"I obviously need to take care of my son. There is nothing that I have to do. This is really a free choice scene. If I want, I can just sit down or do nothing, or not take care of my son," Fondaumiere explains. Whether or not you choose to be a deadbeat dad, you'll have to deal with the repercussions. "Actions in Heavy Rain always have consequences. You can see consequences of your actions in two, three scenes after they occur. Some other consequences can be dramatic and completely change the story."

I got to play the father part at PAX and I saw no one else try it, so I felt instantly cool.
With only a few minutes of gameplay and videos under my belt, I sincerely hope that, if the concept remains fresh throughout the whole game, it starts a revolution in the adventure game genre, making advanced-QTE on the same popularity level as point-and-clicks.

David Cage and Quantic Dream will amaze people with Heavy Rain. I have no doubt about that. Heavy Rain looks like an absolutely emotional rollercoaster with true choice in your actions, thus leading to many ways a scene could play out. They have such deep character development, which will make everything more intense and personal.

I can't believe you. You obviously don't understand an immersive, emotional, and revolutionary game like Heavy Rain. I'm not trying to be mean, but dude, you sound so immature. Go play your Nazi Zombies, but come next year, authentic gamers worldwide will be enjoying a spectacular game: Heavy Rain.

Alright, up till now we were looking like this would be the game to finally drive me to pick up a ps3, but really? I have to stop playing as a girl in a strip club trying to survive to....play a demo of The Sims 5?
How is virtual babysitting supposed to be fun?
This game was looking bad ass but it just dropped a few pegs in my eyes. playing as a girl in a life or death sitatution stripping as she desperatly tries to think of an escape plan was a hell of a lot more imaginative then "oooo what should I feed my son."

Put more skill points into your reading comprehension attribute.. I said it was looking good, but this brought it down a few pegs. I never said it killed the whole game.
For me, games are about fun. I play games to have fun, and if im playing a game and stop having fun I tend to stop playing said game. Call me crazy, but thats the way I am.

This is what people like You FAIl aren't understanding. This is a DEMONSTRATION of what things you can do in the game. This type of gameplay will be used with action sequences, dramatic scenes, everything. It's a demo, not an overview of the whole game.

Alrighty, lettme break it down for the due-masses
I play games to have fun
I dont find virtual babysitting fun
Ergo, I dont find this part of the game fun
In which case the total value of fun that I percieve this game to have, at this point in time, has decreased.

Ok, fine. It didn't kill the whole game for you but I guess you won't have a PS3 to play it anyways. Also, I'm pretty sure this game isn't about fun.

Depends on your perception of fun, to me, it isn't about what I decide to feed my son, but how that will effect the plot, whether or not that interests you is down to you, and none of us have a right to tell you otherwise, but like I said, we all have different opinions in the word 'fun', its the same way that shooting at hordes of enemies on a screen bores me half to death after a while, and I could begin to think, why couldn't I just go and play paintball or airsoft, yeah, it costs, but its a hell of a lot more 'fun', or why am I wasting time on this here Forza playing around with digital cars when I could get a job in manufacturing vehicles and play around with real cars, may not be Ferrari Enzos, but the fact still reamins they are 'real' and more 'fun'.
It's an interactive game, it's not going to appeal to everyone, if you don't like the scene, skip through it as quickly as possible, if you don't like the game, stick to what you like best, but don't come up with the 'its like sims' thing, because I could say COD is 'like Halo', or Forza 'is like V-rally on PS1' of which I'd in both cases look the fool.

Oh I positively agree Saturn, that different people find different things fun. Thats a big part of human nature.
However, Kodros clearly stated more than once that this game isnt supposed to be fun. As in, its not that some people will find it fun, and some wont, its just that people are supposed to want to play it but not find it fun.
At least thats how I am interpreting it.Then again, I am a very literal person.

No one would want to play a game that isn't fun, obviously, however I don't think there's enough to go on here to make any sort of judgment like that. To be honest, the father part they showed did look boring as hell. But it was only a few minutes, and I can't imagine the bulk of Heavy Rain will be so mundane or seemingly boring. What I did see was cool graphics, atmosphere, sound, etc. I saw a control interface that looked innovative and neat.
To me it means a focus on (hopefully) good storytelling, you can't just always fly right into action or kickass parts of the game. There's a buildup, momentum and background that needs to be built up for an engaging story and experience. Can't argue, that part looked boring as hell but you certainly can't make a judgment on the game based on it, saying it has dropped a few pegs. I mean well you can and all, but whatever :P

Yeah I think you're being a bit too literal. Let's instead say that the game is meant to be entertainment, and to entertain people? Certainly they would never say that their game isn't meant to be entertaining, but for some convoluted reason perhaps they would say their game isn't meant to be fun.
For me, when it comes to videogames, entertaining / entertainment = fun.

I guess its what interests you, the good thing about this game is that unlike a movie or a book, you can determine the outcome (already pre-set, but for you, it's a whole new experience), these simulation bits may resemble Sims in a way, but unlike sims, it isn't made a monotonous continuous task to keep your son's happiness bar up, fulfill all his aspirations and get him a digital job, its all based upon you representing a father, how you would cope with your son, let him take control of you, or you take control of him, both effect the final outcome, could result in him getting kidnapped or not, or something else along the lines, all depends. Picking out food is just one small option in the game and aspect to the entirety and in no way represents a Sim-style gameplay. This game is a story, Sims is just....sims, it has no real plot, but if sims wasn't 'fun', sims wouldn't be one of the (if not, THE) biggest selling PC titles.
Like said, why buy a game that isn't considered fun? Guess plentiful people would have lots of STFUs to say to 'You FAILED' in that case, because that statement is both contradictory as well as just dopey.

It's just a different type of game. It's not your standard A ---> B objective filled corridor shooter. Some people find FPS's fun, racers, JRPGs etc which is why we have so many different genres of games. No need to post the same thing under two different ID's and take up an entire page of real estate ... you have made yourself perfectly clear. This doesn't interest you. Keep it moving. Easy peezy lemon squeezey.
The fact of the matter is that this game deal with real human emotions and extraordinary scenarios in a different way. Quantic Dream is trying to blur the line between games as toys and games as cinemas. Also, the video clearly you states there aren't objectives and you can decide what to do on your own terms ... you'll just have to deal with the ramifications of those decisions. So, if you don't want to feed your kid or watch videos of your dead son you don't have to because nothing is required.
They're trying to push boundaries in storytelling and redefine what a game actually is ... you heard him "no check points, no continues it's just the story that you chose to craft." ... again it's something completely different than everything else out there. Maybe it'll fail and maybe it'll succeed but you more than likely aren't the target demographic of this game.
It's different and the entire premise of behind the game is "how far will you go to save someone you love" not "special ops marines kill terrorists" ... different strokes and all that.

First off Johnny, feel free to take a peek at my profile. Notice that I have been here a while. I have but one account on joystiq, and have never posted on here on anything but this account. Take off your fanboy goggles and realize it’s possible for 2 people to have a similar opinion that differs from yours. Now go back and read whoever you are comparing me to again and notice that it’s probably a pretty different writing style. No need to apologize, you were just doing your fanboy duty.
Secondly, no one appreciates a good mushy storyline like R. I love good stories. I have a rather extensive collection of books including nearly the entire works of JRR Tolkien, Terry Brooks, and the Dragonlance series. Story is a big selling point for me and I love it when it’s integrated into a game well. And I am still reasonably certain that heavy rain will do just that, have a very interesting and involving story.
However, this does not change the fact that I find babysitting a kid boring. I did it for money as a teenager and I am glad those days are behind me. I certainly have no interest in doing it again in a videogame, and if it’s a large enough part of the story that they feel the need to make a trailer about it, well then yes, that does give me some cause for worry.
Notice the lovely neutrality in this post? It’s what the world is like when you don’t wear fanboy goggles. Maverick Saturn is another person that does this well. You should seriously give it a try sometime Johnny.

If I had the time to create multiple accounts and juggle between them posting comments just to annoy diehard sony fanboys, my life would take a change for the better. As it stands now I currently work 30 hours a week, take 14 credits worth of college classes, have a girlfriend, watch anime, and also play these things called video games. My free time is friday and saturday nights. That is all.
Ive been here 2 years longer than you, and you have over triple my posts. Not everyone has the leisure of that much free time. As I have stated in previous posts, it takes me a good two weeks to finish a video game. the only reason I am able to post this much tonight is because of the wonderful give that is weekends. Anyone that pays any sort of attention to my posts knows that I have better things to do than troll sony fanboys. Scroll through my post history, oh bearer of free time, and attempt to count the times my fanboy has shown. Yes I have shown Xbox favortism (As it stands it is the only console I own and i certainly have trouble budgeting for another), but never have I gone and went "oooo sony sucks XBL FTW lolz BBQ."
Hell, for like 75% of the posts on joystiq I dont even read the comment section, much less actually take time to create one. but hey, fortunatly my life will continue to go on, and so will his, and you can rest happy in the knowledge that you found a dirty fanboy spy and ratted him out to the world.
Oh, and I also noticed you said you FAILED is also a lot like captain planet. So I suppose I have 3 accounts now.
If you ignore the difference in opinion, my writing style and verbage is also very similar to Mavericks. I guess I have 4 accounts?
Thats just in this one topic too. Damn. Wish I had that much free time.

Your entire reply chain is confrontational ... The entire concept and idea behind the (any) game doesn't fit into narrow descriptions. This game in particular isn't trying to be rigid or narrow. It's trying to offer different experiences to different players in a fluid and free flowing way. Maybe it will be awful ... remember this video was also prepared for a Japanese audience and the developer mentioned parts of the game were changed for that culture. The fact remains if the kid bothers you then just abandon him all together. It's your story.

I must say I find it hilarious that one of the best, if not the single best known PS3 fanboy on this entire website is calling me, someone who strives to find the middle line of voicing my opinion while respecting those with differing opinions, confrontational.
And I must say that it does matter slightly to me. Scrolling through that kids posts shows a large amount of cursing and fanboy slamming, something which I take care not to do.

I said the tone in your posts in this thread were confrontational ... not overall. There is a difference.
For the record I've been on this site for about 2.5 years. I probably have over 20x the posts that you do. Two of my accounts have been banned from the blogsmith networks - once for a homosexuality conversation on a gay gaymer thread (not justified) and once on an MMA Fanhouse thread (justified) ...
I like to consider myself a defender for the most part not an attacker. I usually don't go picking fights I just take the flame bait. If you think the theatrics abouts "the biggest PS3 fanboy in the history of the world ..." or whatever bothers me your dead wrong. I've owned every single console this generation (and last) and once MS gets off their ass and does a redesign or launches a Natal bundle at the current price I'll take that plunge again. Not that I expect you to believe me or to care but I bought a 360 the day they came out, waited in the freezing cold for 7 hours and had the thing give me 7 different hardware failures up until I sold it this past Christmas. I know where I stand on things and frankly I think the whole fanboy stuff is played out. It really just serves as a distraction and is usually a cop out when people have a disagreement. There is a whole negative connotation with the word fanboy thats probably a little incorrect.
In fact I like to think that I have pretty well thought out opinions and that I usually make sense and always take an approach based off personal experience. I still have my 360 HDD and a handful of games ... not to mention my Gears 2 lancer. The day I start pulling shit out of my ass and trolling for the sake of trolling is the day that I'll go on an indefinite hiatus.
I don't go around screaming about the power of the cell, how the PS3 is going to win this generation etc etc ... I've made it quite clear based on personal experience that it's given me the best experience. As much as I despise MS and their past business practices I still bought their last two consoles and I'll still own another 360 for the exclusives. Know why? I'm a gamer and it's something I'm passionate about. I despise Gamestop but I still shop there.
I see someone like Marius or Killjebus as being way bigger fanboys than me. They just troll most of the time. But whatever ... I've got nothing to prove.
I can understand why you wouldn't want to be associated with that other guy. I'm sure your good peoples mate. If I jumped the gun and I was wrong then I apologize. Just so you know it had nothing to do with being a fanboy. I felt there was an obvious correlation and obviously I was wrong.
