Mass Effect 2 stardated January 26, 2010

Captain's Log: Stardate: October 16, 2009. Electronic Arts has announced that Mass Effect 2, the next installment in BioWare's epic space opera, will jump to North American and European retail on January 26 and 29, 2010, respectively. The North American GameStop pre-order bonus will include:

Terminus Armor -- "Increasing run speed and personal shields, and augmenting weapons with an additional magazine of reserve ammo."
The M-90 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon -- "Generates a high-powered localized gravity well, accelerating particles to near-infinite mass."

Those who preorder from other retailers will receive the Inferno Armor, which gives Shephard "an increase in run speed and augmented damage from combat powers." And thus begins the Q1 2010 release bonanza ...

Yes, we realize the gun says "M88" even though it's supposed to be the "M-90 Blackstorm." Confusing things even more, one of EA's asset sites notes it as the "M-490," so let's just say it's "a gun" for now.

Ugh, I felt like I was reading a transcript of a CWC video for this blog post.

Holy shit I better start saving money for this now, totally did not expect it to come out so soon but I'm definitely happy it is!

A great chance for me to start up Mass Effect again so I can be prepped and ready for this to come out.

Can someone please confirm if the PC release will be at the same time as the 360 release this time, or will it be a 6 month delay as a third party company ports it to PC(like ME1)? I'm a PC Gamer and I hated that about ME1, and I wanna play ME2 bad! I heard ME2 would be simultaneous PC/360 release, but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere but wikipedia.

Fortunately, signs point towards a simultaneous release and this won't be ported out, Bioware is developing this for the PC as well.

They fucking better be since they are originally a PC developer, all these PC developers moving to the consoles, prioritizing them over the PC really depresses me.

It is great to see the game come out so early. I do have to wonder if EA has lost some faith in Dragon Age to carry the holiday.

It is simple by putting it out in January it means they are going to be spending Ad dollars and devoting previews straight through the holiday. If you have some one on the fence on picking up Dragon Age in December you will have a bunch of mind share devoted to Mass Effect 2.

i dunno about that armor though, yeah it looks cool, but it may be a bit much for mass effect

also, i'm not a fan of this in-game pre-order content. i'd rather they gave bonus disks (etc behind the scenes) or a mini graphic novel or whatever. like what they did with gears/halo 3 limited editions.

I'm getting the Dragon Age bonus content, the iPhone game content and now i wont have all the content because i wont buy 3 copies of ME2 on launch day from american retailers

i dont even know what content the UK is getting and no Special Edition :|

If you're worried about getting all the pre-orders you should just pre-order the game..then not go in and get it at the places you don't want to. It's like $5 for each. So if you REEEALLY want to get it all, you can. Then not go in for the rest.

Wow, that armor is totally amazing. I'm going to get suckered into pre-ordering Mass Effect 2. That's not a bad thing, though, as this game looks absolutely stellar.

Can't wait, haven't even finished ME1 yet, I'll finish it right before this comes out.

I hope the PC version will really come out the same time as the 360 version and also get a Collector's Edition unlike with ME1 where only the 360 version got it. Fuck, even the Platinum Hits version came with the extra DVD with the artwork, interviews, etc. and the PC got jack shit!

Interesting. Notice the box art? Or at least more particularly the white Xbox 360 label? There's no Only On Xbox 360 stamp on it. Gears of War had one even though it was to come out on PC. I'm thinking within a year, Mass Effect 2 will be coming to PlayStation 3. With all this crap popping up on the internet, and a Mass Effect 2 box art with no Xbox 360 Only stamp on it. Kinda makes ya wonder.
