The historical preservationists at NIS America are attempting to save the increasingly endangered beast known as the "Universal Media Disc." You probably haven't heard of the format -- your parents most assuredly have. Though we currently live in an age of incorporeal digital software, the developer is attempting to re-release its eccentric dungeon dive, Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do to Deserve This? in a limited edition UMD format -- provided enough PSP owners show interest in owning a tangible copy of the game.
If over 1,000 supervillains-in-training pre-order the UMD version of Badman by November 13, NIS will go through with actually producing them, shipping out to their respective buyers in mid-December. Seems like it'll be a tough putt -- but we're sure there's 1,000 fans of both obscure strategy games and tiny, plastic-armored discs tucked away in some pocket in the internet.

Hmmm, I might pre-order. Kinda more convenient for me though to just have it on a memory card.

the games is only like the size of 2 big psp mini games...so putting it on umd is bit pointless

It's not pointless to anyone who doesn't have an internet connection (there are still some out there you know).

My PSP-1000 just has the 32mb memory stick that came with it, so.

There's also some of us who would like a copy of the game that DOESN'T stop working the moment the PSP4 comes out and Sony decides there's no point leaving up the PSP1's outdated DRM authentication servers.

Why don't they just do it like Patapon 2, a voucher for the download off the PSN store, with case and manual.

Because the people, for whom they're hoping to release a hard copy of the game, are the people who WANT a disk version.
I myself wanted Patapon 2 but can't see buying a game that could conceivably stop working, not due to damage or getting old, but because Sony decided it was time to stop letting it work.

played the demo before. wasnt enough to make me buy it then... however, a UMD for it? it might be good enough to me for that. I like the tangibility of it. and not having to worry about what memory stick it's on, and losing the ultra smaller memory stick, oh right, i also dont have any more memory sticks with free space in order to store it, so i wouldnt have to buy the game AND a memory stick, if i am able to buy a UMD for it... i think i just talked myself into supporting this.

If this isn't confirmation of both the ignorance of the PSN of 3000 owners and the rarity of PSP Go owners, I don't know what is.

I just actually read the article. I guess I just want to shit on the Go a little too much. It's a cool move on NISA's part.

From what I've seen it's not the kind of game where the story is important, it looks more like some weird puzzle game with really simple graphics. The sequel is probably just going to improve and tweak the gameplay in ways that will make the first one obsolete, so it probably wouldn't be smart to bundle them like you wouldn't bundle Madden 09 with Madden 10.

I really want to order this, but shipping to Canada is $65 US. That seems a little... off to me.

I already have the digital version, but hell, I'll pre-order the UMD just because I want to see physical media continue.
