Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker English voice cast announced

With fingers crossed, we turned to the latest Kojima Productions podcast, hoping beyond hope that the studio had taken our recommendation to refresh the voice of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker's bearded protagonist. Our nominee for Solid Snake's new pipes? Bobcat Goldthwait. Sure, Mr. Goldthwait would likely take the series in an unexpected direction -- but what unsuspecting player wouldn't be swept up in an exploration of Snake's rarely discussed history as a rabid, nigh-incomprehensible stand-up comic? Now there's a 90-minute cutscene we can get behind.

Alas, Konami's recently announced voice cast for Peace Walker is actually (gasp!) sans-Goldthwait. Of course David Hayter will reprise the role for, like, the hundredth time. Bobcat was the commencement speaker at my college this past year. His speech (http://www.hampshire.edu/news/multimedia.htm?video=45) was quite good, and as a bonus we got to be the first non-festival audience to see World's Greatest Dad (also quite good).

Damn it! Now I want to go rent a bunch of 90's movies, put on some leg warmers, stock up on Tab, and have a 90's marathon. Can one still find Hypercolor shirts anywhere?

Also, Steve Blum needs to retire for 10 years or so. He has NO range. His voice is so distinctive that it's completely jarring to the game's reality - it's just "Oh, it's Steve Blum again."

Could do without Tara Strong too, but she's better than Blum.

Steve's great as long as he's voicing Wolverine. But seriously, Fuck his version of Killer Croc. Fuck that noise to hell.

Tara Strong is okay. Not incredible, but at least she can act. I certainly wouldn't confuse Timmy Turner for Bubbles.

Grey DeLisle, on the other hand, is awful. She plays all of her roles almost identically. Find me the difference between her performances as Wubbzy (a male character) and Emily Elizabeth. I bet you can't.

How is Egoraptor not voicing Snake?

Snake- I'm talking about piss and shit, and you're talking about some cartoon no one gives a FUCK about!

I would have loved to replay MGS with the voices redone by all of those guys.

Haha, I loved Bobcat Goldthwait. I'll never forget his role in Scrooged. :)

Anyways, top notch voice talent like always. I'm glad they're putting so much effort into a portable Metal Gear.

Yeah. I'm not buying another MGS game until Bobcat gets a speaking role. He can sound menacing- haven't the devs seen Scrooged?

So is Huey going to be related to Otacon since he is being voiced by him?

MGS is one of the best game series ever. I'm going to buy a PSP just for Peace Walker. MGS 3 is one of the best too, but I still have love for MGS 4.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

I actually wish Egoraptor would voice Snake. David Hayter's voice just isn't what it used to be. Back in the day, on the PSX with MGS1, he was amazing. As the games go on, though, it just sounds like his voice is blown out from so many years of trying to sound so badass.

(And no, I'm not counting MGS4 since technically he was "Old Snake" and you could justify it that way. I'm talking mainly about his performance in Twin Snakes and MGS3.)

Has anyone noticied? Stangelove = Olga Gurlokovich ???

No one has really noticed that STRANGELOVE has the same voice actress as Olga Gurlokovick?? And they're both blonde and short haired. Damn...

Ugh. Steve Blum again. I wish that guy would take a vacation.
