I'd suggest a Great Hits-style price of $29.99. Many SFIV owners will want this, but I also think they'd feel screwed paying more than $40 for it. I'm one of those people. I love SFIV, but the copy I paid $60 not so long ago will be 100% worthless once I get SSFIV.

If your copy of SFIV would be worthless to you, wouldn't it make sense to trade it in or sell it and put that money/credit towards SSIV?

What's the current trade-in value for SFIV? I'm sure you could easily get at least $10 for it somewhere out there, which puts you at exactly the price point you're looking for.

I've also heard that they want to do something extra for SFIV owners. Depending on what that is, that may or may not be worth around $10 to you also.

Yea if i could trade in my SF4 game and get this for $20 I would buy it. Not paying any more than that for a few new characters and "balance" that should have been there to begin with.

When SSFIV comes out the trade price for SFIV is going to be dropped considerably, probably to a point where its not even worth trading in anymore. Thats usually how gamestop does things, especially when the newer version is better than the original.

I agree they should let us trade in sf4 for ssf4 for 20$ because for 8 new char and 1 new online mode can be added as a DLC. I don't get how they don't do that instead, they rather rip our 40$ off for ssf4 and throw our 60$ sf4 game away.

I'd say it's worth it. Revamped online, new UCs, eight new characters. It's kind of like Persona 3: FES. Expanded content at a slightly more friendly price.

8 new characters, new stages, re-balances, online improvements, and unnamed other goodies little content? I think not good sir. The new Blazblue though so far looks like it's adding next to nothing. New story campaign and 2 new characters for that one so far. Oh well, I'll probably end up getting both.

Though I agree with you, those constant revamps from back when were always at the arcade.
I think this is the first time it's happen so rapidly on consoles.

Huh? Only the Arcades got revamped and not the consoles?

Just using Street Fighter II and the Super Nintendo as an example, there was:

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior
Street Fighter II: Champion Edition
Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers

There were constant rapid console revamps -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Street_Fighter_games

"8 new characters, new stages, re-balances, online improvements, and unnamed other goodies little content?"

Re-balances and online improvements: These obviously imply that there is something *wrong* with the current online and balancing in the current iteration, and therefore should be handed out *free* to all SFIV owners as a *patch.* Period.

Eight new characters: SFIV has what... 20 characters? So you're getting a %40 increase in characters. *Obviously* should be DLC. A couple characters were even admitted to be planned for SFIV, but were held back. Gee, I wonder why.

New stages: How many new stages? I guess this is the secret variable. Better be a lot.

Personally, I'm not really into SFIV, but my concern is more about general trends in game updates/distribution/marketing/pricing. I just really don't understand why people are actually arguing *for* this to be released as an entirely "new" game, even at a $40-50 price point. Someone please explain the logic about how that's actually *better* for the consumer than having it be DLC at the obviously more appropriate price point of maybe $20. Hell, even the Fallout 3 expansions total $40, come as DLC, and they add a significantly larger percentage to the overall game relative to SSFIV, probably took a lot more time to develop, and probably require more disc space than the additions in SSFIV.

Oh, and on top of all that, making it a separate game and not DLC means it's INCOMPATIBLE with the current version, which I would consider a HUGE negative.

I can't understand HOW you can consider 8 new characters being DLC. That's NEARLY half the current roster of an upgrade. And no online game is perfect, so making it better is a good thing. That doesn't make the current SFIV broken in any way. And rebalancing ALWAYS happens in fighting games. Name one fighting game where the next one wasn't rebalanced in some way, you can't. My guess is you're not a fighting game fan, so you'll never really understand what level of detail actually goes into these games. Capcom isn't the only company that does it. We are getting a new Blazblue next year too. And if SNK doesn't tank (again) then we'll get another KoF too. So, you're not a fighting game fan, that's fine, but don't try to justify your point on a game genre you don't understand.

Oh, and I bought all the Fallout 3 DLC it totals $50, lol. And you want to talk about relativity, well here's some perspective. It takes about 15 hours to get through all the DLC in Fallout 3. Let's say you want to master one new character in SSFIV, that can take upwards of 50 hours. Of course, tourney players spend a lot longer on a character to learn them. So we'll range it down to about 10 hours for just the average SF Joe who's just interested in a basic understanding. 8 new characters at 10 hours of learning each is far more than Fallout DLC will give you. But again, it's all relative if you prefer FPS games then that's fine too. But fighting game fans understand what value they get, everyone else may see it as a rip off. Just like I see the new Madden game every year to be a rip off, simply put, it's because I just don't understand them. I'll admit it.

There's no way in hell they could have made ODST out of DLC for Halo 3.

Also, they've said several times that SSFIV will contain tweaks to the core engine itself, beyond what they could do to DLC. Not to mention stuff like MP lobbies, etc that are also likely beyond the realm of DLC.

Also, 8 fighters is about what some entire games have, and those are just the new ones.

I know basic skills of quantification, and I could really give fuck-all about SFIV *OR* ODST (in fact, I've never once even played a Halo game *gasp*). As I said in my first post: "I'm not really into SFIV, but my concern is more about general trends in game updates/distribution/marketing/pricing."

And while acefondu at least gave a reasoned explanation of his perception of SSFIV's added value, my main issue still hasn't been addressed, namely: "Someone please explain the logic about how that's actually *better* for the consumer than having it be DLC at the obviously more appropriate price point of maybe $20." Basically, tell me why, as a consumer, Capcom's position is worth defending.

Hell, I'll even grant a DLC price of $30 or $40, if the added value is as much as acefondue believes, but to make it another game, incompatible with the first, with network and balancing fixes that should be a free patch, is simply exploitative. And when Warhawk or Burnout Paradise can be offered as purely downloadable titles, don't tell me that the "Super" in SSFIV is just too big to be DLC.

You act like this is a new trend in fighting games. Regardless, we're getting a ton of new content for our $40. The eight (8!) new characters, new stages, and improved online play have already been mentioned, but the existing characters are getting fine-tuned as well, including new supers/ultras and other moves. I don't think your bitching is justified.

40 bucks for a DLC is worse imo since I would assume somethin' like SSF4 would take a good chunk of hdd space

I have heard that the new game will sport new abilities like if I am not mistaken, a different kind of focus attack that does multiple damage.

That would be hard to implemeted on the original game

I recall a book in which a boy lost his friend's football (by throwing it into a passing car, WTF?) and had to earn it back by removing slugs from his neighbors backyard for a cent a worm. I don't know why I thought of it, but it made me chuckle to think of him scooping out 4000 slugs, perhaps 4400 to take tax into account.

Well there's a PC version of the standard SF4 if you didn't know. You can pick it up on Steam or order a disc version for 20 bucks if you're lucky to find it at that price. Pretty good version, graphics are solid and very forgiving on a lower end system. I currently run it at 1280x1024 with most everything on low with a Geforce 8600GT, 2GB of ram and a 1.8ghz Opteron and get a solid 60fps. Sure, sacrificing graphical quality but oh well xD. I dunno if it works with Xbox 360 arcade sticks that they released.
