More WiiWare games may get retail release
Nintendo Europe head Laurent Fischer notes that WiiWare is a good place for developers to get products "tested" before going to retail. Speaking with Develop, he says that using WiiWare as a "laboratory" will help developers "polish their software through the WiiWare experience. That is going to provide sales."
We're actually not aware of too many WiiWare titles that have made the transition to retail, but we can think of a few that might deserve the extra exposure. A Bit.Trip pack, anyone?

You know, as long as they're actually improving the games before their release, then I'm ok with this... but maybe keep it at around $30.

I wouldn't purchase anything on Wiiware right now, for the same reason I'm passing up a lot of PSN games. A complete lack of demos is just ridiculous.

Your loss.

That sucks for you. Meanwhile I'm going to play World of Goo....
CaramelZappa @ Oct 16th 2009 2:17AM
Well, the devs loss of my money. There's no reason to not provide demos when your content is digitally available like this.
CaramelZappa @ Oct 16th 2009 2:17AM
And I have world of goo, on pc. The PC version has a demo, too.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Oct 16th 2009 2:22AM
Rabble Rabble Rabble. I don't like stuff.

I agree it's absurd that demos aren't available. Nintendo likes to stay one generation behind on these things.
I don't know if it's worth boycotting the service over, since there are some solid games and fledgeling developers that deserve attention, but I feel your pain otherwise.
Nook @ Oct 16th 2009 8:23AM
I agree, how about timed downloads that only permit 30 minutes to an hour of playtime?
esposch @ Oct 16th 2009 8:17PM
I don't think it's fair boycotting the third party devs who make WiiWare because Nintendo don't provide demos.
Maybe don't buy a new Zelda game and say "this was from that money wasted on bad WiiWare." What am I saying, getting a Nintendo fanboy to boycott Zelda is like a grossly obese person saying they'll lose 200 pounds as their New Year's resolution.
CaramelZappa @ Oct 16th 2009 9:23PM
I'm not "boycotting" them. I'm simply not convinced I want to spend $10-$20 on a game with nothing but the title of the game and a small description, especially with absolutely no chance of a return. And no, I'm not going to make those blind purchases and not buy a zelda game that I know is going to be good, why on earth would I do that?
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Oct 16th 2009 2:08AM
Nintendo is doing it again.
They're going backwards while everyone else is going forwards.
...And it's going to sell millions...
DAMN THE CASUAL MARKET TO HELL!!!

A 12-hour LostWinds retail game? Yes please.
[ArchiGamer] [KNOWN TO CAUSE INSANITY IN LABORATORY RATS] @ Oct 16th 2009 2:18AM
If this means more time spent on quality on titles that already excelled as downloads, then this will be awesome news.
Mr Mobius - the wandering artist @ Oct 16th 2009 8:03AM
LostWinds (but not all the small games combined into 1, instead a completely new adventure) and also another NyxQuest/Ikarion game with a bit more level variety would be nice (for example have it so various legends combine as an excuse for different landscapes).
sam @ Oct 16th 2009 8:39AM
Yeah, but you know if they really did do that (LW retail game) it totally *would* be the little bits combined into one with some bonus content.
Personally, I'd like to see what happens in WiiWare stay in WiiWare. I really liked Groovin' Blocks and would have bought a WiiWare sequel for sure, but didn't buy the retail version. It's just not a retail kind of game.
I think WiiWare should definitely be useful as a 'training' kind of thing for developers who haven't worked on Wii before - if you can make a fantastic game on WiiWare then you're better set up for making full games. For example, Frontier obviously have great Wii experience with Lost Winds, now maybe they should make a full Wii game. :) Or just more WiiWare - that would be good too.
But I don't really think the actual WiiWare games themselves are generally suitable for retail. (With the exception of e.g. Telltale's episodic games, which are fine packaged together in retail.) 'Lit' was good for instance, but retail? Nope, game's done, good job, that was enough.

Cave Story plz
lobotomies4free @ Oct 16th 2009 5:12PM
hopefully they'll be enhanced and expanded versions, if not full sequels to take up the extra disc space and to reward those of us that bought it first time around
Zetro @ Oct 16th 2009 11:56AM
And i thought they said WiiWare shouldn't be seen as a dumping site... way to go Nintendo
S. Tiger @ Oct 16th 2009 3:20PM
The 360 is a dumping site for PS3 ports with more content.
Phil @ Oct 16th 2009 5:53PM
Was Sam and Max ever on Wiiware? I got Season one on disc and loved it.
I hope Season 2 as well as Monkey Island eventually make it onto disc. I'd also like to see Strongbads game on disc.
