by all things, yes MW is the odd one out. COD 1 and 2 were awesome fps's imho, especially for a pc gamer like myself. I dunno... I think I'm going to miss the days when you're a regular on the server, the admins are cool, and randomly do weird shit like make grav go low, or really high, usually resulting in some unintended deaths, much to my delight

All of you pc nerds crying. But when you have to start paying for DLC (XBOX LIVE doesn't have mods,FREE DLC, or map editors like you) and a yearly subscription for service to even play online then you can start your crying. until then deal with hosting your own servers.

If your going to generalize all PC gamers as nerds (even though I am one : P ), then I will generalize all console gamers as idiotic children who buy into the latest fad, stupidly purchase the next cookie cutter game, all the overpriced DLC, etc.

Its pretty much guaranteed that PC gamers will have to pay for map packs now thanks to IW/Activision, if we even get them at all, when console multiplatform games often get content the PC version never sees.

Wouldn't be surprised if in the future, they have their own online system and even charge to access it to play online, just to rape us in the ass further and squeeze every last single penny from us.

we cant host our own servers thats what they have taken away you moron we want to pay for our own servers it creates a better community than the crap you guys have to use on the consoles and the lag is cut down to a minimum unless your stupid enough to go on a server on the other side of the world

now theres the listen servers weve had total number of players in a game halved when it was meant to double, and it gives complete power to one person who is deemed the listen server host and he can kick wanyone he wants and therefore if i lag i get kicked i kill him in a way he doesnt like kicked

It's things like this that have made me not buy any new PC games in years. My last new PC shooter was Call of Duty 2... which I didn't like, and haven't bothered to install on my laptop. It was vastly better than the console CoD's that were badly ported.

I built a gaming rig, only to play games 4-6 years old because of this crap. Viruses that damage hardware and provide the game publishers means to steal your identity. Other viruses which so greatly restrict your ability to install a game that you are forced to hack or pirate a game that you legitimately paid for. No LAN play in a franchise that was MADE by LAN play. And now, no mods, user-mad maps, or good servers in a FPS that would suck without such things as the B3 admin bot.

My gaming rig, though old now, sits unused and gathering dust in the back room. I prefer my laptop, which with a few no CD cracks gives me highly portable entertainment. No pirated games on this thing either; all I bought through the years. Or inherited from my grandfather, some are so old.

Oh well. I have more money to give to legitimate developers and publishers. Eschalon 2 is coming out soon, maybe this year. Vastly better game-play experience for less money, no viruses, and no restrictions. The original Call of Duty, Doom 2, and Team Fortress 2 can do for my FPS needs until a legitimate publisher comes out with one. Steel Panthers provides a superior strategy game fix than some boring click-fest without online play.

Alinos - Have you ever installed a game that had limited numbers of installs available? How about one that destroyed your CD-RW by slowing it down beyond spec? Starforce and Securom do these things (though Securom is dependent on what the criminals who purchase it decide to do with it).

I wasn't referring to regular viruses; and I use AVG constantly, with regular runs with Ad-aware and Spybot. Zonealarm for a firewall. I haven't had an issue with a virus on my computer in about 8 years. That was also the last time I had to share a computer with someone else.

I use to be hard core into PC gaming until I couldn't keep up with having to upgrade my PC all the time. I am a PC nerd just not a pc gaming nerd. The XBOX for me is best as I don't have to upgrade every 2 years to get the newest games to look good. I only pay for DLC for the games I really enjoy and COD* are the ones i only by DLC for.

I can't see why people with PC's are complaining about servers when they already said DLC for COD:MW2 will be free. you guys get to make yours own maps and custom mods. People with a console are stuck with what they give us. PLUS the games on XBOX are hosted on the XBOX so before in game host migration we were stuck dealing with the game ending because the host quit out and on the PC you don't have that problem.

Yeah one day PC users will have to start paying but until then I feel they need to stop whining about it and be happy with all the free stuff they get. Just my opinion though.

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games.”

Just let PC gamers have their dedicated servers IW. Stop listening to Kotick(because we all know that's who made the decision).

I would sign the petition, but I know that online petitions are useless. But I do hope IW gets the picture to not cave in under Activision's evil ways.

Valve started as a PC developer and are still supporting that platform. IW should do the same.

Why pay $10 more than most other PC games on the market just to get ripped off with some console port. I know it has probably been mentioned a thousand times in this post alone, but IW, you need to be loyal to your fans. A lot of major developers are starting to sway towards strictly consoles, but they need to remember where their games started. Nothing against consoles, but is it really that hard to put that extra $10 we are paying towards having what the community wants. Definitely not buying as of now. Perhaps I could just "Jack Sparrow" it...

Many people are ready and willing to blame Activision, but I personally blame IW.

Why? They've become kind of like Bungie, only much more assholish.

What do I mean by that exactly?

They like THEIR game, and they want you to play "THEIR" game the way "THEY" want you to play it.

What? Co-op? Screw that! We don't like co-op! You can't have it! You play what we want you to!

What? Dedicated servers? NO! You play it how we say!

Any other feature those "Dirty" people at "Crappy" Treyarch did? No! We're better!

They've become super smug, and they don't care one bit what gamers want. JUST. LIKE. BUNGIE. (only Bungie is cheery about them making things how they want it, but they're still assholes too, whereas IW is all "Scoff! Stop looking directly at me lower people!"

The clear point is that on the PC COD was the most pirated game to date. When you have over a million people pirate your game on a constant basices, steps have to be made. Yes those steps will lose you customers. If those steps loose you the pirates as well so be it. Do not forget that pirates were able to play COD4 online which IW was able to track all of the illegal copies played. Think about it, how IW let the pirates play because they wanted to get a good estimate of how bad piracy is on the PC. When you have 3 to 1 players online that are pirates, well you are not going to be happy as a company.

The thing is that on the console, COD sells enough that IW and Activision can make this decision and really not care if PC gamers like it or not. The outcome of this decision will be that most of you that say you will not purchase the game will pirate it. You will in effect prove to IW and activision that the PC platform is riddled with theives who care only about gratifying their own greed but you will not change the decision you will only make IW and Activision resolve even stronger.

I was reading another site and the people there was talking about giving them more incentives to not pirate a game. Is this what PC gaming has come to that you have to bribe gamers not to pirate your game instead of the hard work developers already put into a game that will give you endless hours of gameplay. In the end you reap what you sow.

Before someone says that you can pirate games on the consoles, this is true, the difference is that actual hot games like COD sells 20 times more than pirated copies. Until there is a steep dip in that disparity, consoles will be the choice and may end of being the only choice for big games.

Sure they want to prevent piracy. However, the most important thing as a company is to keep your customers happy. Yes you want to grow your customer base and you want to stop pirates, but making your existing customers angry is extremely stupid.
Ok, so maybe you'll have less people playing that didn't pay (doubtful), but you're also going to end up with less copies sold. A pirate does no actual harm to your profits. Losing your customers does. This is the same error the record industry made with DRM, and there's a reason why they no longer use it. These schemes will never stop piracy, they will only result in lower sales.

Anyways someone who pirates a MP game on the PC and continues to play it as more than a demo/woot I got a game before street date, would never have bought the game in the first place. The Xbox 360 is the best place to be a pirate. You can actually easily play official MP with a pirated copy.

uhh yes the way to prevent them stealing your game is to provide better value for money than the other MOB

no hardened edition was a kick in the balls

sure you should get merits off your hard work but they rarely provide us a media to experience it before we play so people pirate and then they go well im already here and surprise the games work online(listen servers dont stop that IW could have easily deactivated all the CD keys suspected of piracy)

plus now there charging an EXCESS for the right to be treated like thieves

OF:DR has listen servers and from all reports the pirate copies work on that like a charm

yeah the 360 is an easy place to pirate just common people havent figured out how to do it or dont trust the shonky guy who wants to flash there firmware

those pirates on the PC version of COD (forgive me if im wrong im not up on the piracy rates of it and its late) they cant play on PB servers i believe and if thats the case its kinda stupid cos my mate is part of a 100 member Pirate WoW server so its not anti pirate either its just people prefer the stronger community sumthing matchmaking strips out of the game

i suspect that the comments and tags on amazon.com will have more of an effect. If they don't change their mind then i'd fully expect this game it get 1 star rated on launch as well.

While internet petitions probably don't have much reach, making a product look bad on amazon has the potential to have a much bigger impact on their bottom line. (if they care about the pc bottom line that is).

Honestly, who gives a shit, all I care about is the gameplay. Big fucking deal if there are no dedicated servers, I still get to play the game.

Dedicated servers have nothing to do with gameplay in the least. You are getting 'shortchanged' or 'ripped off' because they aren't in there. It is simply a choice of interface and how you get into a game.

As for the comparison with the L4D petition? I think you're missing one fact: They are both retarded. You don't buy a game, you buy a license to play a game, which in fact, means that whatever the maker decides to let you do with it is all you get.

@alinos
So exactly how much "Free" stuff you need. Exactly what "Free" stuff you need to provide to someone who can get your game for free. I have heard all the stupid arguments and none of them hold any water. The reason why is that if you value whatever reason you feel that justify stealing someone’s hard work, then why don't you walk into a gamestop and take it from the shelf. The reason people pirate games is because they can and their isn't any way to persecute you for it.

Loyalty goes both ways. Why should a developer feel like they must go beyond giving you a great product just to get you to purchase their product? I cannot count how many times people have stated they will pirate a game because the developer didn't provide this or that feature. The PC market has shown there is no loyalty it's only greed. Everyone seems to look for a reason to pirate a game instead of not buying the product.

If everyone on the PC decided to not buy MW2 and also not pirate the game, you would see a change in IW so quick you would think GOD had struck them with lighting. Instead, what you will see is the game pirated more than MW1 which would show IW/Activision that they were right about the PC market which would lead them to not care even more.

As for pirating on the 360, many people do know how to do it, its the fact that it's not as easy or simple as the PC method that prevent people from doing it. The same would be for the Wii. It's extremely easy to pirate from the Wii but since people have to go through some steps they do not bother. Actually what you see for the 360 and Wii is that if the means is not easy people will not resort to pirating.

IW will lose customer on the PC but they will also keep a lot. Only the Hardcore really cares about Dedicated Servers and lets be honest, they are very small demographics compared to the overall COD user base which continues to grow. COD doesn't even target the hardcore that much and I am sure this is something that IW/Activision has figured out. Also, I do not believe this will be the only Pirating solution. The next thing that’s probably going to come out is that you are required to be online in order to play COD.

You really need to think about what is happening here in the grand scheme. Anyone who enjoys the previous game and plays it online within the clan communites or the modding communities is not pirating the game. You simply cant play a pirated copy on legit servers. Single player sure. But for repeated playability you basically need a real copy. So it comes back to this: why should I or ANYONE fork over 60-70 dollars for a game that DOESNT suit our online needs now.

As a whole, activision/infinity ward didn't understand the significance of the piracy in the first MW. I know of many people who've pirated the game... then wished they bought it for the multiplayer component. Those same people vowed to properly buy the next game just so they could play multiplayer on any server they so wished and with any mods (LOL hide and seek mod). Now that's been dashed to the rocks because of the removal of a dedicated server system. A friend of mine was insanely pumped to be able to rent a server with his mates... only to have his hype hopelessly destroyed. The removal of a dedicated server system has in a whole, INCREASED piracy by not giving anyone reason not to just download, play SP and uninstall. I doubt that IW/Activision care as to what we think (because their wallets are so big they can ignore us)... their responses to this have been far from satisfactory, all they do is butter up their articles to sound like they're thinking of the PC gamer. But truth be told, they've already started down the path of lies and slander.. so i doubt they'll stop now. I also agree with the statement that they'll blame piracy as the source of poor sale it's so much easier to blame piracy then their own poor decisions.

Also.. try not to be too hard on kotik, don't shoot the messenger. He may have been the one who released the information but he's not completely (if at all) to blame. I suspect (this is my conspiracy theory, so don't quote me) that they've been developing the IW.net system for a while without completely realizing the implications of the online communities responses (probably because they think we'll lick it up like the consolers) and now that they've given a significant investment in it, they don't wanna admit they just wasted it all. So it really isn't all his fault.. give the poor man a break, his reputation's already been tarnished enough as it is.

Either way, I was gonna buy the game, but have now decided that my money would be better spent on borderlands or BFBC2.... there's no point buying a 5 hour single player game, and having a multiplayer system which is broken on release, ESPECIALLY at a premium retail price... I think that IW/Activision should've told the masses earlier about their decision, it was a plain disregard to the PC gamer to leave it secret for so long. IW/Activision in the strictest sense don't owe us anything, but in a looser sense they do. They've hyped the game to a point where it's been one of the most anticipated games of the year and even said that it was going to be exactly the same as the previous one (obviously talking about the PC version), then it turns out they lied to us the whole time. They brought up our expectations and hyped it, only to destroy one of the foundations that made it great, (clans and online communities).

Also.. consolers who don't even have a clue how anything works shouldn't post. Unless you have your flame suit on don't go spouting crap which you don't know anything about. console users should not going on heightening our fury... stop defending them because it truthfully doesn't concern you.

With MW2 coming out in a few hours, I figured it would be a good idea to start a forum regarding PC gamers views of the game. This is entirely because most of the PC gamer nation is refusing to buy the game due to the IWNET introduction. Tell us if its a POS or something actually worth playing. Some of us are reluctant to buy the game without dedicated server support but if IW is right and IWNET is a good thing we would all like to know.

I'm not gonna talk about anything like dedicated servers or piracy but I will say this.

I've just bought the game and I've yet to see what the multiplayer is like, or if clan gaming will be possible or practical.

But I bought the game...

I'm sure loads of other unsure PC gamers bought the game too. THIS IS !! the sequel to one of the best FPS games in a while so why not buy it.

So I bought the game...

HOWEVER...

I've still to play it, check out multiplayer and either make a clan up or join one. But if the game turns out to be a let down, laggy or generally impractical for clan play guess what ?!

I will not be buying the next in the series, I will not buy DLC and will definetly avoid any future game from them. So from this people may shift to other games and forget about the cod franchise or maybe even any game from Activision or IW in the genre.

It's a crappy comparison but look at windows.. Windows Vista was generally crap and alot of people (gamers especially) avoided it like the plague. Now Windows 7 is out will you be getting it ? or will you be hesitant ? I won't unless every gamer I knew stood up and said look Windows 7 IS better than xp.

Bottom line if they botch up MW2 for the PC, think of all the customers in future who will not give there future games a second glance.

Would it not work for Activision to allow for Steam to host dedicated servers instead of allowing anyone the ability to do so? That would benefit Steam, the gamers and would make Activision that little bit more popular than they are now.

Steam would have to throw some more money into investing in more servers though, they seem to be struggling under the weight already.
