Earlier this month, we received a ton of tips pointing to various stories claiming the release date for the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 had been pushed back to November 24. Infinity Ward frontman Robert Bowling recently dispatched a 140-character missive that should soothe the souls of mouse-and-keyboard wielders everywhere: "No delay on PC for Modern Warfare 2," Mr. FourZeroTwo tweeted.
In the same chirp, Bowling added, "you'll also have Prestige Mode in PC as well as lots of Steam support. Hopefully min specs will be soon." Admittedly, that's not a whole lot of detail, but c'mon -- the guy had 140 letters to get his message across. We've contacted Bowling to get lengthier details on what this "support" entails.

Wow, Bowling pulled his head out of Microsoft's rear end long enough to come up for air, and even sent out a couple tweets!

Hijacking the top post for a minute to highlight that MW2 PC is gimped;
http://current.com/items/91209723_mo...ed-servers.htm
If you glorious cats at Joystiq could report THIS, even as a rumor, you'd be doing PC gamers everywhere a service when Kotaku link to you, then other sites link to Joystiq and Kotaku, and the forums across the internet explode with geek rage the likes of which the world has seen quite a lot actually and hopefully will work... right?

It's about time we hear that MW2 is getting steam. COD4 was best on PC (as all the DLC was free and lots of great custom maps consoles didn't get), but there was NO friends list. This now makes MW2 best on PC too. That been said, I still might get the PS3 version as several friends have been switching to PS3 since the price drop. Eh, will still probably end up with PC due to free map packs and maps + kb&mouse!

Good news. I'm still debating between steam or the 360 version. Something really irks me about spending $60 on a PC game when most console games are easy to find discounted to $50.

Dude, you can't pass up Map Hacks.
But, there can be hacks used for cheating, which is a bad thing.

By "map hacks" do you mean map mods? There's a difference ya know.

There are tools you can download that you can use to literally hack the maps. Spawn any item you want, randomly spawn hordes of zombies, even set up new scenery and terrain. Pretty neat stuff, but it can also be pretty annoying.

Steam has a system in place where the publishers can sell DLC. Depending on how MW2 is integrated with Steam, it's possible that it won't be free. And with activision's track record, they'd do everything they can to squeeze as much money out as possible.
I'm really interested to see how they use steam. I will be extremely happy if they use Valve's server lists that works for their source games, since the one from MW1 is very 1999ish.

Steam has the worst cod support ever. Retail copies and such get the dlc day and date of the console version. Steam gets It 3-4 weeks later

The 360 version has split screen multiplayer - always fun having a few friends over and spending the evening playing CoD :)

$60 AND paid DLC? Jesus, activision is even greedier than usual these days. They do know the economy isn't great, right?

Screw it, I'm sick of Activision-Blizzard nickel and diming me for every goddamn thing. They're worse than EA was. I'm not buying this game on release, I'll just wait until it's $40 or so, or maybe skip out on it completely. Call of Duty 4 is still fun, anyways.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear. Now I can buy this, Borderlands, and L4D2 on steam. My friends and I are going to be so swamped this fall.

What does the guy mean by "mods will not be possible"? How are they going to keep PC players from modding?
I love IW, but this is a joke. No dedicated servers, non-free DLC on the PC, and sixty dollars?
Console version purchase confirmed (for me anyway). Not sure which console yet.

I'm probably not buying this game now. No mods, no custom maps, forced P2P gameplay, the entire thing is just ugly.

I can't comprehend this mentality. The PC version is more or less the same as the console version now and you're protesting by BUYING the console version? You're all admitting that this type of completely acceptable to console gaming yet when it comes to PCs it's not? Either way they're making a profit and wont give a fuck.
If anything this should blur the line between buying the PC or console version.

I miss the old days of PC gaming. I really do. Pre-Xbox Live. Don't get me wrong, I own an Xbox 360 and play on Live, but I genuinely miss PC gaming back in the day. Back before everything was gimped, before overly-restrictive DLC made people hesitate to buy games, back when PC games got dumbed down and ported to consoles instead of vice versa.

I can't wait until IW comes out with a statement blaming the bad PC sales on piracy instead of the real culprit, them gimping the game. I'm willing to bet any amount of money that that will be the excuse they give for the game not selling well.
This game was going to be a day one purchase for me until I read about all the "features" they are putting into the game like no mods, no dedicated servers, a matchmaking system instead of allowing players to join the server they want, etc. After reading all of that the game became one I MIGHT purchase if it I see it on sale on Steam for ~$20.

Hmm, I actually have not decided between console or PC on this one. Usually default for FPS is to the console for me, but I am always open.
Anyone offering non biased advice on this decision?

Non biased? Impossible. PC has better controls if you're used to them. No auto aim. More recoil (consoles have almost none from the videos I've seen). I've been playing with mouse+kbd for more than 10 years. Hell will freeze over before I start playing anything but football (soccer) and fighting games on a gamepad.
The most un-biased advice would be to get with a friend who plays it on PC, play for a few hours and decide for yourself. Whatever best suits your habits/desires :D

I would go with the PC, i prefer to play fps's on it, because they run better, the controls work better, and i have surround sound on my pc.
i tend to leave anything else for my 360.

it depends. i'm a sniper, and i like actually trying, so i choose consoles. you can turn off the auto aim, and sniping is actually fun instead of point and click like on PC. but yeah, like the other guy said, try both. it really depends heavily on your play style.

I'm sure Sly also likes RE5's controls because they make the game harder.

For control, there's no comparison. On the PC, you can turn as fast as you can move your hand, and you can aim as fast as you can think. No delay, thresholds or acceleration/deceleration. That, and to me WASD feels more natural than holding a controller, but that's more personal preference than anything else.

Sly, i played MW on 360, with like 30000 kills (28,000 which must have been from the M40A1) and moved onto PC gaming, its not a Point as click as you make it out to sound, you still have the slow moving scope eye, the slow moving walk while in scope, so i really have no idea where your coming from with "point and click". IMO of course

by point and click, i mean point with the mouse (which is MUCH faster than consoles) and click to shoot. point and click. not that hard to figure out.
"you still have the slow moving scope eye, the slow moving walk while in scope"
i was talking about aiming and shooting. i wasn't talking about movement or scoping in.

You might as well try to piss upside down. You know, for the challenge and bragging rights.

There are always dedicated servers, especially for PC. Don't worry, some people just have no idea what they're talking about. People set up their own dedicated servers all the time, and you can register them as well. Steam encourages it.
