Uncharted 2 sells well in Japan despite unsightly handicap
After Uncharted the First hit Japan with the force of a thousand baby chicken feathers, we didn't think the game's sequel would have much of an impact in the region. It seems we were mistaken -- according to a gaming retailer blog called Sinobi, Uncharted 2 sold 47,000 units in its first day at retail in Japan. Sure, it's not the biggest launch ever, but it's a huge improvement over the original Uncharted's first-day sales of 7,300 units.
Of course, the original Uncharted didn't have the massive install base and Sony marketing support that Naughty Dog's latest endeavor has -- nor did it possess the simply stunning box art seen above. Seriously, Japanese Uncharted 2 box art, we're gonna need that breath back. You know, that breath that you took away.

its awesome
Arghon @ Oct 16th 2009 12:50PM
I think the cover art is pretty rad. Everyone to their own. Good for me, as it was the only choice I had when I went to buy the game yesterday at my local store.
It came included with the redemption code for the Golden Guns as well.
Robbie @ Oct 24th 2009 8:35PM
Uh, that cover art is very rad. Except for the ugly blue font this is way better than the American cover. Kinda reminds me of an old Indiana Jones poster
Arghon @ Oct 16th 2009 12:58PM
Only one thing is missing...Elena.
Eh @ Oct 16th 2009 1:04PM

Rax Dakkar @ Oct 16th 2009 2:27PM
Yes it is lame, if by lame you mean the greatest box art ever.
justinslot @ Oct 16th 2009 2:56PM
@cylet: Exactly. It looks like something you'd get at the flea market.
Darkfocus @ Oct 16th 2009 5:04PM
Look at Lezarevitch in the bottom left corner 8/
I wonder if he actually looks like that in game that would be awesome 8D
Sidebuster @ Oct 16th 2009 12:07PM
that cover art is the business. All it needs is chuck norris and the words delta force and it would sell every unite made.
Captain Planet [Planeteer | Power of Captain Planet] @ Oct 16th 2009 12:46PM
I don't know man, normally I get lost when I stare into Nathan's eyes but on that box art, he's got that "creepy uncle" look on his face.
Who am I kidding, I'd still do him.
Monchis @ Oct 16th 2009 1:16PM
Nice to see you back in the blue Captain!
Thresurhold @ Oct 16th 2009 12:10PM
That is the worth box art i've ever seen. It's complete shit.

Worsel @ Oct 16th 2009 12:14PM
No, that honor goes to the box art for Mega Man. WTF that artist was thinking I'll never know...
tuunicopapi @ Oct 16th 2009 12:17PM
"That is the worth box art i've ever seen. It's complete shit.

Temidien @ Oct 16th 2009 1:12PM
"and, apparently, your the "worth" speller i've ever seen."
Still having trouble with your/you're and capitalizing your I's I see...
Captain Planet [Planeteer | Power of Captain Planet] @ Oct 16th 2009 1:14PM
I'm having a hard time (while laughing uncontrollably) understanding how a person with a lisp can type with a lisp. Shit makes no sense but I can't stop laughing.
jahd5000 @ Oct 16th 2009 3:26PM
besides the grammatical error, i agree with this guy.
I just hate it.
Gennosuke-sama (formerly known as tuunicopapi) @ Dec 10th 2009 3:12PM
@ Temidien
did you understand what i was trying to point out? yes? then WTF does it matter if i made an error in my grammar/punctuation?
AsherR [Planeteer | Power of The Hoff] @ Oct 16th 2009 12:12PM
ACK! I guess that's a counter attack for Japanese covers that were destroyed coming to America (I'm looking at you Ico).
But seriously, that cover really reminds me of Lupin, not the art style just the presentation, for some reason.
whylekat @ Oct 16th 2009 2:20PM
What happened with Ico ?
AsherR [Planeteer | Power of The Hoff] @ Oct 16th 2009 2:32PM
Personally, I did not like the Ico cover art at all. It just seemed very bland and generic. The American art that is.
whylekat @ Oct 16th 2009 3:00PM
Isn't the box art alwys different for japan/America?
green11420 @ Oct 16th 2009 12:16PM
For some reason that box art screams bollywood to me.
WINterfang ( Now with the power to piss you off ) @ Oct 16th 2009 12:23PM
The girl looks wait better in this box art, in game she is not a looker, my sisters boyfriend just got the game!!! I need to play it >=D.
Boye @ Oct 16th 2009 12:34PM
Are you kidding me? I think she's gorgeous in-game. To each his/her own.
Bill$ @ Oct 16th 2009 12:36PM
first, "getsThat is the worth box art i've ever seen." now "getsThe girl looks wait better in this box art, ".. are you guys playing a prank?.. sorry to notice such things but its worse than a typo. .. correction-- It's WAIT WORTH than a typo.
Exemplar @ Oct 16th 2009 12:43PM
I get the exact same vibe.. Ooh, imagine the dancing!
dark_inchworm (stronger than never, ever before) @ Oct 16th 2009 12:44PM
Apparently you don't read many of winterfang's posts. There's a bit of unintentional hilarity in each one. Cracker Jack presents English as a Second Language.

There's something manly about her face and it look even weirder in the videos.
Exemplar @ Oct 16th 2009 1:02PM
ain't nothing manly about those sweater puppies though.
green11420 @ Oct 16th 2009 1:05PM
Chloe is hot. End of discussion.
HUPextreme @ Oct 16th 2009 1:33PM
WINterfang you must be looking at the SD version of the game.
xLordOblivionx @ Oct 16th 2009 3:47PM
Pfft. Even on my 14" SD tv she looks amazing.
RKN @ Oct 16th 2009 5:03PM
How do you white people know about Bollywood?
Atr-Slzr-Ctr @ Oct 16th 2009 6:07PM
What are you talking about!?! She's an ass worth saving
koehler83 @ Oct 16th 2009 12:18PM
I didn't pick up Uncharted:DF on day 1 either.
In fact because of Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank Future: TOD and Assassin's Creed at the time, Uncharted got pushed back to 2008, post trophy patch. By the time I did get it, I felt like an idiot for having waited, since it was better than the three aforementioned titles combined.
I pre-ordered Uncharted 2 and it's better than the four aforementioned titles combined. If there's anything I can do to get Uncharted 3 before day 1, I will do it.
Fane [A-MF Brigade] @ Oct 17th 2009 6:23PM
Better, yes. Combined, no.
OSCAR007 @ Oct 16th 2009 12:21PM
is not like the movie poster of the 60'
thats what came to my mind when i see them
Phizzy @ Oct 16th 2009 12:23PM
Uncharted 2: Down Syndrome edition wins hearts!
Duke @ Oct 16th 2009 3:25PM
Your lack of class seems to have lost hearts...
Phizzy @ Oct 16th 2009 8:52PM
But they've clearly drawn the characters with downs.
TriviumSuffocationTheBlackDahliaMurderLambOfGod @ Oct 16th 2009 12:23PM
I love the Japanese art. Quite pretty, actually. And it's good to see an improvement in sales. Naughty Dog deserves to have Uncharted 2 be a hit worldwide. A great group of talented devs.
el serpiente @ Oct 16th 2009 12:24PM
It's definitely a homage to old Thai movie posters. There may be cultural cues we miss when we look at foreign marketing. I don't know if there was a similar style in Japan at some point, but that is the first thing I thought of.
Check out the gallery anyway, great stuff...
