APB enters closed beta, virtual crime rates spike
Almost three weeks after Realtime Worlds CEO Gary Dale teased us with the chance to go hands-on with APB, the developer's marketing head, John Davies, has confirmed to VG247 that the first wave of closed beta invites for the pseudo-MMO have been sent out. We realize this news will either find you unsurprised (i.e., you already received an invite) or disheartened (i.e., you didn't), but we thought we'd pass it along regardless, as crushing your spirits is one of our very favorite pastimes.
Aww, don't cry. Now you're just bringing us down. Hey, you can still apply to join the APBeta on the game's official site. Who knows, you might just get accepted instantaneously. There might be an invite in your inbox right this second! Just ... just buck up, okay?

No invite for me :( was looking forward to kicking ass while avoiding any ghastly monthly charges, ah well.
I hope the first wave of "unofficial" reviews and showing good things, I so want this game to be great.

I got accepted. I don't know why, considering I signed up late. Hope every else on Joystiq who wanted to get in does. It's tons o' fun :D.
Good luck guys.
(Oh, and the download is a bitch. My max download speed was 100kb/s... and I usually DL at 3.0 mbs) :(

Is it just me or does Joystiq feel a lot more condescending than yesterday?
Dave @ Oct 20th 2009 5:39PM
If a blogger is condescending, or, if his neck flaps open up, it means he finds you threatening. You should be flattered.

Oh this game looks interesting...
Can you be a cop?

You can only play it on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays between 7pm - 11pm. In other words it's kinda lame.

That's BST time. If you're on the East Coast, that's 2-6PM. Which is OK.... could be better.

They did that with the mag beta, it's to get everyone on at the same time to test the servers and to adjust the gameplay mechanics for problems that don't come up with a small number of players.

Well, there are those of us who didn't sign up... It's a beta, not a demo.

Ergh. I signed up when it first popped up and I got nothing. I feel so rejected. I might just cut myself... And then soon it will be you who gets cut, Realtime Worlds CEO Gary Dale.

AGH. This is the first time I've had a problem with the comment system. :(
