What's everyone playing this weekend?
[Thanks to Capybara Games for the original artwork!]
- Alexander Sliwinski (@XanderSliwinski): Demon's Souls and spending some time finishing Nathan Drake's adventure. Probably get a little of Halo 3: ODST's Firefight in there.
- Andrew Yoon (@scxzor): My PS3 has finally been returned by the greedy folks at Engadget. Now it's time to play catch-up with Uncharted 2 and LBP: GOTY Edition.
- Ben Gilbert (@BigBossBgilbert): I'm about five days into a 10-day trial of WoW and I'm sad to say that I really enjoy it -- Griffin's idea of a JPAG group would surely mean my demise. When I'm not hitting that pipe, I'll be starting Chrono Trigger on DS and finishing up extras in Fable 2.
- Christopher Grant (@ChrisGrant): Uncharted 2. Over and over and over and over. And then once more for good measure.
- David Hinkle (@DaveHinkle): I've got a stack of new gaming goodness to go through. First of all, there's Uncharted 2 -- I'm at the beginning of the third chapter right now and the game has so far blown me away. Second, there's Brütal Legend, which I've only scratched the surface of, so I look forward to playing that some more. Finally, there's this box from Amazon that has LittleBigPlanet GOTY edition in it (sad to say I've never played LBP) and Red Faction: Guerrilla. When not gaming, I'll be cheering the Phillies on to the World Series (see: sports).
- Griffin McElroy (@griffinmcelroy): Some-buh-dee got into the LittleBigPlanet Water Beta, and will likely be spending the weekend moistening Sackpeople. In the interim, this same somebody is also back on WoW, and is thinking of starting a JPAG guild, so he'll likely be gathering venture capital this weekend.
- James Ransom-Wiley: JUMP!
- JC Fletcher (@jcfletcher): If I have any time for games this weekend, it'll go into finishing Metal Gear Solid 4. Then taking any positive feelings I may have developed about myself as a result of doing that, and destroying them in Demon's Souls.
- Justin McElroy (@JustinMcElroy): You know what, I don't have real video games here in Honduras, so I'm gonna spend the weekend trying to help Ben and Griffin realize that each moment we receive on Earth is a gift, so every time you play WoW, it's like setting a big pile of gifts on fire.
- Kevin Kelly (@gadgetguy): Like everyone else on the planet, I'm going to play Uncharted 2 so much that I'll end up saving the world. Only for real this time. I also got into Halo Wars recently and finished the campaign, so I had the bright idea to take it online in multiplayer. And I keep having my ass handed to me time after time. So, if I win just one online match, I'll be satisfied. Please, come lose to me. And if Griffin is back in WoW, I'm tempted to get back in there as well. If only he and I lived closer we'd be playing D&D nightly. Right now I have no idea which is more nerdy.
- Ludwig Kietzmann (@LudwigK): Uncharted 2 for the second time, Brütal Legend for the first time and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 for the last time. Oh! And Machinarium. It's out now, you know.
- Randy Nelson (@DangerPenguin): I really want to finish Uncharted 2, but this other game keeps pulling me away for hours on end. It's on Uncharted 2's menu screen and is called "Multiplayer."
- Richard Mitchell (@SenseiRAM): Need to finish up Sam & Max Season One so I can grab Season Two (XBLA). Also some fun with Solid Snake in MGS4, a little Diablo II and, if GameFly decides not to be completely inept, Demon's Souls. Oh, and maybe some Firefight. And Lucidity.
- Xav de Matos (@Xav): [Say his name backwards three times!]
- Justin Glow (@justinglow): (Cosplaying at a bar as Nathan Drake.)

I'm playing Melty Blood ReACT. It has the best story of any fighting game I've ever played, hands down.
Saihna @ Oct 17th 2009 12:27AM
Ah, I'm on Ch. 6 on Dead Space, I'm going to beat it this weekend so i can return it for Borderlands. I also bought Demon Souls is by far one of the greatest games I've played all year. :D
Saihna @ Oct 17th 2009 12:47AM
oh, fuck reply fail.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 16th 2009 9:36PM
Well I already beat Brutal Legend with about 95% complete and decided to trade it in, and I beat Uncharted 2 this morning (wow, what an experience!) so I don't have much to play right now. Gotta beat Dead Space I guess, not really enjoying it so far...but I don't consider being in constant fear and tension very fun.
Alton Brown [ XBL: LordToastington] @ Oct 16th 2009 9:40PM
Go back and play a game you loved when you were a kid. I do that all the time when I don't have stuff to play.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 16th 2009 9:44PM
I have a hard time going back to really old games, not cause they're hard (they are), but they kinda bore me now. I have been prepping myself for Demon's Souls by playing really hard oldschool games but there's only so much torture I can put myself through at once.
Alton Brown [ XBL: LordToastington] @ Oct 16th 2009 9:47PM
I feel you. Still, Mega Man X and Chrono Trigger take up more of my time than I'd like to admit.
R (Planeteers | Power of Penile Pulse) @ Oct 16th 2009 9:51PM
you beat 2 games in the space of a few days? Holy damn dude.
Ive had wolverine orgins from gamefly for like 2 weeks and im probably 2/3 of the way through it.
Solace @ Oct 16th 2009 9:51PM
I just got Demon's Souls and it's pretty fun and challenging, you should play online so you get hints to help you out and it's hilarious to watch all these replays of people dieing so idiotically. In the nexus some guy went to the top floor and just rolled of the top to his death fucking hilarious you see so many bloodstains there too.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 16th 2009 9:53PM
Yup I've had a pretty open week so I had plenty of time to finish those. Brutal Legend was really short anyway and it wasn't hard to find most of the hidden items. That game was such a disappointment though, very very boring gameplay wise. Never again will I let Tim Schafer trick me into buying his games!
Great soundtrack though, he has great taste in music!
Solace @ Oct 16th 2009 9:54PM
oh and one bloodstain led to these two dragons and this guy got owned in one hit and I just turned back and read a hint that said not for beginners, if only he read that before getting killed by two massive dragons.
R (Planeteers | Power of Penile Pulse) @ Oct 16th 2009 9:59PM
I can feel you on Dead Space though. After all the "OMG its great" I gameflyed it and got to like level 4 before sending it back.
Horror games arent really my thing either, unless i can play as a hot chick in one ala Fatal Frame.
Markez (attempting to call me less of a man because i knew so much about pans) @ Oct 16th 2009 10:02PM
How far are you in Dead Space? The beginning gave me the feeling I get from Silent Hill, can only play it in short spurts, makes me feel dirty like I need to turn all the lights on and take a shower.
BUT, that sort of creepiness or fear factor wore for me in like ch 2 or 3, and now it's just a sweet romp. Great game. Eventually the scares are nothing more than a surprise necro attack and that's it. Silent Hill just always had this pervasive and unsettling atmosphere that just creeps me out.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 16th 2009 10:06PM
Only on chapter 2 so far, probably close to 3 since I've been on it for a while. Got it from gamefly tuesday but that was also Uncharted and Brutal Legend day so it didn't get touched until last night.
Let the record show this is the first game maybe since I was a kid that I'm playing on easy. I don't like horror games that much.
johnnynumber5 @ Oct 17th 2009 12:42AM
Yeah Uncharted 2 was quite the coaster ride. I was expecting the game to be really good but it almost wasn't even like a game ... more like some hybrid action move game thing. Loved it. One of the few games I powered through in two sittings. The multiplayer is decent but it's a little run and gun for my tastes.
Saihna @ Oct 17th 2009 12:49AM
"Ah, I'm on Ch. 6 on Dead Space, I'm going to beat it this weekend so i can return it for Borderlands. I also bought Demon Souls is by far one of the greatest games I've played all year. :D" Was meant to go here. My fault for the reply fail, sorry guys.
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Oct 17th 2009 8:23AM
I find it hard to believe someone wouldn't enjoy Dead Space. But then again we all have different tastes I guess. ;)
But I'll give you some tips for maximum enjoyment of this sadistically awesome game:
1. Watch the first Alien movie first, to get in the right state of mind.
2. Play it alone, in the dark. Keep the room temperature cold.
3. Turn the volume really LOUD. Most of the scares in this game are dependent on the awesome sound design. Headphones are also very nice when playing this game if you don't want your neighbors to think you are throwing cats into a grinder.
4. Play it in smaller doses. Two chapters at a time is the best. Or it might get slightly repetitive.
5. Play it on the harder difficulty levels. This will force you to approach new areas more slowly and thus increase horror factor.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 17th 2009 10:43AM
That would be helpful if I didn't already state I don't like getting scared :P
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Oct 17th 2009 11:41AM
Then I'd say go for Resident Evil 5, which is a much more action-oriented, less scary affair (Still a damn good game though). To judge Dead Space as a regular shooter isn't doing it justice.
den-69 @ Oct 17th 2009 9:01PM
@Solace
People jump from the top floor of the nexus so they can be in soul form without affecting their world tendency.
Killing yourself in human form in the nexus doesn't make any worlds black.

Anyway, I'm playing my DJ Hero demo, Mobile Light Force, and Thexder Neo (which is awesome, btw.)

DJ hero is so much fun, It really suprised me

Playing absolutely nothing. Family is up visiting taking away valuable gaming time >:(

Noone's family's perfect. We don't pick what family we're born into. But, it doesn't matter, they're your family.
Solace @ Oct 16th 2009 10:32PM
that doesnt mean the samething to me as it does to you, and that's all I'm saying about that
Traceur_Ryuk [All Digital until December] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Oct 16th 2009 10:52PM
True, and my dad and mom's side of family couldn't be any more different. I accidentally said "shit" in front of my mom's sister and she literally sat down and started praying for me. Yet my dad's side is all a bunch of gangster drug dealers.

Look, I've lost family members due to various reasons (sickness, age, accidents, etc.). And you don't realize how much you miss them until they're gone for good. Of all I've done in my life, my only regret is I didn't get to know them better, or see them more often.
Of course, you're not going to like everything about your family (God knows I don't), but that doesn't mean you can't try to get along with them.
Unless your family is severely psychotic/dysfunctional... So what do you do? First, you say "No!", then you get outta there!
Not all family relationships are worth salvaging... but most are.

@BPMOmega [XBL, PSN, Steam]
I won't doubt your view of the matter, but family just isn't for everyone (even though it may be for the vast majority).
All I've got left is a Sister and an Aunty, and I'd love to be without both of them. The latter one is nuts, but the former one simply doesn't match my personality and just takes up time. I have no regrets about the family which has already passed. Those I cared for I spent time with, and those I didn't -- I didn't.
tl;dr, Some people think one way, which is fine. Others think another way, which is also fine.
Ashitaka @ Oct 17th 2009 9:22AM
Ok, I never said a mom joke before, let's see if I do it right:
"Family blows...."
Yeah, especially your mom.

Uncharted 2, who wants to do co-op

SpaceFox @ Oct 16th 2009 9:43PM
I got Uncharted 2, Fallout 3: GOTY and DiRT 2 today at Best Buy(they pricematched the TRU deal). Gonna trade Fallout 3 in for Crack in Time, I've seen some gameplay and reviews and I just don't think I'll like it.
Anyone know if DiRT 2 is any good? I'm thinking about exchanging that one too, maybe for MW2.
And right now I'm playing Uncharted 2. Man it's good, decided to go on Hard the first time around. Pretty tough.
TRON.dll @ Oct 16th 2009 10:27PM
I rented the Wii version of DiRT 2. I've never played the original DiRT and don't know if there's supposed to be anything unique about DiRT 2, but it just seemed like every other standard racer out there. The challenges were kinda fun, but it got pretty boring after I blasted through them. I found it to be a lot like a bunch of other boring racing games. I wouldn't suggest buying it.
Durden @ Oct 16th 2009 11:15PM
I'm a huge racing fan and I say Dirt 2 is amazing. I've played it almost everyday since release. The career mode is lengthy and the multiplayer is addictive. If you're looking to mod cars and trade pink slips (NFS it up) I would trade it in because you won't find that here.
It may be a good game to keep you busy until MW2.
Durden @ Oct 16th 2009 11:18PM
Oh and I'm not knocking the Wii, but online in Dirt 2 is a big component to the full experience so IMO the Wii version doesn't do the game any justice. Plus the graphics in 360 and PS3 versions are incredible.
