Though SouthPeak is keen to point out that its net revenues rose from last year by $7.2 million, the company's profits for the year remain firmly in the red, with a $12.1 million posted loss for the 2009 fiscal year ending June 30. SouthPeak's loss report comes confusingly paired with a 100% increase in units sold from fiscal year 2008 (from 1.2 to 2.4 million units) -- 2009's posted $12.1 net loss gets explained away by "approximately $12.5 million invested in game development and intellectual property for future title releases," among other things.
The report also allows "$1.6 million of expenses relating to the Gamecock acquisition," hopefully some of which went to paying Gamecock debt now owed by SouthPeak -- this on top of another $4.6 million or so for "charges relating to write-downs on software values and sequel right values to certain titles." Unsurprisingly, the publisher hopes that upcoming titles Two Worlds 2 and My Baby: First Steps, as well as a "highly-anticipated sequel to Dementium," will bolster its next fiscal year. We're just hoping the games the company does sell will actually garner some profit this time around.

Anybody play Dementium? It looked kinda intriguing since I'm into horror type games (playing Dead Space right now), but I'm a little wary of any FPSish type game on the DS just because of the wicked hand cramps I vividly remember from Metroid on the DS.

If you thought Metroid was bad, try playing Call of Duty 4. It's one of the best DS games out (gameplay, story, and control-wise), but my hands were crippled for days after. It's one of the reasons I haven't bought WaW for it (that and I'm waiting for it to drop to 19.99)

I didn't think it was bad, I actually thought it was remarkably well done. Hand cramps combined with the fact that I just can't get too into FPS on a handheld just had me put it down and never go back to it after awhile. For me, it just seems I can't get into some kinds of games on a portable.
I thought Metroid on the DS was a hell of an achievement, graphics were great and the controls worked like a dream, even the double tapping.

Dementuim was pretty bad.
Yeah, the graphics were good for a DS game, but the art direction was boring and the giant hospital, the location where you'll spend 99% of your time in the game, is filled with row after row of identical corridors. Plus, I remember the game having a broken save system. I don't remember how it was broken, but I remember it was broken all the same.
In regards to horror, the game is a soggy biscuit.

You know, I always wanted a sequel to one of my favorite movies.
It would have been called "Air Force One Two!"

SouthPeak, if you think you can fool gamers into buying something with the name 'Two Worlds' on it again, you're mistaken. The first game sits in bargain bins rotting.

I will definitely be picking up Dementium 2 in 2010. I really enjoyed the first one, even with itsa problems. A very solid horror entry on the DS. I also enjoyed Renegade Kid's Moon, although it was quite repetitive.
Also, I really, really, really want Edge of Twilight. If you guys haven't seen it yet, then ya'll should check out the trailers available for it. The voice work, the presentation, and everything else about it looks fantastic.
Two Worlds II? Why? No one will get suckered in a second time. Well, I wouldn't mind if they made the thing run and perform properly. The first game was a mess.

When 'My Baby: First Steps' is supposed to be one of your biggest selling games, you know you're in trouble...

I give them this: they did publish TimeGate's Section 8, which is actually a pretty good multiplayer online shooter. And if you look on their website, they also are the publishers for Trine (I am going to guess the retail boxed version?), which is also really fun to play.
I wanted to like Two Worlds, being an Oblivion fan and all, but it was kind of rough to play. Here is hoping they can fix the issues from that for TW2.
GFWL - Notice there is no annoucement of Velvet Assassin 2...

I kind of enjoyed Two Worlds. I played it during the slow gaming period of Jan/Feb 2008, I think.
