E3 for a new IP that will blow us away when all Nintendo really needs to do is release a single player FULL Pokemon experience on a console.
Just start with the first 150 and create a whole 3D adventure on the Wii, hell you don't even need to change the battle system or really anything about the game. A straight up port of the original Gameboy version to Wii adding a few newer features (Clock, weather, etc) and you have an instant success. It would easily become one of the top selling Wii games, period, and provide a solid, long, single player RPG with substance. It would appeal to hardcore and casual alike. You throw in friend code trading and battling? Bam.
It has seemed like the obvious choice for so many years, and it's quite mind boggling that they still have yet to act on such an idea.
Dragod @ Oct 15th 2009 4:41PM
It is quite mind bottling.
clanboru15 @ Oct 15th 2009 5:31PM
See, it's very sad how you are looking forward to something that would be very basic and old. Would that game be improving upon or doing anything better than other adventure games?
Bainge @ Oct 16th 2009 4:31PM
Has the RPG formula ever really been drastically changed at all though? Has the RTS or FPS genre been drastically changed since it's conception for that matter? No. It's hit a point where it is really hard to "innovate" in the industry, but that doesn't mean you can't make good games rehashing old formulas.
I see it as just plain stupid on Nintendo's part, developers could spend years and years thinking and working to achieve an idea that they could develop into a hit that would sell in the millions, and Nintendo has been sitting on one for over 10 years they refuse to make.
