Sakaguchi: unannounced Mistwalker project in 'finishing stage'

In the latest blog post, Sakaguchi said, "I am working hard on a new project. Now we are being rushed into the 'finishing' stage. No matter what, I will make it really good...." And judging by the tiny surfing Sakaguchi analog seen above, it appears that as the work picks up on this project, the Lego complexity drops. He's really busy.
And we still don't know what he's busy on! The last Blue Dragon game came out on October 8, so this is something else entirely. We should find out soon ... since it's almost finished, we guess.

A JRPG that resolves around battling giant aquatic monsters while surfing killer waves? That would be awesome...
Shagittarius @ Oct 19th 2009 4:09PM
You look like Jar-jar Binks.

Really, because my picture shows me as Balrog... Does that mean my picture keeps switching between both?
Johnathan @ Oct 19th 2009 4:16PM
I didn't know the Balrog was an Italian plumber

mine changes between the default, a pic of samus taking her helmet off to reveal its actually weegee, and dead space girl. i with it just stuck with the weegee.
Schmim @ Oct 19th 2009 6:09PM
@innuendo:
your weegee avatar is one of the best ones ive seen around, but sadly its just a mario right now..

The funny part is, it would look exactly the same >.>

Please don't be Blue Dragon...
acefondu @ Oct 19th 2009 4:22PM
I was so hyped about Mistwalker back when they first formed. Seemed like a dream to see former Square members team up to make some fresh new RPG's. So far, it's been a let down...
atrimus @ Oct 19th 2009 4:36PM
i guess that depends. i haven't played Blue Dragon, but Lost Odyssey was hardly a letdown. not necessarily groundbreaking, or even amongst the absolute best JRPGs, but still an adequate game.
well, nevermind. i guess for the "creator of FF" to deliver just an adequate JRPG IS somewhat of a letdown. something about Lost Odyssey (that i can't quite put my finger on) just prompted me to prematurely argue against your point.
acefondu @ Oct 19th 2009 4:46PM
Well, the letdown I mostly refer to is they never brought ASH over here in America......It's a personal letdown since I don't own a 360. I hope to play Lost Odyssey one day if they ever port it to the PS3.
Zerokku @ Oct 19th 2009 5:10PM
No chance of getting a port. Microsoft owns the IP. Microsoft helped mistwalker get funding so they're essentially second party for the time being. They have a contract for so many games on the 360 first.
acefondu @ Oct 19th 2009 5:41PM
Yeah I figured that was the case. Perhaps a PC port someday then. =)
Sadistic Freek @ Oct 19th 2009 6:06PM
Blue Dragon was okay... didn't finish it. But I have to say that I really enjoyed Lost Odyssey. I think mostly the stories from the dream sequences are what grabbed me.
atrimus @ Oct 19th 2009 4:31PM
it's Lego Cry-On! the cancellation was a ruse!
Zsavior @ Oct 19th 2009 4:40PM
Is that supposed to be surfing Jesus? I don't know just taking a guess.
Richard @ Oct 19th 2009 4:45PM
I'm surprised that didn't hear anything from them at the Tokyo game show if it really is close to the finishing stage. Did they (Mistwalker) not have a presence at the show?
Mr Khan @ Oct 19th 2009 5:04PM
Most likely something for 360, though there is a possibility for more DS stuff, and a dim possibility of a Wii project (there was a bit of a stir, quite a while ago, about Wii dev kits spotted in their studios, which were hastily photoshopped out)
MRLN (The Comment God) @ Oct 19th 2009 5:39PM
Surfing RPGs. I like it.
Not to mention that spiky hair is actually EXPECTED in that situation.
Nobledevil @ Oct 19th 2009 5:46PM
As long as it's something that actually holds my interest this time around, bring it. Blue Dragon is entirely out of my taste range and Lost Odyssey lost its appeal for me within 20 hours (when I took what was supposed to be a short break for Eternal Sonata and never went back).
I have tons of respect for Sakaguchi based on his older work, so I remain hopeful that I will like his next project.
swindle2915 @ Oct 19th 2009 6:09PM
im right near the end of lost odyssey now. pbut don't know if to go for pretty much 100 percent complete or just beat the game.
Tuxy79 @ Oct 20th 2009 8:43AM
Myst Walker titles are the only JRPGs I really enjoyed on 360. Why didn't they annouce something at TGS?
