For those of you visiting BlogFaction.com in the past day or two, the news that the handful of GamePro-owned sites aggregated there (including GameGirl and GamePro Arcade) are being shuttered isn't exactly fresh. The closing of the "BlogFaction" branded sites comes just weeks after the announcement of new leadership under ex-1UP/WhatTheyPlay owner John Davison. Joystiq spoke with Davison this afternoon about the change and confirmed that while the sites will remain online, they will no longer receive any updates.
"We've invited all the BlogFaction contributors to pitch stories to GamePro," Davison told us. "A lot of my emphasis is going to be on building up online and really trying to think of GamePro as 'GamePro, the brand,' not just 'GamePro, the magazine' ... I started last week and the charge I was given was to help reboot GamePro as a brand." He explained that the reasoning behind discontinuing updates to the BlogFaction sites is to refocus effort on GamePro.com, and his next focus is on delineating between GP content that works online versus that which works in print. He left us with the hint that we'll hopefully be seeing the fruits of his labor by early next year.

I've never heard of blog faction. I've heard of GamePro the magazine, but I don't remember ever being to their website.
I liked John Davison on the 1up podcasts. I never really went to whattheyplay.com, but maybe I'll have to go to gamepro.com sometime.

Being a member of GamePro's forums, I was rather surprised when this happened. I liked some of hte blog faction sites, like GP Arcade and SLobs of Gaming. They had a lot of contests for prizes, and it was funny. I will miss them, lol.
I didn't care for Game Girl though. lol, I found them too chilche. But when one of them cosplayed as Cammy, it was actually good, lol.

Never heard of or visited blogfaction...
I remember reading my brother's gamepros as a kid though, I hope they find a way to stay afloat. Sad seeing all print media die... But hey I read this site so I guess I'm responsible too right? lol

I subscribed to Gamepro magazine when I read that John was coming on board. Maybe I didn't read that inital mews closely enough... Now it sounds like he's gonna be their online guy, not anyone to do with the print mag. Argh! Lol

I'm already subscribed to Game Informer.. probably going to let it lapse when it's over though. I don't feel like they use their own review scale. The vast majority of games they rate fall between 6 and 10 for them, not to mention the fact that they're owned by GameStop (which is probably why no games get less than a 6, heh! why would they want to say a game is crap if they're trying to sell those games to people?)
I'm probably going to subscribe to the new EGM when it comes out... give it about 6 months and see if it is good. :D
