Japanese hardware sales, Oct. 5 - Oct. 11: Imploded analogy edition

It wasn't just relief that we felt after learning of the folk hero-esque Balloon Boy's safety -- it was inspiration. "Ah, yes," we said to ourselves upon hearing of the boy's false flight, "we've found our subject for the next Japanese Hardware Sales post." The plan was deceptively simple: It would be a metaphor! An analogy! But for what? Sales! Sales, on occasion, go up -- just like balloons. It was perfect! It would work -- it had to work.

Imagine our dismay when we actually calculated the changes in sales from last week's data. All of them, down. No -- this won't do. Can't be! The plan, the analogy! We check CNN, hoping to read of some brave copycat, utilizing bizarre means of downward transportation -- a Tunnel Boy, if you will. We could work with that. The analogy, it would stand.

Sadly, no such boy existed.

A slow week for releases does this all the time. And there won't be anything till late October, which will explode, mostly in PS3's favor, with Bayonetta and Tekken 6

how is that great for sony ,when both games are being released for both xbox 360 & ps3 at the sametime .worst part bayonetta looks way better on the 360. as for tekken can't say much never really liked the game .

hey its pretty interesting when you think a 6 year old kid might plummet to his death at any moment. then you realize you watched a ball of Reynold's Wrap float around for 90 minutes and you get kinda pissed. when they caught it and no kid came out i was not happy.

Someone could have done the math in less than 5 minutes and figured out that there wasn't enough helium inside the balloon to support a kid.

The PS3 outselling the Wii(even with a recent wii price drop) is very impressive.I suspect that the PS3 will take the top spot again with Tekken 6 & Bayonetta.
