Rockstar supporting PSP digital distribution, announces PSN storefront

Rockstar is throwing some support behind PSP's digital distribution initiative and has added several titles in with today's PSN update, with more soon to follow. The initial offering included Manhunt 2 ($29.99), Midnight Club L.A. Remix ($19.99) and Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition ($19.99).
1UP reports that soon the entire Grand Theft Auto PSP line-up (including Chinatown Wars at launch) will make its way to the PSN, along with The Warriors and Beaterator. The publisher also plans to launch a Rockstar storefront on October 22, just to show it's as serious about supporting PSP digital distribution as a guy sticking a gun in your face and stealing your car.

Too bad their prices aren't serious. $20 for games that are years and years and years old?
I can see MC: LA being $20, but everything else should be $10.
Also love their prices for GTA:Chinatown and Beaterator - $40, new. $40 for a DS port and a port of a flash app...

You just can't please some people...
Sly @ Oct 16th 2009 12:23AM
it's not like you're being forced to buy them y'know.
Baroque_Ja @ Oct 16th 2009 1:06AM
If you think Beaterator is a port you are sadly misinformed. I have DAWs and plug-ins i've paid twice as much for that do a quarter of what beaterator does.
Levi @ Oct 16th 2009 1:18AM
Can you export your creations in Beaterator to mp3's or some native PMP-supported format?
Also dude, just buy these games on UMD. Or is Chinatown Wars not releasing on UMD? I can't imagine many of the $30+ games will be download only.

This boost of Rockstar support makes me feel like I own a PS2 again.
This is a good feeling. Very good.
Next up: Jak & Daxter coming to the PS3.
Get on it, Naughty Dog. It's not like you've been doing anything else lately.
Bobby Kotick 2: Echoes @ Oct 16th 2009 12:09AM
Uncharted 2

@Bobby
Would putting "/s" at the end of my comment help you see it was filled with sarcasm?

Probably...

if any PS2 franchise is coming to the PS3, it's sly cooper.

A new Sly game would be totally FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!

OMG! CONFIRMED BY SLY HIMSELF!!
Durden @ Oct 16th 2009 12:13AM
This is cool. I never got a chance to try any of the GTAs on PSP. Now that I think about it, the only games I own is GoW and Wipeout Pure. I feel like I wasted my money now :(
---I really hate when someone quits coop mode in Uncharted 2!!! (had to get that out sorry)
Kratos @ Oct 16th 2009 12:23AM
Cool, Rockstar is slowly supporting PlayStation again. The backstabbing probably won't heal anytime soon though.
dgknight500 @ Oct 16th 2009 12:28AM
If only Squeenix would take a hint from them...
CenturyMan1979 @ Oct 16th 2009 11:41AM
I know, they would be rolling in all the money they would make.
Dehshizknight @ Oct 16th 2009 12:28AM
Heck yes!
Leisure Larry @ Oct 16th 2009 12:46AM
The prices are shite, and are the reason I will NEVER buy the GO.
Love Sony but this is crap, $30 for a game I can get on eBay for $5 (?), and then RESELL when i'm done!?!?
I'll be keeping my old PSP and I'll keep picking up games in the bargain bin, until Microsft make their handheld...kidding, they'd probably cost more!
TriviumSuffocationTheBlackDahliaMurderLambOfGod @ Oct 16th 2009 12:54AM
I have to agree. $30 for Manhunt 2 is absurd.
I always thought digital distribution would be a lot more affordable, bother that Steam which has sales often, digital distribution is more expensive than getting a copy with a manual, art, etc. You can get these for less than $20/each.
Levi @ Oct 16th 2009 1:19AM
Chinatown Wars reminds me of GTA2, which was the title in the series that I had the most fun with.
And no, I don't mean Vice City...
Markez (attempting to call me less of a man because i knew so much about pans) @ Oct 16th 2009 2:00AM
Ive been playing GTA Chinatown Wars on the DS for quite awhile, it's a loooooooooong game. I keep making a point to play it during downtime, or while the gf is watching something and I only just got to 40% completed.

Hearing About the PSP Go Makes Me Sick... Yet I Still Want One... o.O

If only Square was this involved....
Otsego_Undead @ Oct 16th 2009 3:31AM
Why wouldn't they be all for supporting psp digital downloads? Their profit margin is significant with 100% less physical goods.
Matt @ Oct 16th 2009 9:18AM
Beaterator is already in the store, and has been for a couple weeks.
Monsterfood @ Oct 16th 2009 10:03AM
Warriors is one of the best games made! I hope they do this on xbox!
kenny goo @ Oct 17th 2009 2:26PM
Beaterator isn't a flash port. It actually has some pretty advanced production software in it for a very, very low price. FL Studio cost $100, and this is only $40. As for Chinatown Wars, I hardly think $40 for a higher resolution, better looking, better running, fit to PSP version of the best DS game there is all that much to ask for, especially considering they tried to sell Vice City Stories for $50 when it first came out.

While I'd like these prices to be lower, they're not *that* far out of line with what used (not new) UMD prices will cost you, which as always require the drive out there, the gas money, your time, and usually a higher taxation. Just putting things in perspective here.
