THQ's Darksiders has shifted its North American release date from New Year's Day to Tuesday, January 5, 2010. The game will ride into Europe and Asia on January 7 and 8, respectively.
In preparation for the launch on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Darksiders has revealed a new website. Expect to hear more about the game after the Modern Warfare 2 fallout dissipates a little. We also feel the need to remind you of the key words Darksiders usually evokes: God of War; Legend of Zelda; Evil Horsies.

Hey, c'mon. The horsie isn't evil. Unless I've missed the gameplay where he kicks babies in the forehead.
Even then, I'd have to hear his side of the story.

What's with all of the horse hate? I think that a few hours with a cup of chamomile tea and a copy of Petz Horsez might change your minds.

What, there's only room for one FPS or one hack n' slash per console? I'm sure this will take a back seat to GoW3 by merit of brand recognition alone, but to suggest that similar games can't survive alongside one another is akin to denying the last 30 years of the industry ever occurred.

I was wondering more because of the release dates than anything else...2 months after GoW collection + GoW3 demo, then 2 months before Gow3....of course similar can coexist but it will be harder for Darksiders being sandwiched between all that God of War goodness....e.g, Operation Flashpoint would have probably sold better if it wasn't released so close to Modern Warfare 2

Ah, well if you want to look at release dates, it's worse than you think. As the GoW collection hits shelves in Nov '09 and GoW3 has a March '10 window for release (last I checked), Darksiders is left with (arguably) a 6-8 week window of relatively minimal Kratos competition for people who've blown through the collection and are champing at the bit for GoW3. That's pretty much an ideal release date for an unproven franchise in the same genre.
However, Bayonetta has a January release competing directly alongside Darksiders, and Dante's Inferno is aiming for February, so it's a complete crapshoot to say which hack n' slash/shoot title is going to capture the hearts and dollars of gamers. Smart money is on GoW3, being an established franchise, but it's also a console exclusive which limits potential sales compared to the other three cross-platform titles. Of course, if you expand beyond that specific genre things become even more crowded and conflicting, which once against brings up the argument for the industry to work harder at staggering title release dates so that it isn't always feast or famine.
So you're right, it won't be a great time for Darksiders to hit the shelves, but if the game is quality it should have a fair shake over the long term.

played the demo at Comic Con. wasn't too bad, from what i can remember. i might give it a try if i'm done with Demon's Souls and possibly Dragon Age by then. otherwise i might have too much on my hands with the impending releases of Mass Effect 2 and MAG

So you're saying it looks generic? cause I agree.
Although, it doesn't look any more or less generic than Bayonetta.

I've got a couple for you, too:
Madden NBA Hockey '92
Forza Turismo
Tales of Final Breath Odyssey Remnant Ocean Hearts
That last one kind of sucked, but this 'games are similar' crap is getting old. If everyone thought of movies, games, music like you do there'd be about 10 titles available to buy. Look up 'genre' in the dictionary.

Ah, you misunderstand. I'm still renting this game, because I enjoy swinging sharpened mini-vans. I'll also rent Bayonetta, because I like hot chicks with magical leg rocket tonfas.
I just like making fun of them, too.

Hopefully Joe Madureira will finish up Battle Chasers after this. I'm not holding my breath though.

All's been quiet about this game until now. The videos I've seen of it in action make it look generic and repetitive rather than fun and engaging. Sure those videos were of early builds but even in early stages the game looks like a boring hack n slash. I'm a huge fan of Joe Madureira's work I just hope that his contribution in this game doesn't go wasted on something that's just mediocre. Right now the game looks more like a rental than a keeper. I hope I'm wrong.....
