Seriously -- tell us that, when the camera pulls back to catch Brad on his knee, ring in hand, you don't want to yell out, "Look out! There's someone else in the room!" Or maybe it's just the close proximity to Halloween that's got us all on edge. Still ... Brad, if you're reading this, please drop us a line to let us know you're alright?
Mario World marriage proposal is clever (but kinda creepy)

Marriage proposals via video games aren't exactly new, but they're still clever -- and usually cute. Last Thursday, Brad Smith proposed to his girlfriend of five years using a hacked version of Super Mario World, placing coins in world 1-1 to spell out, "Will you marry me?" Cute, right? But we have to question Brad's filming of the occasion, because, if we didn't know better, we'd think the couple was being watched by a serial killer hiding behind their couch. You can see what we mean after the break.

I proposed to my wife using Super Smash Brothers Brawl. She loves that game, and I made a level that spelled out "Marry Me?" (mostly because you only get so many blocks, took some work just to get that much spelled out)
There is nothing creepy or weird or stupid about what this guy did. People have different ways of proposing, and I think this was pretty neat.

Really, Mr. Nelson, that's the angle you took to make your "humorous" observation?
It sucks when "pro" video game bloggers try too hard to be funny -- which, on average, is about half the time.

Is that a sad attempt to try to defend pirates?
Because pirates don't need protection from you.
They need protection from the sea.

I'm more concerned about whether or not she collected all those coins!
No, Soshi, that's not how it works. The egg is inside of her.

Imagine explaining to her parents how he proposed. If they didn't have a reason to hate him they probably do now.
I mean I think it's cute just in a nerdy, no-one-else-will-ever-understand kind of way.

No, bull****. You buy a car, that doesn't mean you can get free cars of the same make and model every time it breaks down. Or if a computer breaks down, a free computer. Broke your window? Sorry, you have to BUY a new one, you don't get to replace it for free. So why are backup copies of games free just because you owned a copy at one point?
Developers want you to buy new copies of a game if your current copy is ruined. If the first copy they sell you earns them money, why shouldn't a second or third or fourth copy? They need that money to make more games and keep themselves in business.
If they really took into consideration the fact you already paid for a game, such as Super Mario World, when it was released on the SNES, then they'd offer you a chance to download it for free on the Virtual Console. But since they don't and it costs 8 bucks to download it, I guess that means you have no right to download their property for free.

For some reason my reply wasn't added, so I'll do it again. If it eventually does appear, disregard this or my previous post.
Owning a legal copy doesn't give someone the right to download all subsequent copies for free. By your logic, if I buy a car, I'm allowed, for the rest of my life, to get free cars of the same make and model. No, I can't. So why are games a different case? They aren't.
Developers make money off of each copy of the game they sell. They need that money to keep themselves running so that they can make new games. If everyone bought a copy of their game once and downloaded all subsequent copies for free, the developer would go out of business. They need the cash that would be brought in through a persons purchase of a new copy of that game.
Look at it this way. Nintendo released Super Mario World on the SNES. It was re-released on the Virtual Console for 8 bucks. If indeed it's legal to download backup copies of games, Nintendo should give you the right to download the game for free. But since it's NOT legal to download backup copies of games you own, they charge 8 bucks. If it was legal, you could tell them, and even show them you have a copy of the game and they'd give you the VC version for free. But they give less than a **** that you own a copy of the game already, because they need and utilize every cent we all give them.

You're half right. It is illegal to "download" a backup from someone else. However, if you were to create the backup yourself via some other hardware/software (whose use may be illegal for other purposes) it is completely legal to have. Also, if you store it online afterwards, that too is legal (until someone else downloads it).

I don't know what the terms of use violation could be. There are tons of gameplay footage on YouTube. Maybe because it showed a hacked ROM?
