ESRB rates Shin Megami Tensei MMO for US
The ESRB website has posted a listing for Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine Online, an MMO where "players fight against or alongside demons in the post-apocalyptic (fictional) outskirts of Tokyo, Japan." The remainder of the description pretty much fits the MMO bill, as it mentions dungeon crawling, a multitude of weapons and spells, and real-time combat. The game sounds like it's a bit on the mature side, too -- the listing mentions arterial spray, pools of blood and female demons "scantily clad, hovering in bondage-style outfits, half-open blouses, or the tightest of short-shorts." Hey, underworld, get with the times! Short-shorts haven't been cool since the Nixon administration.

I'm pretty sure this is old news, considering I was playing the game over a month ago in English from the Aeria sight. But maybe it's just getting an ESRB rating now, is that normal?
Not a bad game, but a little dry.
Kamikit @ Oct 16th 2009 4:26AM
I was going to say the same thing. As far as i've known, it's been out for awhile in the US, and is Free-to-Play. I haven't bothered to play it though.
PN04 @ Oct 16th 2009 5:01AM
yeah unless they're making a Console version... old news

Wait a minute, it had Cave's logo on there. Is that the same Cave as in the bullet-hell shooters Cave?
djSyndrome916 @ Oct 16th 2009 8:14AM
The very same!
MRLN (The Comment God) @ Oct 16th 2009 4:46AM
Hmm... I like Persona. I should try this.
Filthy Assistant @ Oct 16th 2009 6:58AM
Don't. You'll be disappointed.
Chris @ Oct 16th 2009 7:28AM
I agree, it's more like the Digital Devil series than Persona.
James @ Oct 16th 2009 11:04AM
Imagine is not a bad game, but I think you have to be a fan of Megaten in general, and not just the Persona games. If all you've played is Persona then you might not realize just how different the styles of the other Megatens are. Give it a shot. It's free to play. But be ready for something very different from Persona.
If I didn't already play WoW, I probably would have given Imagine more time. But I'm a one-MMO kind of guy.
MRLN (The Comment God) @ Oct 16th 2009 3:11PM
Yeah, Persona and the rest of the Megami Tensei games, I should've said.
Most of the stuff is fan-translated ROMs, though...
Filthy Assistant @ Oct 17th 2009 1:20AM
Nah, man. I've played pretty much all the SMT games and Imagine is just bad, sorry. I'm a fan of SMT but not so much so that I don't realize the failures.
PyrosNine @ Oct 16th 2009 9:29AM
It's what I think they should use as the model for a Pokemon MMORPG, right down to paying for cool clothes and poketools, but being able to raise a Furret to become strong enough to chump Mewtwo is free.
LordBane999 @ Oct 22nd 2009 9:48PM
Yes this is nothing like persona, infact this is the closet we will get to of a sequel of the original series (the original series is blood, nudity and a hell alot of demonology), digital devil saga is like the next truest incarnation of it, after being originally blasted before for the series being too profane
emperorzeroxx @ Oct 16th 2009 11:47AM
cool, been waiting for an english release. I played this a while back and it was pretty good, not amazing but definitly good for a free to play. Must try for shin megami fans or atlus fans in general, considering there isn't many demon mmo's.
CH3BURASHKA @ Oct 16th 2009 12:07PM
Honestly, fuck MMO's. I'm guessing that unlike the new Star Wars MMO, this one basically won't have the number of people enthusiastic about SMT to make it a successful, or even a profitable MMO. I'd rather have them work on Persona 5 (coming soon for PS3/360?)
Alton Brown [ XBL: LordToastington] @ Oct 16th 2009 12:22PM
I'd rather have DDS 3 or a sequel to Nocturne.
MrWeatherby @ Oct 16th 2009 12:23PM
Uh, you don't need to worry. I'm surprised they is even a news update. Imagine has been out now for around a year, this isn't exactly what you would call a "new" game. Also the Persona games don't share the same development team. Don't get so worried over nothing.
MrWeatherby @ Oct 16th 2009 12:24PM
@Alton, did you finish Nocturne? Storywise it's pretty much impossble to make a second chapter to that.
Alton Brown [ XBL: LordToastington] @ Oct 16th 2009 12:30PM
Yeah, I finished it. Turns out they are making a sequel on the DS. It fits into SMT canon along with Nocturne and the two SNES games.
MrWeatherby @ Oct 16th 2009 12:49PM
Ooook? Where are you reading that because any time I look up "Nocturne sequel DS" on Google I'm turning up nothing. :\ Also SMT doesn't really have a solid "canon". Some games are connected like Persona and Devil Summoner, but stuff like Nocturne is sort of a small off-shoot.
Plus making a sequel to Nocturne would be kinda stupid.
MrWeatherby @ Oct 16th 2009 12:54PM
Oh wait, Nocturne is also SMT3, I keep forgetting that.
The Aquacharger (PSN:Elvenmonk) @ Oct 16th 2009 8:25PM
@Alton
How could they do a third to DDS? Everyone died at the end.
MrWeatherby @ Oct 16th 2009 12:20PM
It's too bad that Imagine is such a boring MMO to play. I love me some Megaten, but wow this game is bad.
Alexisonfire @ Oct 16th 2009 12:25PM
Wow. Joystiq. I mean.... Wow.
Not following the megaten games too closely I can understand. Their quite niche. But saying a game is "Announced" for North America when it has been released here for a few months?
Wow.

In further news, Obama is now the president.
