I saw the rumour last week and hoped it wasn't true. Now that they have confirm that it is - I will be cancelling my pre-order. Yet again PC gamers get screwed over due to the laziness and greed of developers and publishers. Without dedicated servers, clan communities (like mine) hoping to get into MW2 are now pretty much dead in the water. Way to go IW. Thanks for rewarding our loyalties in the past... :/

Never thought I'd say this but - here's to DICE and EA getting the Battlefield franchise sorted for next year!

Well, mark me up as another one to cancel the pre-order. I play CoD 4: MW almost every night and have friends I've made on the servers I frequent - the analogy to Cheers is pretty accurate, people do get to know you there.

Without clan support, I can see this going belly-up pretty quickly - they did the same thing with OpFlashpoint: Dragon Rising too, moving from Ded. Servers to a peer-to-peer system and that has caused an outrage there too.

Sadly, I'll be adding Activision to my list of boycotts, alongside EA - although I may add DICE as an exception to that rule, depending on whether or not EA persist in their current licencing model.

And no, before anyone suggests otherwise, I've not touched any EA games since starting the boycott - I was intrigued by Spore too, shame... it's one game I'll never buy now. And this from an old Battlefield fan, too...

I completely agree with what jackal said. I've been a loyal fan of Infinity Ward since they were nothing but a small, unknown studio that created a masterpiece in the original Call of Duty.

Since then they have been slowly taking the biggest shit on their fanbase that made them who they are today (PC gamers). I was willing to let the whole $60 price thing slide but this is the straw that broke the camels back.

For the first time ever, I hope people pirate the shit out of your product. You've earned it!

Fuck us? No fuck you.

Hey jackal, I'm no longer an activision employee however when i was i did read this site and i still do =-p

The thing that I would like to point out is, the big wigs that make these choices, are very few. Most of us that know the game, test the game and love the game have no say. Lets be a little less general and a bit more direct.

Here's a thought:
Why not make IW waste money by forcing them to produce the PC version? Don't cancel your preorder but make more preorders at places that will refund your money (e.g. Gamestop) then cancel your preorder once the game arrives. Force IW to make the PC version of MW2 and then boycott it. If we all cancel before it's released they just won't produce it and focus on the console side.

alright infinity ward I guess 200,000 petitioners doesnt mean shit to you guys? im pretty sure over 200,000 (that just the people who signed it, theres probably 500,000 people against it) knows more than infinity ward what we want best. we prefer to have customizations at our own fucking hand rather than some people controlling it (who gives a shit if u think its better than dedicated servers) we know what we want and ur not giving it to us. many of us only buy the pc version cause we liked the dedicated servers, and 200,000 of us are willing to boycott infinity ward

I think its disgusting the way that IW has taken the Call of Duty franchise. When I first heard about Modern Warfare 2. I like most others was really excited, but this has completely pissed on my parade. I dont want to be told where and who I can play. I want to play with my own clan, on my own clan server with people that Ive been playing with for years. Not told to play "somebody" because he matches my ranking.

But to top this all off, I feel that IW has only done this to push the game towards the consoles when it was the PC that made the franchise what it is. I personally encourage people to cancel there pre-orders, get there money back and only invest in Modern Warfare 2 when IW treats the people that made the franchise what it is, the respect that they deserve, by allowing Dedicated Server support. If its not broken, dont try to fix it.

On another note, as most people know Activison is now a part of Blizzard (the people that started World of Warcraft). Its only a matter of time before they start charging people to play games like Call of Duty through a subscription.

I have always played PC games ever since I was a young lad and never thought that I would pick playing games on consoles over PC games. Nowadays I think a lot different! PC gamers are very arrogant and constantly say that, games on PC look better than consoles and, are a lot easier to control than consoles etc. Aswell as being arrogant, PC gamers look down on console gamers like snobs saying, we have more expensive and up to date hardware which beats your puny consoles any day!! I love PC games still but am growing further and further away from them because of of, endless bugs, hardware updates etc. I love mods for games but think that console gamers should be first priority due to, them paying a lot more for their games than PC gamers do.

i cant believe that this is actually happening to the Pc the greatest machine of all time.

sure they have to be upgraded frequently but that means u dont have to keep buying a brand new one computer like you have to keep buying a brand new console

we dont get bundled editions we have to pay a extra $10 we dont get dedicated servers and no mods and we get no 16 on 16 or 32 on 32 battles?! LIKE OLD TIMES

speak out people. petitions aren't enough, make a forum account if you have to. go to thier main website and let them hear your voices. tell them you want dedicated servers and mods. tell them you want the old 32 and 64 player limits. let them know we still want our clan matches and our gaming community where we dont have to always meet with a random person.
they are destroying the pc we cannot let this happen
